WWLA is in March, SDCC is this summer. But ...

Yes, I'm tentatively planning on being at Wizard World Los Angeles Thursday morning. DCD will have a booth, correct? Since I can't stay long, I may bring a picket/sign and demonstrate at their booth until I'm escorted out of the building.

Are you going to WWLA? Wanna wear a "One More Wave" t-shirt?

If we haven't heard anything by SDCC, I'm bringing 'em. :)

I hate to say it but you'll be dissapointed...

No DCD, they have never done the WW tour and not even DST are going to be at WWLA this time around.

I'm not surprised though, I did the show last year and was done in about 25 minutes... it probably took me longer to find a parking space that I was at the show for!

T-Shirts for SDCC though sounds like a fun idea :)

Thanks for that Tim. You just saved me from bothering with WWLA at all.

I'd suggest something other than "One More Wave" though. While catchy, I think that the sentiment here is that we'd like DC 'mates to continue, otherwise we're right back where we started; just one more wave wouldn't pacify most of us. I don't know, "Reinstate the Mates" or something with a little more longevity. Not a criticism, just a thought ;)

DC direct did Wizard world chicago last year....they gave away two packs from the power-girl series

But this is no time for snarkiness! We must act!

I just really got hardcore into the little guys, and now they may be on their way out....that's so lame.

If anyone is dumb enough to show up to Wizard World Chicago, they're gettin an earful (after I get whatever freebie they have, or course).

Okay, I'm open to suggestions. I liked One More Wave because of its tongue-in-cheek humor – I thought the reference to Spidey's "devil's bargain" was funny, but maybe I'm reading too far into it. Plus, we're always going to want "one more wave," no matter how many they give us.

Honestly, if there's any chance the line is going to continue, I don't think it would only be for a single wave. Obviously, Georg isn't going to say, "well, the line's an unprofitable flop, but since you asked nicely, we'll sink another 20 grand into it." If the dollars and support are there, (and "keep DC Minimates going" comes up on whatever executive dartboard or magic 8-ball he uses to make business decisions) he'll keep it going. This whole campaign is just a way to make some noise to let him know there's an adamant following here.

That said, I haven't printed t-shirts or hired the skywriter yet, so we can change the name if you all feel strongly about it. I never intended this to be my campaign, I intended it to be our campaign. :)

Like most others, I'm also shocked by the idea that DC 'Mates might be done.

Personally, I thought Wave 8 was very strong. Hitting Red Son, Question/Batwoman pairing, Titans, and Sinestro made for a lot of characters that I want. Even a relatively "weak" wave like 7 still had characters that I wanted.

Here's hoping that this isn't it and we get many more waves down the line.

This really blows. Im not a huge DC fan, but I was hoping for a Watchmen wave or set <_<

Watchmen Minimates would be awesome!

Put all the Watchmen in a 4-pack! B)

That would be a perfect tie-in to the movie. Of couse, I think they'd be better served as an entire 8-figure series. They've already hinted that they have plans to make Watchmen figures for the movie in the 6" scale.

Toyfare interview, in issue #128, they mention Watchmen and other properties alongside the Anniversary line.

Who's being irrational? DC Direct needs us way more than we need them right now. Mattel being on the scene really puts a cramp into DCD's style so to speak.

Calling names? Brewer and Co have a history of screwing fans over and not completing lines. Anything he/they is/are being called is well deserved IMO.

Honestly, the only thing that'll make an impact on DC Direct is a boycott of their lines - ALL their lines. Barring that, Brewer and Co will think they were justified in cancelling 'mates because collectors continue to buy SuperBat stuff.

I agree with a DC and DC Direct boycott. My DC purchases will be on hold while I "weigh my options."

Good call, guys. I will be boycotting DC Direct too, until I hear that DC minimates a definitely continuing. I think I'll also cut back on DC comics, just to be safe. Maybe just Batman and Green Lantern.

On second thought, I think I'll only be getting the books that feature characters that are already in minimate form. I don't want to get too attached to the other characters and not get a minimate of them. That would just be devastating.

I'm expressing my support for the best line DC Direct has produced! I buy every set every time out and wait for more releases! The choices are endless, with DC's library of characters!

Please continue the line! You have a fan for life!

  • 2 weeks later...

The DC line has been great but unfortunately, the things that we love about them are what is hurting the line at the end of the day. It has become too expensive for DCD to keep producing these things in the small quantity that they have to make them to sell only through direct market retailers, ie comic and toy specialty stores / websites. The great new sculpts, paint apps, accessories and (most expensively) the 2.5 inch figures in each assortment all add to the high cost of developing and producing the figures. DST has a formula that works with the Marvel license. They use existing molds and paint apps to keep production costs down, while still managing to produce new characters and exclusives as well. The fact that the DC line is $2 to $3 more expensive than Marvel two packs should tell us a lot. As far as always including Batman and Superman repaints or variations... they HAVE to do that to appeal to moms / dads and kids who also buy their stuff.

I don't know what the answer is and I hope they find a way to continue the line. If it does, I wouldn't be surprised to see fewer accessories and no more 2.5" figures. Maybe they could do build-a-figure assortments with a piece of a larger figure included in each two-pack. That would be great!

Fingers crossed for DC minimates...time will tell.

What sucks is we got an Ambush Bug...AMBUSH BUG??? DUDE!!!

What about Black Canary? Two-Face? Scarecrow? Hell a Lois and Clark 2 pack...It isnt fair DC Direct to cock tease us with a great line and then "Oh we arent doing it anymore"...that isnt at all cool.

agreed, characters like Ambush Bug and Ma Hunkel are what make the line unique and not just another DCD Superman/Batman lovefest. The only other "toyline" out there with the variety of minimates is heroclix, which don't move and can have some pretty bad sculpts sometimes.

I'll take minimates any day.
