dj87
oh wow have you painted parts, and managed to keep them looking translucent? love the expression as well, he means business Edited January 16, 2012 by dj87
jcastick
Thanks boyd, i'm a huge fan of the translucent figures as well! Although it is difficult coming up with customs that are translucent and finding the clear mates to do it with. And dj87, I used a Bic brand permanent marker on the body. It sometimes leaves streaks but it appears to depend on the figure cause it didn't do it on this one as much. And the face is basicaly a drawn on Battle Damaged Superman.....with a bit of mouth smudge that just wasn't working right. Lol thanks for the comments! jcastick
Decided today would be a custom makin' day, so I bring a trifecta of customs to present First off, I realized I no longer have a Ghost Rider of any kind, I had the parts and figured I might as well make myself one. Next are some customs that I had ideas for a while back but didn't have all the parts. They go along with my Sheriff Steven Rogers, they are Red Skull Bandit and the Leader of the Red Skull Bandits, John "Red Spade" Smith. Red Skull Bandit John "Red Spade" Smith I tried to paint on the face of the Red Skull from the Captain America movie line....but made it a tad bigger than I wanted. The black lines though still kind of work as wrinkles and such, so I'm ok with it. Anyway, feedback is always welcome, would love to hear your thoughts! Nervous Rex
Hey JCap, I really like these, I like the whole idea, are they based from any comic or your idea? either way I would like to see more characters from this universe. on a side note, sweet firestorm!, I have started one a few times, and ended up scrapping them both times. I just cant get him right, lol
jcastick
Thanks Nervous! The idea came from the Alternate Reality contest we had here a while back. My entry was Sheriff Steven Rogers and in his story, his arch villains were the Red Skull Bandits. After making these two customs, I've been trying to think of additional characters for this reality. I'm thinking I may go Avengers since I have an idea for Tony Stark. As for Firestorm, honestly the hardest part was his helmet.....getting the flame to sit on the helmet properly and the paint job. jcastick
Finished this one the other day and finally got to take a few photos of it. Here is Venom, in a much better size. As always, feedback is welcomed!
Bob Harris
Very cool. Haven't seen one of the big blokes in quite a while.
TM2 Dinobot
I've got a Venom that size, and I don't actually like it that much. However, yours is much better than mine.
jcastick
Thanks guys, I wanted one like that for a while but ran out of 3" mates. I think I may rework the face a bit though, seems a little squished.
boyd
Really like the 3" Venom. Very clean, crisp graphics.
jcastick
Thanks boyd! Was my second attempt at using some decals.....they aren't the best labels, but they do work for my purposes for now!
Jeff
Awesome work! Wish they'd do figures in proper scale like you did since we're probably never got to see any BAM (build a minimate) figures or any other MAX style Sentinels or Galactus. On that note, was thinking of picking up an old Toy Biz Sentinel in place of the $100+ Minimate one.
jcastick
Thanks Jeff! I have a few 2.5" LOTR mates I'm probably going to turn into some larger scale figures, not sure which ones yet. IF you can find one, I'd say go with the Marvel Legends BAF Sentinel.....works Great with mates!
jcastick
Just throwing this one up here real quick. Came up with Stark Tech Armored Thor Kinda like the idea of Stark coming up with armor for all the Avengers.
cylonchaney
Thanks guys, I wanted one like that for a while but ran out of 3" mates. I think I may rework the face a bit though, seems a little squished. I think yours is the best Venom face I've seen including official releases, actually. I would not change it one bit. jcastick
I didn't think I was going to get finished but the idea came to me, went with it and got it done! I present I.C.A.R.U.S. Really wish I had a backstory for this character, but I can say that he is a genetically altered soldier given the ability of flight with his razor sharp metal-alloy wings. He also has a pair of enhanced goggles that allow him to view every light spectrum and have the ability to see objects as far as 10 miles. The neatest feature on this custom is his Glow-in-the-dark goggles, well in my opinion anyway.
jcastick
Surprised myself by getting these done. So I present, the entire reason we have characters to read and love, collect and customize....I give you: Stan Lee and Jack Kirby!! Stan Jack They are mostly quick customs, little bit of paint and one decal (which I'm still getting used to making.....) but they have been customs I've wanted to make for a while now and this seemed to be the perfect reason.....the best Dynamic Duo of them all! Also finished another custom I've had in my bin for quite a long time. Bat Sentry It's just some painted Hammer Drone pieces, Slightly modified Frodo cape and some Batman parts. As always, feedback is welcome!!
Jeff
Awesome! Gives me an idea to make a prowlar from spider-man.
