DST broke the news today of the mystery video game license Zach has been hinting at: Sonic The Hedgehog!

http://www.diamondselecttoys.com/2018/02/sonic-merchandise-speeding-to-stores-from-diamond-select-toys/

"The first products will be on display at the International Toy Fair in New York City, with a focus on the core Sonic characters — the speedy hedgehog Sonic, the energetic Amy, Tails the two-tailed flying fox, Knuckles the powerful Echidna, Shadow the anti-hero hedgehog, Metal Sonic the evil robot hedgehog, and the mustachioed mastermind Dr. Eggman. Product categories include Gallery PVC dioramas, Minimates block figures, Vinimates vinyl figures and PVC mini-figures with collect-and-connect racetracks."

Between this and Kingdom Hearts, DST is really trying to hit my top gaming franchises.

Interesting. This will depend entirely on how the figures look. Could translate well to Minimates, but could be odd. Likewise, if they stray away from traditional looks, it could be an issue. But classic versions? Yeah could be awesome.

This is outside my area of interest but I hope it helps spread the Gospel of Minimates.

I would have preferred Mega Man, but I could definitely see myself getting some of the more major characters. Hopefully these will look good and sell well.

If Zach was having a hard time with Kingdom Hearts fans, though...

I don't see any tigers though.

A comment about how DST "said they're not a video game company" and one about a missed opportunity for bottle openers, and I'll have Bingo!

If DST uses arm pieces for legs and sculpted heads I think they’ll be quiet good.

Deepest sympathies to Zach for now having to deal with weirdo Sonic fans.

Wow I've wanted this for a while. Very colorful cast of characters and variants can be done here.

I agree that using the arm pieces will work, since Sonic characters have big hands and feet. I'm looking forward to seeing the accessories, I'm sure they'll be some type of ring pieces. But yeah this a really cool announcement.

I am definitely in for any classic characters from the original up until around Sonic Adventure on the Game Cube. :)

Do any of these characters ride motorcycles?

I would pick up a basic Sonic but that's about it (unless there are some crazy accessories that I'm unable to think of at the moment).

Hopefully this will bring even more Minimates fans into the fold though.

Has that happened with any other lines? I don't recall seeing people make comments like that very often.

The only Kingdom Hearts Minimates I'm interested in are from Tron. What's that, two figures? Not sure if that qualifies.

Sonic should be a good license for DST. Bright, colorful characters translate very well into Minimates, much better than the drab video game figures we usually get.

This could be a super fun licence. So many bright, colourful characters. I had Sonic & S2 on my Sega Master System II as a kid. I might have to grab one or two figs from this line.

I'm pretty into KH and Sonic. These are major hits for me. Kind of can't believe it.

Okay, so...

Clearly this line is not focusing on the old school Genesis games. My only real exposure to this property is Sonic 1, 2, 3, and Sonic & Knuckles, so I’m a little out of my wheelhouse here.

This lineup is ‘Series 1 Box Set’. So, we can tentatively expect more characters in the theoretical second series. We’re already getting 3 versions of Sonic in this first series. Any speculation on what character selections might go from here?

as long as I get Knuckles to go along with Sonic, Tails, and Robotnic, I’ll be a happy camper

I'm so hyped about this. They look great. I was worried about some form of "shell" over the torso to add bulk, but nay. I feel that harmed some of the TMNT's posing.

Sonic seems a little tall, but Tails and Dr Robotnik look perfect!

I think Sonic will look a little less 'lanky' when posed in a crouched/running stance.
Can't wait to see Knuckles and Shadow.

These definitely translate better then the Spongebob ones did, except for cream, those legs do not work at all, short legs should have been used, hopefully they have Shadow and Knuckles for maybe a tru or gamestop exclusive, like others were saying on the facebook page it would suck for this first series to not sell well enough for a second series and miss out on those two, can't see dst doing cream and a slightly different sonic without two of the main characters planned at least
