They had the perfect opportunity to hit the reset button and start everything anew but cherry-picking Singer decided against it.

And they want him to direct the next FF flick?

Will DST even be able to make minimates for this movie?

It won't be encouraged by Marvel but they probably won't stop DST if they really want to.

DST will probably ride the hype train and put out more of the same characters. I'm curious what DST thought of DoFP mates now that it's been a while. Did we ever hear anything about how they did?

I think there is a 50/50 logic with the Xmen movie mates:

Pros - movies have done well and DST may have the only toy product out for the Xmen movie (like DOFP)

Cons - Marvel very not supportive of the film, Fox can dictate what was released (Rogue in DOFP), heavy character repetition could equal poor sales

Given how the DOFP 4-pack lingered, I'm hoping they're regretting not offering a set that complemented the movie lineup.

The problem is that we (the community) bitch and moan about not getting enough/any comic book stuff when a movie hits the theatres... and yet when they DO make a Comic set that ties into the comic a film is based on, there is a backlash.

I'm not having a go at you specifically - i've heard this a few times not.

The DOFP box Mystuque set goes Marvelously with the new Brotherhood villains. I'm glad we got it as the old Mystique was in need of an update.

Do i wish we got a more fully rounded cast of figures for the movie DOFP? Absolutely. And i'm very much hoping we get one here as well.

Luckily - there appears to be enough villains to do a 'vs' type wave. alternatively, a 'Horesman' box-set would have enough big names to carry itself, with room left in the wave for the heroes, main villain and possibly a supporting character or two.

I... TOO... have thoughts...

Apocalypse - does not look right. Period. He looks like something out of a Beastmaster sequel or an episode of Stargate.

Comic accurate costumes - paired against the presence of the black leather that will STILL be used, these look RIDICULOUS. Go all in or gtfo

The franchise as a whole - Fox's X-Men movies feel like 90s cartoon versions of the X-Men, whereas Marvel's films feel like true adaptations of their characters. I would LOVE to see what Marvel could do with, say, a Second Coming storyline. Whenever they get the rights, treat it like the mutants WERE a burgeoning species but that it all suddenly halted and now your movie is the story of the first new mutant birth since the age of Marvels began. You could have a group of villainous mutants who want a messiah, a group of villainous humans who want a tribute, and the X-Men, who are acting as superheroes for the first time having trained at the Xavier School the entire time the MCU has existed. Just one take...

And Nessex, for MY money, I'd MUCH rather a comic accurate Apocalypse-themed boxset than anything tied to THIS stinker:

Cyclop-alypse (with interchangeable parts to make 90s Cyke for those who missed him)

Wolverine as Death

Caliban

Stryfe

In defense of the backlash, it wasn't a great comic set. Mystique goes with a wave that wasn't announced until months later, and even though she's a decent minimate she's certainly less impressive than the rest of the Brotherhood. They didn't make new parts to really represent Wolverine correctly so he comes across as a lazy attempt to fill a spot. Sentinels seems to do okay despite the size problems but how many sets are army builders actually going to buy with the cost that high? Kitty is a good minimate but not much of a draw herself. The extra parts for Senator Kelly are probably the coolest part of the set. Comic fans are hungry for more minimates but it doesn't mean we'll just buy anything with a comic logo on it.

Sure am excited for the movie, but with Jean as my favorite comic character, i'm gonna steal a move from the John Oliver Playbook: #NotMyJeanGrey. It's like they Googled "young actress redhead," skipped past the porn results, and picked the first girl they saw. Sansa is definitely not "Jean." Scott's pretty on-point, however.

Karen Gillan was born to play Jean Grey.

Yes, I would be interested to see a storyline with Apocalypse ending in a dance-off. biggrin.png

I have never cared for the design choices in these films, and have bristled at some of the reimaginings of characters in terms of personality/behavior. But that's not very different from what Marvel Studios have done IMO, with characters like Tony Stark, Hawkeye, Nick Fury, Quicksilver, Falcon, etc. Sometimes it's an improvement in my eyes, sometimes it isn't. But on balance, I like what both studios are doing, and appreciate that due to its being at Fox, X-Men can get a lot more dedicated attention than would be the case if they were competing with 10 other franchises for a release at Marvel Studios.

There's so many new characters & characters we haven't gotten a movie version, I'd actually like a second wave or supplemental boxset.

If only limited to one wave I'd prefer DST focus on the new and skip Xavier, Raven/Mystique, Wolverine (if he's in it), etc.

Give me: Nightcrawler, Quicksilver, Jubilee, Scott, Jean (the X3 figure is horrible), Angel, Psylocke and Ivanpocalypse.

Singer's horrible taste strikes again. Why do they keep letting him make these damn movies? Since there's no way in hell Fox is EVER going to give up the rights to this IP, I can only hope that Apocalypse concludes this series and we get a hard reboot in a few years with a director that has some actual vision and chops.

Oh yeah, please don't make any mates for this movie. Do Not Want.

Agreed but DOFP was an example of how half-assed things can be. Do one or the other, don't short-change both. Personally I'd have preferred more movies characters, too. Hell, as well as Sentinels sell, a 4-pack of those probably would have sold better than the one they offered.

And while hindsight is 20/20, we knew well in advance that there were going to be a lot of new characters in DOFP. However DST seems to have learned its lesson. I'm much happier with the Age of Ultron assortments. Two full waves, an army dump, and a complementary 5-pack? Sure, they're not perfect but it's much better than DOFP.

Yeah! I buy anything with a Marvel logo on it, I just prefer comic stuff to movie stuff! *Shakes fist*

I was happy to get that set though, Mystique was at the top of my list for characters in need of a re-do for years. I was so pleased to get her I didn't even really care or notice that the other three sucked. I can see it now, when I look back in hindsight objectively... but truthfully, my reaction to the set was, "OH THANK GOD FINALLY NEW MYSTIQUE! WOOHOO!"
