Where to find display's...

Recommended Posts

Sorry, not really sure where to put this topic, so I apologize if its in the wrong section.

But I was looking for those clear tiered displays for posed minimates that are like the ones seen in cases at Con's, like these:

Is there some sort of online store or specialty shop that sells them? Or do I have to assume they are custom made stands (and if so, I guess where could you find supplies? lol)

Thank you in advance. Its hard to display so many minimates with only a horizontal plane to work with.

If not, is there some other sort of stands that work? Like Lego Sets?

The displays in the con picture are made from acrylic, which is easily found at most art stores like Blick and Utrecht. They supposedly aren't that hard to make, I have a friend who knows how to and he is going to show me at some point. But I do have a back up to use, in case of it being unsuccessful.

I haven't used them yet, but I'm willing to give them a try.

Here are the pages most pertinent:

Here are some of the ones I was looking at:

I like those lego cases, but it's hard to fit taller minimates into the small spaces. I've also had good luck with these cases from The Container Store:

You can fit quite a few minimates on the three tiers, and the cases are stackable.

Those displays are amazing!

Is that... Audrey II I see?!

Amazing? I wouldn’t say amazing... amazingly easy to make maybe!

Seriously everyone YOU CAN MAKE THEM AT HOME!

-Measure your shelf and figure out how much space each layer will need (my risers are 10 inches tall 30 inches wide, made up for five shelves 1.5 inches wide with a 2inch gap between the shelves)

-take these measurements to your local plastic supplier and order the raw pieces you’ll need (I bought ten 30x1.5 1/16thick sheets for the shelves, although next time I would probably go 1/8 or even a 1/4 since it’s showing a slight bow under the weight of bigger pieces, and six 12x7.5 1/2thick sheets for the supports)

-Once you get home take out your dremel and cut the supports into stairs WEAR A MASK AND GLASSES! (OR ask them to do it for you, but know they’ll be charging you out the noise for labor, it would have cost THREE TIMES as much if I had them do the cutting for me... also know if they cut them for you a man with a fashion doll Frankenstein for his avatar is manlier then you.)

-make like the avengers and ASSEMBLE! you can glue if you want, I didn’t but I live on the edge. I went with two base supports and one middle support, if your shelf is longer (or you’re worried about the bowing my shelf shows) I’d go two middle supports or more.

-line your mate ups on the shelves!

SEE! SOOOO SUPER SIMPLE! Mine only cost $55, and when you think of how much a spice riser cost at Target or how many display cases you’d need to buy for ALL your mates that’s not bad at all.

and yes, it is indeed Audrey II (shooop dee doo!)

Is Audrey a horrorclix piece?

He’s (she’s? it’s?) actually a diorama piece from a Yamato Poison Ivy figure. This one here actually: http://www.flickr.com/photos/splittyhead/5620436156/
