Wave 1 and 2 have the mane 6 sparkly

Is that on purpose?

Eyup.

Been buying tons of the MLP Blind Bags at work lately; employee discount and buy-one-get-one deals. Unfortunately, i haven't found a Rarity, my favorite, but i really like Rose Luck, Sweetcream Scoops, and i managed to get a sparkly textured Pinkie Pie.

These things are so much fun. :whistling:

Oh the Bishoujo and Figmas thing I get, it's part of that odd Japanese borderline child porn fascination. Still creepy, but sort of understand it. (or at least "used to it" after all these years)

Just don't get the whole "Bronie" thing. Like at all. Could be an age thing, at 40 it's happening more and more that I just don't "get" a lot of the current pop culture and I'm increasingly comfortable with that. Or it could be I have healthy testosterone levels. Or both.

In addition to the minimate stuff, I want the Bruticus and Masters of Evil sets... but haven't talked myself into that much a Monday morning spending spree.

I don't get the Bronie thing either. A friend of mine, who basically hates everything, used to live with three Bronies and he told me that he was terrified that if I ever watched that show that I would become one instantly. One of the ultra-hardcore terrifying ones that never shuts up about it. I had no idea what that meant, but as it is more often than not, I took this as a personal challenge and watched all of season 1 straight through one day. Is the show good? Yeah probably. Is it my favorite show ever of all time? God no. Do I even actively watch it? Nope. But I know stuff about it. I'm not going to tell anyone they shouldn't like it because they're over 10 years old and dudes, but I do not see how the show appeals to that audience. And I might be too old and cynical too (thought Miry's got me by a decade) who knows? It's just one of those things I do not understand, and probably never will. Oh well.

If all MLP stuff was like

, I'd totally be hooked. As it is, I'm waiting until I find them on DVD to watch with my daughter (just for some binding time). Whether she wants to or not.

I'll just throw out also that every year I think about how I could pull off a trip to SDCC, only to be glad I didn't when the time comes. I've been reading onthe Funko boards how some things have been selling out as soon as the doors open at the Funko booth. Most of the people attending only got stuff when a mostly-Funko on-line store was selling stuff for cost plus free shipping yesterday. I'm not sure what the appeal is to standing in lines around thousands of people when it's almost cheaper in the long run to buy stuff you want on-line. But, that's just me and I'm thankful for the people that do go and always offer some help.

The first season is streaming on Netflix. Just sayin'

I've always wanted to go to SDCC once in my life just to say that I've been there, but the older I get and the more things life heaves on me, the more I come to terms with the fact that I'll just probably never get there. Now C2E2 on the other hand...thumbsup.gif

I still need the variant pink Twilight Sparkle. And my cards for Lucky Swirl and Firecracker Burst got all jacked up in the package. I require replacements. Isn't Roseluck one of the prettiest ponies you've ever seen? Her colors are just amazing. And I figure if Doctor Whooves is Dr Who, then Starscreem Scoops and Bumblebee Sweet can be Starscream and Bumblebee as ponies, right?

These may help. Well, the first one. The second one is just funny.

Uh, maybe we need to move the last page and a half to our own thread...

Yeah, "brony" is a pretty off-putting term to me, like most fanboy group terminology -- I mean I'm not making YouTube shipper videos or getting my girlfriend to dress up as a pony or anything. I do think it's a funny show though, so I bought a couple toys, as I do with most stuff I like.

Unfortunately, i haven't found a Rarity,

That seems fitting at least.

Yeah, every year I tell myself I'm not coming back, and every subsequent year I end up plunging into the sweaty, screaming masses again. But it's definitely lost a lot of the novelty and fun factor for me over the years, and this go around has been particularly draining.

Actually, I think the only reason I'm really thinking about going again next year is so I can cap it off at a nice round 10 years in a row. Then again, I may scrap it and go to Chicago next year. I hear that's where the real party's at. :D

Responding to people who need specific blind bags: You know you can cheat right? Every blind bag has a number discreetly printed on it... one need only look up the number key on the internet, figure out what number the pony or ponies they need are, and go looking at bags for that particular number. Just throwing it out there incase anyone wasn't aware.

As to Bronies and an understanding about them... or lack there of...

Here's my thing... my story if you will...

I saw the internet meme. I didn't quite get it at first, in fact I said those exact words to my best friend, "I don't get it." ... BUT ... being curious as to what all the fuss was about, and secure in my masculinity and unafraid of girly stuff (I've watched Jem before too... just because I was curious. And played the hell out of The Spice Girls game on the PS1, lol) I went and downloaded the first season and watched it, knowing nothing about it beyond the meme. And it won me over. Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy particularly... those two are just... awesome hilarious cartoon characters, lol...

I've always hesitated (down right refrained) to call myself a brony, even though by definition I suppose I am, as I'm a male, in my 20s. I just don't particularly care for the term. I'm a fan of cartoons. I heard alot of praise for this particular cartoon... watched it... and enjoyed it. That's it. That's the long and short of it. And yes, I have bought a small amount of toys and apparel since then... partly yes, to buy into the novelty of it, lol... but partly because I do that for EVERY cartoon I like. I buy toys and clothes for ninja turtles, marvel, power rangers, mortal kombat, and blah blah blah everything else I enjoy too... this particular one just stands out to people, being from "the pink aisle"

The fact that My Little Pony is classically a girl's property is of little consequence to me (though it does amuse me when my Fluttershy hoodie befuddles others, I admit. I'm a big guy, with a beard, in a black hoodie, with a pony saying "Yay!" and it does make me laugh when people don't get it... lol...)

I've always been perfectly fine dabbling in the pink aisle, frankly. I'm gonna call myself a girly toy hipster. I was never drawn to ponies specifically before the new series caught on, but I've bought dolls I thought were cool. I have a little sister, I'm exposed to these things, lol. I have a full set of Spice Girls. I've baked in an easy bake oven. I could tell you the names of all Barbie's closest friends. I've played Mall Madness, Mystery Date & Dream Phone more times than I can count.

I'm not a Brony, I'm just a guy who won't be told I can't watch funny cartoons just because they're for girls, and play with cool toys just because they come in a pink box. :P

And I say that all in the manliest, most heterosexual way possible... with no agendas toward feminism or gender-equality or any of that mumbo jumbo... just the idea that, "I know what I like... and I like this."

I've never been. My wife tells me I should go one year, and the family could go so they can go to Seaworld or something while I do the con. But really, the only real draw would be potentially meeting boardies from here and SSF. I don't care about dealing with sweaty, geeky crowds or getting to see crap I can watch online without having to pay all the money and take all the time and effort to do in person.

SDCC is one of those things that anyone with geeky comic/toy interests should do at least once... Rob will verify that no matter how prepared you are for it you will be overwhelmed the first time you step onto the show floor.

I went 6 years straight when I lived in SD and enjoyed some yrs more than others, I also feel that I saw it morph during that time from a fun geeky playground to the sold out lunatic asylum it seems to have been the last couple of yrs.

T.

p.s. I'm also hearing that the Chicago con is 'the place to be' next yr too!

Ooh, SFvT. That's a cool poster. Haven't seen it before. And the colors on that 3rd one look... unfinished.

Gilbob, Hasbro got wise after a while and changed the ordering number on the bags. Now they're all mixed up. Currently the best way to tell is to stick an ear through the air hole in the bag.

Your story is essentially mine. I'm an animation fan. The first man to draw two lines and put them together had me in mind. I love animation in any form, and I love great stories. MLP has both. It won me over, so I bought toys, and shirts, and anything else that wasn't remotely designed directly for girls.

Seriously, we should just split the pony talk into it's own thread. :P
