I hope to see Pumyra above anyone else. I'd also like to see Lynxo and Bengali. Not sure who the 4th normal sized character could be though?

Maybe Claudus or a villain like one of the rats? I'd like to see another Berbil, maybe Snarfer too.

Thanks for the update Zach! So excited for this!! I am thinking it will be Pumyra, Bengali, Lynxo, Rataro and (from what Zach said) another Berbil. I suggest Berbil Belle. A berbil would be appropriate for this set too, as the berbils are the ones who rescued the new Thundercats. I still think Snarfer could be a good choice too though. I'm just so happy that this line will continue a bit longer, and it really is surpassing expectations in all ways! The Silverhawks and Tigersharks really need to happen.... Just make them convention exclusives. 2 or 3 boxsets of each would do it... I know I'm dreaming, but I never thought we'd get the Thundercats in such a complete and amazing way, so the floodgates have opened!

Once again, the vagueries of licensing elude me. Mattel will award the MOTU license to Funko for all manner of plushes, bobble heads, and straight-out vinyl figures – apparently not "toys," but... "novelty collectibles" I suppose? – but when it comes to a 2" block figure that would in no way compete with their core toyline, it's unthinkable.

The Funko guys must have some damn impressive powers of persuasion...

Or some incrimating photos of someone high up at Mattel. Probably something that happened at at Christmas party back in the 80's.

Also, I would call minimates a novelty collectable more so than a toy.

Mattel should stick to Barbie dolls and die cast cars.

For some reason they can't seem to put out a consistent action figure line to save their business. Anything right that happened with DCUC I credit to The Four Horsemen. That line was successful despite being at Mattel, not because of it. The proof is wherever you see a line that's developed in-house. Their 3 3/4" lines have all been disappointments, from Batman and Superman to Green Lantern and Avatar. And just when you think they're starting to learn a valuable lesson, they jump back in time 40 years to offer for $6 what we can get out of a Happy Meal for free.

And it's not like Mattel is huge into the block figure category. Yeah, Minimates are action figures but it's a niche market, at mass or at specialty. They'd have absolutely nothing to lose by licensing MOTU to DST for MInimates and anything else outside of the ridiculously over-priced action figures they're selling online and at conventions. I really don't see Minimates doing anything but strengthening the MOTU brand.

I'm no fan of He-Man, but with any luck, a movie studio will insist on controlling merchandising rights to anything based on the film and then DST will have a shot at offering MOTU product. Until then, maybe there's another license DST could go after – like keychains – that would allow for an assortment of Minimate-ish merchandise.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. If DST sublicenses from Mattel it needs to be Monster High not MotU, it goes with Universal Monsters, it does better at retail, and the characters would translate to block form better. (and if we’re talking mini-MotU, when the hell is Mattel going to release the Mini-Masters, f**k the $250 castle or a filmation sub, let me pre-pay for the whole line or sub-in and I’ll buy two of every mini-master, dammit!)

On topic:
So I finally opened all 3 Thundercats sets... which weapons go to which Mutant? I know Jackalman gets the club and Monkian gets the shield and fail... who gets the mace and who gets the blaster?

Jackalman gets the blaster and Vultureman gets the Mace.

Those are some pretty sweet looking MOTU legos customs. Makes the sting even worse that we'll probably never see them in minimate form. sad.png

Yeah the legos are alright, but I know DST would make these look amazing.

This is a slam dunk for Mattel to sub-contract this licsense to DST.

Also what was/ is greater in the Pantheon of 80's cartoons: Thundercats or MOTU?

MOTU, Transformers and GI Joe are Top Tier

  • 2 weeks later...

So do we think we are going to have to wait until SDCC for the 4th box set and pics of the 5th, or do we think something will be coming out sooner? I'd love to see some production shots of the fourth set and maybe control art for the 5th, as well as learning how these are going to be available, be it convention exclusives like the first 2 or online exclusive like the third.

Zach, you've made me an incredibly happy (and geeky) Thundercats fan! Will we be seeing design drawings or pictures of the actual figures? Also, is there ANY way in a million years that we could see Silverhawks mini mates?
