  1. I only managed to see the movie once in theaters (tragic I know) but was Winter Soldier's outfit really so brown/light in color? I could swear it was more of a black/dark blue, with the exception of the jacket he briefly wore. Either way, picked up Cap/WS and Falcon/Widow, no problems, no complaints. They look far better in person than they did in protos.
  2. I like them for what they are. I wish the figures fit in the cars a little better (they kinda sit smack in the middle of the entire cockpit rather than on the drivers side, and can't reach for the wheel) but I understand it may have been out of their control. The mates themselves are good for 2006 era ones, with them being recognizable (though Speed cries for a better hairpiece now), but Racer X being the nicer, more detailed of the two. Still, probably the only Speed merch you can score easily right now outside of the Hot Wheels movie line from a few years ago.
  3. Aw, man. That would've been cool! Thanks for the quick reply. I know it's an incredibly niche franchise especially now but I can't help but eat up any decent merch for it. Wish we would've gotten these other two.
  4. Were there ever other Speed Racer cars/figures planned, or was this strictly a one and done for Minimates with just Speed and the Mach 5 and Racer X and the Shooting Star? I've been messing around with them on my desk the last few days (unfortunately my Speed's pants have...yellowed, which looks...very...embarassing for the poor guy) and thought it would've been neat if we had gotten Captain Terror, Kaballah, the GRX, etc as well. I've been on a nostalgia kick for the franchise since I watched a few episodes of the old 'toon with my daughter.
  5. Remember that Magneto recipie I posted? Won't work. Tried it with the "Dark" Magneto style helmet and it won't fit. Shame, it would've been pretty cool.
  6. That was the weird part to me, it's the one from the old TRU boxed set! It's not one of the translucent versions. If it were one of the clear ones I would've kinda expected it, I'm still kinda catching up to me just how /old/ some of my collection really is. I knew some types of plastic also yellowed but being that these things have been kept almost exclusively in a container in the dark usually, it was just a surprise. I'll probably just get a newer one. Still, sentimental value, one of my earliest ones y'know.
  7. I was going through some of my older 'mates and stumbled upon her. I noticed something very unusual, she's...um, yellowing. Like a lot. On one of the legs and one of the arms where the white details are. I don't know if this is due to heat (I doubt it), I seriously doubt it would be any sort of nicotine stains as I've been out of an environment where people smoked inside the home since 2008 (and it wasn't yellowed then), is there a way to clean this up? I think it may even be due to being in the same container as some other yellow Minimates parts (like the Shooting Star, and I think there were some stray Lego jet engines in there). What do?
  8. Quick and easy Marvel NOW Magneto recipe (no pictures yet as mine is as of now incomplete): MvC3 Wesker body (everything including the coat obviously) Magneto head (I use the TRU one that came with Wolverine, I'm sure there's better ones, any stern looking one will do) X-Men First Class Magneto helmet Dark Magneto alt head (the shadow obscured one) Boom, done, not 100% accurate to the comic but surprisingly very close to it. ...so um, if anyone has a spare First Class helmet laying around lemme know.
  9. Oh geez. The guy's character was a huge part of my childhood (The Real Ghostbusters was probably the catalyst for my geekdom growing up, the later Extreme revival only further kindled it), I had no idea he'd been ill. May have to pop in the DVD this week and do a re-read of the ongoing IDW comics. I trust that he's at peace and I wish his family the best.
  10. Oh wow, props. You read my mind man, I was literally thinking last night how I had a near-complete HYDRA collection, except for Sin. I know they made her as Skadi, but that...doesn't really count because that story was goofy anyway. Haha. You made good use of the head there, I consistently forget that she isn't a freckled redhead anymore and is a good deal more...uh, grotesque. I usually forget about her human form now a days since Marvel pushed her Red Skull look a lot during Fear Itself. So I made the best of both worlds, with her fathers face and a human body. Yep! Looks pretty awesome. (Nevermind my opinion on Fear Itsself, the reasons I didn't like it are based on my shameless fanboying for a certain character. Besides, the "death" was hardly permenant...again. That never seems to work on him, huh? I did like the idea of Asgardian forged weapons for all of the heroes, though. And Matt Fraction later became one of my favorite writers because of his work on Hawkeye.)
  11. He might not have. I bought it loose (but with accessories) so it's possible I either ended up with one from the purchase or just had one to spare lying around, so I definitely display him on one. oh man, I remember that thing would never stay stuck on James Franco's frickin' foot. I think it was just a flaw with the one I had, because it worked okay enough for other figures.
  12. Heh, you triggered an odd memory. One of the first Goblin 'mates I had was Hobgoblin, and he had no glider to speak of. I was pretty chill back in '06 and just built him a really rad oversized one ala the old Spidey cartoon toyline out of Lego, and rolled with it. Now I've got gliders seemingly in surplus (I have Thunderbolts Norman, a newer GG, and uh, well tbh I have no idea where the other one came from...Menace maybe? I remember getting rid of Menace pretty quickly just because of how turrbl the story she comes from is, so, seems plausible)
  13. Oh wow, props. You read my mind man, I was literally thinking last night how I had a near-complete HYDRA collection, except for Sin. 14. Man. I moved from Little Rock to San Antonio. And I'm about to move into an apartment with my fiancee and baby this weekend. That's a pretty wacky coincidence, either way, welcome home!
  15. Semi-funny story: I had pre-ordered the WS/Falcon set from this wave at my LCS. Gave them a call on Saturday to see whether or not it had come in. They checked and confirmed yeah, it's in. I'm thinking, alright sweet. I'll get both WS figures and generally be a happy dude. I was wondering if they had gotten in the rest of the wave or just what I had requested, so I checked the shelves when I got there, a few older waves were up, a bit too expensive, but to be expected. So I check at the desk, pick up my order, and the clerk tells me my grand total and I notice there's more than just one set there. I sort of ask "uhh...wha?" and he's like "Oh, yeah. We ordered the whole set for you and picked the duplicates out of it." and I'm like "...alright, cool." It was more than I was looking to do at the time, but hey, it worked out I guess.
  16. Yeah, probably would never happen. But, stranger things have occurred.
  17. Just an idle thought, but why not some new music themed figures? I just thought of how cool it would be to have a Kavinsky themed set (if you don't know who this is, he's the guy who did the opening song from "Drive", yep, that guy, check his stuff out) with his Dead Cruiser character and a red Testarossa vehicle for him to drive in. (All of his music revolves around the Dead Cruiser, a guy who died with his girlfriend in a car accident in a Ferrari Testarossa, and now spends eternity undead and driving at high speeds, kinda like Ghost Rider or The Wraith, the few music videos he has based on the subject are pretty slick) I mean sure, why stop there. You could do Daft Punk, The Misfits, etc. Just off the top of my head.
  18. Since I don't have a blog at this moment in time, and I do read a ton of comics, I figured, eh, what the heck. Someone might be bored enough to read my opinions, rambly and incoherent as they can be. They'll be short and sweet. Let's start with what I read yesterday (was kind of a slow new comic book day), and my namesake: Winter Soldier: The Bitter March (auth. Rick Remender) Well, I wasn't sure what to expect. Remender sure did turn Captain America completely upside down, the story has become polarizing. You either love it or you hate it. I enjoyed the "Dimension Z" arc at the time but lost interest midway through. I will catch back up eventually, but once I heard he was going to be doing a Winter Soldier miniseries, I was hopeful. The guy seems to have a decent enough handle on certain characters, and he seems to know what he's doing with a black ops/spy narrative. Thus far in issue #1, we're back in the past just before the Cold War. Fury and Ran Shen are taking down HYDRA, because that's what SHIELD does. Things are going south quickly, and they only get worse when they run into a man thought to be a myth, the Soviet super soldier known as The Winter Soldier. He doesn't really show up until the last few pages, but when he does it makes a huge impression on the reader. I was fearing this book would feel forced due to the movie coming out soon, and I was a little cringey when I saw they were sort of using his movie look (with the facemask and goggles), but in context (they were in freezing conditions), it made sense for him to be wearing that. He takes it off later and the character design looks great! No one seems to act out of character, the writing keeps a consistent tone, and overall, I had fun with it. I'd recommend it. I could practically hear a dramatic crescendo in my head on the very last page. Chills. Check it out.
  19. Happy birthday errybody! Hope you get lots of your favorite stuff today.
  20. That's the one! It certainly looks a little more...uh, blue, on film. Seems a little on the light side from that picture, but that could be due to lighting or just the prototype colors, who knows. Either way, it looks cool. I wouldn't mind if it went to production in those colors to differentiate it from the Fury Jr./Commander Rogers mate's costume.
