Did you really have to introduce the word member into this thread?

It’s my understanding that the rigid plastic used on action figure bodies is ABS. The more flexible plastic used on arms, legs, and heads is PVC.

If this Maximate is only made of one rigid material, I’m wondering how the ball joints fit into the sockets.

Not sure what material was used for this but as CylonChaney says it's probably ABS or PLA.

I've done some regular sized minimate joint printing with PLA and it's pretty flexible, definitely flexible enough to 'pop' arms or head sockets onto ball joints that hold with friction. Also if it were an issue you could actually just print the ball joint inside the socket as you're not limited as you would be using some sort of mold.

Maybe we should have a giveaway for a Bomber-Mate. Maybe in December. Maybe. Anyone have any interest in that?

Pretty sure I no longer have the AI files I used to make the decals & labels first time around (and I'm the worst kind of data hoarder who generally keeps backups of everything!).
Probably just better to let it be part of our wierd history and let it go, I'm also guessing anyone who wasn't around back then wouldn't be excited or interested by it anyway.

Thank you, sir!  I have a furnace repairman here now.  Good times!  hahaha!

Great to see all the familiar names checking in!!!

Is Tim still around?  Obviously his Bomber-Mate is the highlight of my collection.

Yeah still here more or less - I don't post much these days though.
My collecting is at best sporadic these days, we don't seem to get as much of the lines I'm interested anymore and Marvel the line has been around long enough that I pick and choose what I pick up due to repeats etc. My desk is still scattered with random or QC minimates but the excitement is just not there anymore for me.

The Bomber-Mate reference gave me the warm fuzzies though, it really does seems like a lifetime ago now!

p.s. Good to see the A(n)dycarter bot still checks in occasionally too!

I don't wanna make a thread for this, so I'll just ask here. Is there a comic batroc minimate? I could have sworn I've seen one, but I can't find it in the database...maybe it was a custom?

    This one?

    Yeah it's a custom.

I'm going on vacation next month & I've decided to binge on the Walking Dead compendiums .

I love the show but I'm not sure whether to stuff one or all three tomes into my hand luggage.........shall I just take Volume One or do you think that I'll get through all three ?

I want to enjoy my read so it won't be some pointless "Ooh I read all three books in three weeks ....look at me" marathon type of thing I just want to know whether it would be a mistake to carry all three..........I travel light .

You should be aware that I intend to do sweet FA on my vacation apart from eat drink swim & be merry . There'll be plenty of time for me to read & I read quickly but with comics I generally 'read' first then go back & enjoy the artwork .

    Let me know please.

I usually burn through comic books pretty quickly and if you're looking to fill 3 weeks reading they I'm guessing you could get through all 3 in that time without rushing them. Having said that, you might want to take one volume and something else to read so you don't get tired of reading the same thing.

Each one is about 50 regular comic sized issues, if that helps you figure it out how fast you'll get through them.

oh and 3 week vacation... who gets to do that anymore, you lucky bastard!

    From Ask DST #363:

Rob P. We just got a pretty great looking trailer for Star Trek: Discovery! Though if I’m honest the Klingon look still isn’t working for me. But, now that we have new characters, uniforms, props and ships, the question remains: Does Star Trek: Discovery fall under your current Trek license? Fingers crossed. Hoping for a yes! Thanks!

DSTChuck: Sorry, no, we do not have rights to
Discovery, but we have recently renewed our contact and expanded our rights.

So that's a no on Discovery product but Chuck continues to insist the rights have expanded. To the last three films? To a larger market? Seriously, what's the big secret?:Dunno:

The expanded license is going to be that they can now make...  wait for it... Vinimates of the original series crew!!! :devil::timbo:

If I were to be lured back into this I'd have to start quoting Timbo's posts & then I'd dissect Zach's posts .......then Timbo would probably & eloquently tell me that I was wrong whilst Zach ....let me see ...well Zach would probably say that he didn't understand what I was saying...whatever I was saying

Do it... You know you want to... You definitely qualify as one of the collectors who has to have 'everything', so would be interested to hear your thoughts.
I think that as long as we all play fairly nice & don't take it personally then it's a interesting conversation to have & I'm assuming part of the reason you started the thread?

Has anyone quit the hobby over these yet?

It's a shame we don't still have the AA boards around as the conversations were probably pretty close to the one we're having now, but with more shouting (see Miry's PTSD for proof). We must have all gotten old & mellowed or something. One or two folks were pretty salty there for a while over the whole thing back then though.

And geez, T, we're not going to start down the "true" this or "true" that road, are we? What are we, Transformer or Star Trek fans? I get the point you're making, but gud gawd almighty, that word in any fan context brings back unpleasant memories of things that descended into board splitting unreadability when a "true" thing is defined.

HOW DARE YOU...... Oh wait... you're just suffering from PTSD from the 'good old days' aren't you? :timbo:
Yeah, feel free to ignore the word 'true' is if brings back any nasty memories Miry.

That wasn't my intention, Mostly the point is 'If you want something you can usually get it, it really just depends on how far you are willing to go to have something special. And if nothing was special we'd all have exactly the same stuff and no one would have any reason to talk to one another or be collectors.

That forum would sound like this:
Hey Newbie welcome, My collections exactly the same as yours, I was talking to BHM and he has exactly all the same stuff too but keeps it all in Marmite so the badgers don't run off with it. (Those British people are weird!).

I wasn't griping about the distribution on this, just of some exclusives like TRU and WGs

To an extent I agree with you as Wallgreens seem especially hit and miss with what goes where, but perhaps the TRU/WG threads would be a better place to share those concerns?
In here you're just confusing and diluting your message.

I'm not a completest or have any particular interest in these figures I was just talking in broad strokes about this sort of situation occurring with other things I love and general frustrations in the collector community  (if it be toys, crystal figurines or pop records) and thought it was worth pointing out.

So basically you're complaining about life, we all have things we see that are limited in quantity, too expensive or owned by someone else that we want and they are out of easy reach. Most things are obtainable, It's a case of how bad do you want them & how much effort you're willing to go to or what you are going to sacrifice to get the thing you're coveting.

I'd actually go as far as to say that being a true collector isn't about the easy stuff, cos there's no challenge in that & a collector should relish when they are chasing something special/hard to find.  If everything was easy we'd all just be guys with lots of identical stuff and frankly that sounds boring as fuck.

  11. I picked these up at TRU today (PDX folks, Jantzen beach had 2 full sets on the shelves when I left)

They are great but I really don't see the logic of them selling at $7.50 a pack in TRU and the 4 pack at specialty is $25.
You can go to TRU and get 6 characters for less that the price of the 4 figure specialty boxset, where of the 4 figures are the same.

One is a non-licensed, personal item. It was a private gift. Broad distribution can not be expected. One is a variant of a character who will be released later. It was meant to promote the line with retailers, who we are trying to bring on board this still-new line.

Hopefully, the few fans who consider these indispensable are willing to pay secondary market prices or bide their time.

I was joking when I was giving Zach crap on this earlier, Honestly I'm no longer a completest, and really don't want/need a minimate of a guy who owns a distribution company.

I have one question for all of those that are griping about the lack of distibution on this one... How many of you can claim to be completists, and by that I mean you have at least one of EVERY produced minimate that was ever made? I ask because those guys are the only one's who should feel aggrieved and even then honestly you should see it as a challenge not a chore, as Zach says there's the secondary market as we know being a completest is not a cheap undertaking.

DST did not give any away. It was not a DST party, it was a Geppi Family party, incorporating all of his businesses, including DST. The Geppi family gave them away. And the management at Diamond gave them to their employees as a part of the 35th anniversary celebration. We just helped them get made.

While I get the interest in it as a curiosity and rarity, I do not understand the importance being placed on it as a Minimate, or the belief that it should be more widely available.

Happy 35th Anniversary Mr Geppi, I genuinely hope your employees are content enough that they don't use these toys with your likeness for awkward or unsavoury things then take pictures and post them all over the internet!

The draw of the set as i see it Zach, was the surprise factor and relative rarity, we're a curious bunch and the completists are even curiouser, I think it's safe to say though that It's unlikely that we're all going to be clamouring for a vinimate of this guy to be made & have full distibution.

  14. Sad to see another collector get to the point where they're giving up and moving on.
It's pretty much where I am at and have been for a while, so totally understand, but don't be a total stranger, feel free to stop by just to say "hey Wassup?" sometimes even if it's jsut to poke Fun at BHM or something! ;)

Yes, there is a non-pulled-back masked head, BUT we packed it in with the non-pulled-back-masked-head Spider-Man/Shocker 2-pack available now at comics shops and Toys"R"Us stores. Sold separately! :D

So in Summary, no. ;) - but if we are playing the you can get them elsewhere game... My local comic book stores don't stock minimates any longer due to  people only buying the stuff that's not at TRU leaving them with shelves full of stuff that doesn't sell, my TRU is better at stocking minimates these days but still is very hit or miss on what it gets.

I get this is a limited exclusive (& It's a cute idea in that's also a nod to wave 4) I Just feel like it seems an odd choice when you're at the biggest geekshow on earth where you need something special to wow people and you give them a spidey pack that claims 'extra' parts but it cant be a displayed as a regular spidey.

Not trying to be a debbie downer but as folks say, I feel this is a swing and a missed opportunity.

  17. I just picked up my First Vinimate, due to a quirk of an online order and a free shipping limit.
I picked up the alien warrior and was v.surprised at the heft/solidity of the thing. I like it a lot more than I thought I would.

Given the right licenses...(cough* Marvel*cough) I would def  pick more of these up.

  18. I just found these in Portland, OR, at the wallgreens next to my local supermarket.
They had a lonely Thor/Thanos pack kicking around for months & in the last week or so it disappeared, so I've been checking in pretty often since then to see if they restocked.

Given how picked over this area is I was surprised to find a full wave 3 just hanging there.
Picked up the Spidey Noir (surprised to find I really like this mini) and Squirrel Girl sets and left the other two packs on the shelf.
