  1. I'm pretty much here regardless. There are few X-Men sets that I would pass on.
  2. Nope. I also didn't see Ewing raise his hand and launch the Ultimate Universe or turn the Avengers into a best seller. Again, don't get me wrong I'm not here to stan for Bendis because quite frankly I was happy with how the Avengers were before they got disassembled but the fact is when you earn millions of dollars for a company versus earning thousands you are clearly going to get a much larger runway to do whatever you want to. To translate it to TV, look at Ryan Murphy's career. He did great work for three seasons on FX with Nip/Tuck and then the gloves came off. He launched Glee, it made a ton of people a ton of money and now FOX let's him do whatever he wants on two different networks. It's business. Until Ewing or someone else can start to show a return on investment (significant buzz), make them money through increased sales, or just gets an editor that say eff it this book is dead anyway just do whatever you want, they aren't going to get that level of opportunity because they don't work for themselves. Look at Claremont himself. If anyone should have earned the trust of Marvel to do whatever it should have been him. He said "I'm going to just kill Wolverine for a months and then resurrect him as a Hand assassin next year and then..." Marvel response "Imma gonna stop you right there and say not in my house". And one of the most successful writers in comics walks. It's a business. This is the same with all of the companies. You've clearly given this a lot of thought but, to what end. Again. It's not for me so I just scroll by and treat it like it's a Kardashian. As for the writers and why you don't like them again that is preference. From an industry stand point you are talking about a list of writers that collectively have sold millions of books between them over their collective careers and have amassed several trophies. I AM NOT SAYING THAT INDICATES MY DEFINITION OF TALENT (i.e. Billboard music awards) just that saying they aren't A List is a wee bit short sighted. There are TONS of other creators that I personally love that aren't considered A List like Sean McKeever and Jay Faerber others that are Brian K Vaughan or a Gail Simone. Vote with your wallet. Including the merchandise associated with it. My point being why spend the energy trashing them instead of focusing on what makes a good figure or should be made into a figure because even if you aren't buying the books in trashing them you are inadvertently promoting them by giving them press or social media impressions which gives the impression that this is good because fans are passionate.
  3. Mark Waid, Greg Pak, Daniel Slott, Jim Starlin, G. Willow Wilson... Yeah, I'm not seeing that argument. You can say you don't like stuff but you can't really say they don't have a talent roster. I get not liking Bendis' work or not liking his characters but I don't think he's running amok at Marvel when he is only writing a few books. I can see why he gets opportunities since he took a chance and made a subuniverse relevant and managed to have the longest running comic run out of it. His douche bag version of Tony helped inspire the movie and that helped launch the largest successful franchise in years. I'm personally not enjoying his current work outside of Miles but that's preference. Also, what's so wrong with Miss America? I'm not a Miss America fan but the most thought I give it is when I scroll over it in the comics apps. If it's not for you, it's just not for you. Same way you feel about those books people feel that you read/like for example the New 52 was complete garbage to me. Nothing was worth reading in that relaunch to me so I just slowly dropped out of those titles. Even Rebirth is hit or miss to me. People just like what they like and as long as they get minimates of characters that they like and I get minimates that I like, I'm good.
  4. My money is on: one unmade character, one unmade costume, and two redos. Classic Brotherhood of Evil Mutants: Magneto & Quicksilver or 60's Beast (two redos) and 60's Jean (unmade costume); and the Toad (new character). Either way I'm pretty convinced it has to go with this story:
  5. Ok these overlapping clues are maddening! Way to go Zach. 1. Ironheart (Avenger, Legacy, Female) 2. Hydra Cap (Avenger, Villain Leaning) 3. BEM Rogue (Avenger, X-Men Costume, Female) 4. Fandral (Cosmic Asgardarian) 5. Morlun (Spider-verser never made, Villain) 6. Korvac (Cosmic, Villain) Ahh I give up.
  6. To me, waves add in a certain nostalgia and frames the narrative for collectors and shockingly kids that play with their figures. I think part of the challenge of X-Men V Avengers comparisons is their publication history. You are comparing one of the largest franchises of the 80's until arguably 2004 to the Avengers that are just now really getting their moment in the sun (and partially by adding in X-Men characters into the stable) in addition to the movies. Back in my day, Beast was the only crossover X-Man. Now we have Storm, Wolverine, Rogue, Deadpool, Havok, Cable, Firestar, Namor, Cannonball, Sunspot, yadda yadda carrying the banner. I think a storyline like Avengers Forever is a great way of getting out the mixture of characters in a way that is themed since that story featured every Avenger that ever lived in every costume as long as you tied in a few of the core 7 that carried it like Captain Marvel Jr.
  7. I agree with this but on principle it would be nice to have a set (maybe a 4 pack) of army builders (Hydra Agent/SHIELD AGENT/Ninja/AIM) that was like a best of or greatest hits wave.
  8. Hey Zach thanks for responding. You are clearly more privy to other discussion and data that I am not. However, I do see social sentiment and you are correct there isn't always a direct correlation between sales and impressions but I have seen brands change course for less given the totality of the sentiment. You can separate the issue of the Cap story line from the diversity issue but it does add fuel to the overarching issue and Marvel's problematic PR situation. It could also be that at the moment the zeitgeist is talking a lot about diversity and the sentiment is directing that conversation. Again, sentiment doesn't equal sales or lack there of because this is assuming that the people that are complaining are even customers to begin with. Great to see you guys are holding the line and willing to create the figure.
  9. It's an interesting position to have that it is the worst thing to happen to comics but I'm more of the spectator boom of the 90's being the worst thing that happened to comics.
  10. It's not just nucomers. I'm a very much wait and see the end of the story before judging it as either good or bad but it will be interesting to see how this is handled.
  11. No, I mean it's in the mainstream news/podcasts and actually driving conversations about Comics and race. Here are some press clippings. http://time.com/4347224/captain-america-hydra-agent-marvel-tom-brevoort/ http://www.vox.com/culture/2017/4/4/15169572/marvel-diversity-outrage-gabriel http://nerdist.com/marvel-diversity-comics-david-gabriel-wrong/ https://www.theguardian.com/books/2017/apr/03/marvel-executive-says-emphasis-on-diversity-may-have-alienated-readers And this isn't even bringing up the current X-Men fiasco. Just because something is talked about doesn't mean it's good.
  12. I'm with you on this. Speculation has led to rampant disappointment for me. However, given the clap back Hydra Cap has been getting in the news I doubt we will see him until the end of the story if ever.
  13. This is where I struggle... I want to support DST with this but I live in a small NYC apartment. For those of you in Middle America, my entire apartment would make a nice closet for you which means space is a premium which is why I love minimates and have for 15 years. I was planing on cherry picking vinimates like getting a Dr. Manhattan, or the big robot while hoping for a Galactus, Watcher, Giant-Man, etc. but that was it. These DC ones have me in a pickle. I naively think that if there is enough of a demand for these that maybe that can reboot the minimate franchise (or at least get me a CW minimate franchise) which is why I have been buying the Gotham ones even though I can't stand that show. Hearing they are monthly is going to be a monthly struggle of figuring out what to do.
  14. Say what now? What's the bad news?
  15. You didn't get it right. You are asking about two different things. Joe Hill's customs? Yeah, they look great which is why I am asking for the recipes in his thread. Those are different then the officially released Palz. I wasn't a fan of the line. I own a few but I had issues specifically due to their hands, the size of the figures, the weird breast plate. What I did like was the number of accessories that came with them, the hair pieces, character selection, build-a-figure, and that you could get a "change of clothes" in them. Even though it was innovative with how they did things it wasn't a profitable business plan. The company declared bankruptcy and shut down which is a debacle. Clear?
  16. Resurrecting this thread. Did you ever post recipes for these? I'm seriously missing my Buffy these days and these look great.
  17. Last week was the celebration of 20 years of Buffy which made me really nostalgic for that show. I think they'd make great mates but I remember the Palisade debacles. Is there a chance of Diamond ever getting their hands on the license and doing it right?
  18. I would believe it is a suggestion or off the books type of memo since Fox could theoretically sue Marvel for damages if this was true,
