  1. Great post Lobsterman. All is true, there will be ups and down (like any relationship and product line), people whining because they're not happy, frustrated(like me ) and such. I think some get too wound up when someone displays their frustration and vice versa. I only do so for information purposes(hey somehow they've got to know) and usually will only do it once or it's a parade. I'd like to think some of us like to make comments funny and sarcastic. I know DST Chuck & Matt are big boys and won't lose sleep over some evil bastards I've known for years that the presence of Mass Market Retail is necessary for continuing the brand and making it worthwhile. There needs to be more minimate fans. I think it's all great in what DST Chuck and Matt do. You'll find it hard to find a company that interacts with fans and do what they do. I appreciate they've continued the brand and I support them(in all their licenses.) edited
  2. Thanks for the refresher. I think I was a bit young when these came out or didn't care. I remember them though. Nice job of DST getting the license and hope it works out for them. Kinda looking forward to the parts too and the possible playsets. hmmm I wonder if they'll place a battle badge on the mates, sort of feels like they need to be there to know if they're wood, fire, water, etc.
  3. Here's hoping(crossing finggers) that they show up again. but I won't hold my breath. One thing's for sure, I'm not wasting any more gas and buying diet pepsi lol (well maybe not until the next exclusive Snipe Hunt Minimate) To tell you the truth no other 2-pack has frustrated me more, got to live with it.
  4. Thanks Ivan for filling us in and giving us the Day 1 report. Yeah he likes knowing we're running around like idiots at TRU stores for that moonstone/bullseye pack. I agree with everyone that was bs and I do understand the business decision. Everybody makes mistakes. It still doesn't make me any less pissed off. I know they produce more mass market and it's not even close to comic shop numbers, but dang these cannot be found anywhere. The exclusivity makes you go to a TRU so you can waste more money but it sucks for some of us that only get minimates now(because of the recession) Let's see, for several weeks I've gone to 7 TRUs (most far) wasting gas and struck out on this wave. I've spent more $$ on gas and diet pepsi at TRU than I have bought minimates. I thought that comment on moms buying them was funny, you know it's a scalper buying to sell when the exclusives are the only ones they take which is what I've been seeing. At the end of the day the scalper(non minimate lover) wins because I'll have to overpay for them and my efforts to go to TRU were for nothing except wasting gas, time and diet pepsi minimates.com idea sounds interesting. Wonder what exclusives they plan on selling.(bullseye/moonstone anyone?) I do hope it'll be a positive experience.
  5. And they are well appreciated, by me anyways I think you guys to a good job, just pointed out one thing. (Hey a review doesn't hurt anybody.) I remember a while back when Danny was gonna close out MMC and it's been kept alive since by gentlemen as yourselves taking the time to write these reviews and take pics; I still enjoy them. Over the years these reviews on MMC have taught me quite a few things I have missed or didn't know on these fantastic mini-figures we love minimates. For some of us old-times, MMC was the minimate site we first visited. Keep it up! btw I do agree that they f***** up by not making Rhodes the non-variant figure, it pissed me off but I can see why DST did it this way.
  6. LOL Darn right crazy. I use to get that many mates (3 cases) until they almost knocked me out financially, I couldn't believe it, now down to only one case (2-3 of each, 2-3 exclusives, 3 Variants, 3 box sets, 3 promos) What truly got me started in my obsession were these differences in mates and the windowless boxed mates, because you never know what you are going to get. One day I'll make a pyramid out of minimate boxes.
  7. Sweet!!! Man I thought I could kick the bad habit, but these new minimates are just so damn good I'll never quit Although I'm glad I never could even if I tried It's good to see minimates are still thriving after these last few years.
  8. Yes it is a different green. I've always wondered about keeping track of the differences. Just to play it safe I get both sets because you never know if you might miss something. There has been different things like shades of color, accessories, torso type <> or hex, positioning of the hands, copyright dates, the box type/packaging themselves, the accompanying mate(the mates paired together). (Yes I'm a little obsessed if you hadn't noticed. )
  9. Ah hadn't read an MMC review in a while, it was nice to do. First there really isn't a perfect reviewer of any type imo. All reviews have a level of subjectivity and they makes it unique to the reviewers point of view. I think each reviewers style and fetishes give the review a unique quality and it's good as long as it doesn't affect the scoring too much on a personal level. The scores imo are never really hard scores. let's we forget that these reviews I think are both informational and fun. Everyone is going to have their own opinion on the reviews and the different parts to them. So my question is, what is the standard? How do you actually calculate the score? I believe that everyone is holding a different standard of review for each minimate. To me I thought the standard was was to review the different aspects of the minimate in question itself and not aspects of the entire wave such as character selection; wouldn't that be like stepping outside of the review? For me the reviews ususally mostly have been based on 1.) Paint Apps/Decals, 2.) Accessories, 3.) Character Interpretation/Accuracy in Minimate form. Then an Overall Score is given.
  10. Sweet! I would love those box sets. Especially been looking forward to the silver age x-men ever since seeing boyd's comic covers entry , the others were great too!
  11. Happy Birthday Guys!!! Hope you have a great one!!
  12. Thank goodness! Whew! I was dreading paying $100 for mates, $200 if I wanted two sets.
  13. Just genius Luke. Perfectly done. I guess there's more that just posing to these non-movable maxi-mates. Like that splash page too.
  14. Seriously where? I'm just asking so I don't waste my time going to that TRU if it's too far. I knew there was another good reason why I got doubles. (Oh and the packaging variants )
  15. Thanks DSTMatt! Just because. Really though I think it's great that someone takes the time to send out replacement parts when they can. It makes you feel extra special being a minimate collector. I've been been lucky enough to get some replacement parts in the past, it's good to know the program is still on after a few years.
  16. Obviously it's just one person's point of view. If he doesn't like crowds, he should just have kept his skinny butt at home. I think most of what was picked at is expected. I like it when a comic writer put it simply once, SDCC is like the Super Bowl, WWC is more like an All-Star game of writers/artists. You probably won't have a reason but I'll say this, I go to WWC(Chicago Comic-Con) every year and I wish could go to SDCC every year instead, it's totally a different ball game and more exciting. I'm pissed at the fact that WWC no longer gets any exclusives that interest me at all. I'm gonna try for NYCC next year to see how's that.
  17. Very nice cases, just what I was looking for. Those are a ton of Iron Men lol. Still love that Iron Spidey. For some reason I'm hooked on that Movie stealth iron man.
  18. it sure could be that! I have had problems in the past with imageshack which is why I've gone to mainly using photobucket as much as I can.
  19. Yeah it's kinda hard to miss that sig-line pic. I don't think any changes have been made. I did a couple of tests and it seems something is wrong with the link of your image. Other image links from imageshack work. When you paste your image link to your browser's address bar it returns a 404 error that possibly indicates that the image cannot be found. If the link was working properly, the image should come up from outside of the forum and your link does not. Do other images in your imageshack gallery work? Have you tried re-uploading the pic again to imageshack to create a new image link and replace the old link in your signature line with the new one?
  20. Whoever did the ratio breakdown and decided to have 1 bullseye/moonstone per case(if true) was nuts. I'm sure there are many fators involved, especially like Ivan pointed out that TRU is the customer/retailer and we've heard over and over that there is no competition between Mass Market sales and LCS/Diamond Dist. sales. DST has stated that Mass Market Store companies make the final decisions on the products they will sell based on DST's offerings/suggestions. The Bullseye/Moonstone short packing stinks, but it's understandable when the rest of the assortment has more popular headline characters and sell better even if we don't like it. Spider-Man/Venom, Wolverine/Sabretooth, War Machine/ Iron Man, Bucky/Cap America. Believe me I hate minimates at TRU because it's the worst place for me and I'm not going to buy anything else unless it's christmas, but you either live with it or with out it. Hey it's not a perfect world. imho, it helps keep minimates alive. Finally we are to get those BSG Mini-Flyers I've been waiting for and were thought dead.
  21. Quite simply, it's become a pain in the a$$. I started disliking the idea when I bought 3/6 Avengers DVDs (forgot how many) of the same movie to get mates I already had and won't watch them because I want them sealed. As an insane completist, whether you like it or not, you have to draw the line. Once you start missing minimates in your collections, it's like you lost a finger. I missed the unification spock, the toy fair 08 mate, BTTF exclusive and a few others. You can be disappointed, frustrated, distraught and crawl in a hole or you can have fun, collect minimates and learn to live with it(the pain).
  22. You know you're a minimate addict when.... you substitute minimates for food. you check ebay every hour with various search combinations to find those mates you still are missing or extreme rarities. you keep getting the same minimate over and over just because you like it. you lose count of how many minimates you have. your eyes light up every time you find them at a store. you have cold sweats at night or that itch until you get the next wave or package. you don't leave the store until you find a minimate (looking in the cracks) and annoy the staff. you get both the comic shop pack and mass market pack even if the minimate looks the same. you use your entire two weeks pay on minimates. you can use your collection to trade for any minimate. you meet someone you didn't know collects minimates and think you have found your lost minimate brother. yes you not only get annoyed when people call them lego, but you also get annoyed at people who still don't know what minimates are! you punch the guy who called them ugly! you save every picture, art, poster of a minimate to make your own. it doesn't matter to you what's the license, it's a minimate. you can't find a good reason to stop buying minimates. you start looking like one.
  23. F**** Awesome, I love'em. Guess I'll have to camp out at TRU nowadays. Thought that was over. TRU has been horrible to me, there are very little of them and some too far to drive and strike out every week for nothing. We'll see.
