  1. Let me add my congratulations to the winners, and a special thanks the Ady for adding yet another reason to the growing list of why this is such a wonderful place to be a part of.
  2. Updated again today, 1/22/07 with an additional member of Excelsior: Ricochet And again thanks to everyone for the kind words and feedback.
  3. Updated: A preview of the "work in progress" Molly from my Runaways. Taller than she should be, but you can't get much smaller than the 2" scale. She still needs a little more detail work and some fine tuning. Any ideas of how to make her better would be great.
  4. I guess I'm hopping on the bandwagon with these - I'll be buying two as well. Funny how these were not even really on my "must have list" before and now have moved up considerably. I'm such a pushover for mini's.
  5. My intentions are to attempt both a custom set of Excelsior members (to compliment Darkhawk), as well as a set of Runaways and maybe even the Pride. But so far it is slow going in terms of finding just the right components. Most of the time I just happen to stumble across a part in my bits box and say "Hey that looks just like . . ." and then I'm off and running. Also, thanks again for the feedback everyone.
  6. Wow! A very nice lineup all around. I'm impressed with the choices, and while I agree with others about the missed variant opportunity (FF She Hulk, Ionic Wonderman), I have a feeling this opportunity will truly not go unexplored at some later time, perhaps in some of the previously foretold box sets. Also, while I long for the time when we have many of the other possible Avengers, I commend DST for an awesome lineup which embodies everything which drew me into mate-collecting in the first place. Nicely done!
  7. Does the "boxed set" format allow for creation of characters which on their own might not make the traditional wave cut? For instance, as a big fan of the Runaways, would we be more likely to see them offered in a box set, or in the more traditional two pack style? Thanks for taking the time to read and respond to our questions and produce such a wonderfully addictive line. And PS, both Spiderman and Wolverine have been featured in the Runaways. I'm just saying.
  8. Updated again today, 1/17/06: Added my Ant-man attempt as well as updated picture links for all the previous images. As always, feedback is appreciated and encouraged.
  9. Like Timbo, I'll buy both but only because I'm a severe addict to all things minimates. They wouldn't necessarily be my first choices, but they are still somewhat interesting figures and will enhance the mates folio at least in diversity. I know the movies are usually a departure from the comics which spawned them, but imagine how many new fans the films have introduced to the comics. Like that, maybe these mates will not be recorded as the greatest things ever, but they could help bring even more fans into the fold and increase the chances of minimates as a whole continuing much longer than it could otherwise.
  10. I'm loving all of these so far -- very easily the best wave ever as other people have already stated. I also wanted to say how much I love the daily announcements. It would be fun if they did this every time another wave was announced. I'm always thrilled to see anything new, but spacing it out over a week allows each mate to be appreciated, dissected and critiqued. Plus it allows the suspense to build for the next announcement. Whether or not they do this again, thanks DST, for not only this already superior new wave, but also for trying to make things even more enjoyable for us fans.
  11. Just a quick update - added my "wip" Young Avengers' Vision and my attempt at Darkhawk.
  12. They are minimates, therefore I love them! I have not been at this as long as many others here, but the love affair has been fast and frenzied. I had of late become disillusioned with many toy lines; those that showed real promise and ingenuity were quickly lost in the sands of time and obscurity. Those which had lasting shelf life seemed unimaginative. Either they were so over-sculpted to be like a statue without movement, or they were so over articulated as to be a ghastly vision of joints -- all function with no form. Minimates were perfect for me because they were simplistic in design, yet expressive in terms of characterization. They possessed lots of articulation given their size, and the ever expanding scope of licensees covered, boggles my mind and harkens back to the time of my childhood when 3 3/4" was the standard scale for most of the great toys - G.I.Joe, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Micronauts, etc. Anyway, the reasons I've given are only a few, and like so many others have already shown, the list goes on and on. I guess if I were to chose a single reason why I love minimates -- my wife doesn't hate them/bar them from crossing the threshold. Can't remember the last time that happened with a toyline.
  13. I did place my order a few months ago, but I don't remember exactly when. You may be right about them only receiving a small amount of their expected shipment. I just hope they do in fact get more in soon, to atleast fulfill the preorders they have already taken. Thanks for verifying Modefan.
  14. Modefan, are you sure your Modern Cylons are in the "pile of loot" from BBTS? I ordered from them as well and so far only the Classics have been acknowledged as having arrived. I'm still awaiting confirmation of my Modern order being filled. When did you first place your order with them?
  15. Antacost, I may have actual gotten the idea from you. I remembered seeing a clear based along these lines pictured somewhere in the customs section and it made me think of these. It may very well have been one of yours and I didn't realize it was the same thing all together. As for the heating aspect, I just wanted to change the direction a little to allow for more angled ascents. So far I tried about 6 or so variations and all seem to work fairly well.
  16. I'm located in Twin Falls, Idaho and our local Target got them in right about the time they were first announced. It was a pleasant surprise, given we never got the GSX sets at all. Sadly though, between what I bought for myself (one of each) and what I've passed along to other members of the board, all that remains are the SM/SW and the Wolverine/Colossus two packs.
  17. Thanks for the praise. Timbo, the shoulder pads and base are both from Warhammer miniatures by Games Workshop. The shoulder pads are from a 40k Space Marine, and the base is a clear "flying" character base. The shoulder pads were a bit tight, so I shaved the minimate arms down slightly and then glued them in place. The bases include a flat base piece, and two differing sized leg pieces, for varying heights. I had a bunch of bits left over from my miniature phase years ago and thought these might work. I simply turned the leg piece upside down so that the wider portion was at the top, clipped the original connection points off, heated the plastic lightly with a heat gun, and then twisted it slightly to the angle I wanted. I've been experimenting with this lately so I can get some of my flying characters off the ground. If I get a chance I'll post some detail pics later to show exactly what I'm talking about.
  18. Updated 1/8/07: Iron Lad pics are up! Tips for improvement are appreciated.
  19. I haven't collected any of these yet, but these pics make the idea very tempting. I might have to pick up one or two of these in the future.
  20. Very nice! I like what you've done and would love to see more in the future.
  21. I was originally going to only order the modern Cylons, but since my preorder is still hanging out in limbo, I stumbled across a case of the classics and just couldn't pass them up. I figure, if you're going to be a plastic-crack addict, you might as well be a really good plastic-crack addict!
  22. Not sure about other people, but I found mine in Twin Falls, Idaho. Usually the blackhole of the minimate shopping experience.
  23. Not sure who is still looking for these, but I stopped back by Target this morning and found two additional GR/DD 2 packs. If anyone is interested they are yours for purchase price plus shipping. PM or email me.
  24. Stopped by Target today and managed to score the Daredevil/Ghost Rider two pack. I was really shocked to see these at my local Target, because I also never saw the GSX series. However this time there are three full pegs of new Minimates! I guess having the shelves somewhat picked over from Christmas gives them a need for space filler. Whatever the case I was very excited to get this two pack.
  25. I'm sure you know that words can never fully express the sorrow we feel in our hearts, but please take some solace from the sympathy and prayers offered here. I can only imagine the heartache and sadness which you all are feeling now. Death is unexpected at best; at worst, it is cruel and seemingly without reason. Not that this is the magic answer to helping get through what you're feeling now, but from my own past experience I'd like to recommend the book entitled "The Next Place" by Warren Hanson. It's a beautifully written and illustrated book about loss, written from the point of view of the loved one who has left us behind, about what they encounter in "the next place." It's usually found in the children's section and I read it at the memorial service of the woman who would have become my mother-in-law. She too was a wonderful person whom I didn't have the chance to know as well as I would have liked. My prayers are with you and your family.
