  1. I think there's going to be a riot now if we don't get Jim Lee Jean Grey somewhere in this wave. Having Black Queen Jean not be the variant seems like a very, very strange move to me... maybe the idea of Selene (or some other Hellfire Club member) as the variant will prove to be right, after all.
  2. This isn't a version of Jean that I know tremendously well, but this mate looks pretty good to me. I did think that the forums would have exploded after this picture went up... but maybe that's still to come... I can see them putting that on the box now. Jennifer Connely? Awww, now you've made me want Labyrinth minimates again.
  3. Well, if we're counting story arcs, a GLA Misassembled box set is definitely one I'd want to get. Those five characters have been suggested for such a set several times before - but why does everyone forget that this box set also needs to include Monkey Joe and Tippy Toe? Squirrel Girl would not be pleased! I'd be interested in some AoA stuff too. Sounds good to me. For a third, I'd be inclined to go for an AoA and Beyond boxset: - Sabretooth - Blink - Sunfire - Dark Beast In case we haven't got obscure enough yet, I'd also like to see: She-Hulk: Superhuman Law - Jennifer Walters, Attorney-at-Law (ideally with extra She-Hulk pieces) - Holden Holliway* - Awesome Andy - Southpaw (* Arguably, Titania might be a better fit for this boxset - but I'm going to continue to hold on to the hope that we'll see a Titania/Volcana 2-pack one day, and leave her out.) And, if you really want a box set from just one single comic: Heroes For Hope - Mohawk Storm - Punky Rogue - M-Costume Magneto - Banana-eating Wolverine* Accessories: - all the food pieces they can make! Feed the minimates! (In keeping with the original premise of Heroes for Hope, this could be a special charity box set, with a portion of the proceeds from each sale going to an appropriate organisation. ) (*to keep Marketing happy.)
  4. Not sure if Matt's comment means that it'll be better than it looks there, or simply that we've got more exciting reveals on the way. Maybe it'll come with alternate pieces to turn it into Hellfire Guard Cannonball. Colours look a bit off to me there too - hoping that there's just a bit of an issue with some of the colour on these photos. I too would welcome a slip-on mask for this mate, and hope there's a printed belt so we can lose the separate piece. Further to my earlier comments on Beast, it occured to me that any powerhouse chest for him should not only be shorter and slimmer, but it should also be free from movement-restricting shoulderguards. Otherwise, how can poor Beast swing through the trees, scale walls or dangle from lampposts? As for the guessing game... I really don't want any zombies (unless they're Rob Zombies ), but I think someone's already guessed what I was going to go for anyway. So, just for fun, I'll guess at Jim Lee Jean, Black Queen Jean, and Jubilee. (Omega Red and Sinister remain strong candidates for that last spot though, and I suppose we should consider Sebastian Shaw and other Hellfire Club Inner Circle members now too.) I'd also be very surprised if we didn't see a Dark Beast somewhere along the line, even if not in this wave.
  5. Barry is a really cool guy & was nothing but gracious & friendly in replying to my questions and emails as well......especially the question regarding the photograph I have of him & .....the donkey. My Goth Girl Minimate arrived in the post shortly afterwards. Glad to hear you managed to get one at last, BHM! (Assuming you weren't joking about that part.) Has anyone else in the UK had any luck?
  6. As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't get much better then Jim Lee X-Men minimates, especially when it's characters who were in the 90s animated series, so I was both amazed and delighted when these turned up. Cyke looks great, and it's a huge relief to me that he's not gnashing his teeth again. However something looks a little off with this figure. I think it's the visor - seems a little too wide and makes his head look too big (as well as not being far enough down his face, but I think it's just not on properly in this picture). I'm not entirely sold on the gold colour, either. Ideally he'll come with a separate hairpiece and either glowing eyes or ruby-quartz glasses printed under that visor. I hardly dared hope we'd be seeing Jim Lee Beast after the Secret Invasion one came out, and whilst this figure certainly has a few flaws, I'm very pleased to see it. The facial expression is by far the best I've seen for him - just the right mixture of solemnity and friendliness. The chest tampo does a great job of implying shaggy fur, and the feet are brilliant, even if the upwards pointing fur seems a little unusual. I'm very relieved that his hands are open - this Beast at least will be able to hold some laboratory equipment - but the forearms do look a little smooth just after the wrists, perhaps a little extra sculpting or tampoing to imply fur would help here. The big problems (no pun intended) here, as others have said, are the chest block and the hairpiece. While I'd say Jim Lee Beast is probably a suitable candidate for a powerhouse chest, it really ought to be a much slimmer one, and I'd like to see the chest tampo printed underneath as well, so that we have an option to dress him in a labcoat. (Of course, if they want to produce a variant Beast with a labcoat-adorned powerhouse chest and glasses, that's fine with me too.) As well as being slimmer, a powerhouse chest *certainly* shouldn't add any height to Dr. McCoy - as I understand it, he's only meant to be 5'11" in this form. Let's save height-increasers for those who really need them. Whilst there's a lot to commend the hair sculpt (I love the little lock falling into his face), it's quite simply too big. Even the ears at the sides look too large - the whole thing seems to have been sculpted to slightly too large a scale. Resculpted to the same sort of size as wave 28's Wolverine, and maybe moving the sideburns in slightly, this could be magnificent. Here's hoping DST revise it. And it just gets better. Rogue! At risk of sounding nitpicky, the colours look a little bit off here though - too much blue in the green, too much orange in the yellow, the hair looks a little dark, the eyes don't look quite as green as they should. I also don't remember her missing a part of the X-logo on her chest, and green straps on her boots would have been nice - but the sculpt seems pretty solid, and this is pretty damn good-looking figure of one of my favourite characters. I'm slightly surprised she didn't get glove-edges this time around, though maybe it'd have been too much with her jacket-sleeves as well. Wonder if she'll come with ungloved hands too...? I really hoping so too. Bring on Jim Lee Hoverchair Xavier, Jubilee, Jean, Sinister, Omega Red and the Shi'ar! (and Nightcrawler/Meggan, of course. )
  7. (Sorry to take so long to post the rest of these.) Thoughts for day three: Cappy: You'd think the galleries would include an option to sort by filename, rather than just date taken, wouldn't you? Going through the pictures in order and getting the proper storyline was certainly rewarding, though. I see Kang managed to sneak an appearance in, as well as getting another good protest letter. Things I really liked here were: the Art Asylum (con booth?), the disco floor, the way the Battle Beast costume was integrated into the story, the "Missing" notice in the dessert picture helping advance the plot, and the bombermate factory. I'm also very amused by the sign at your museum! And at last we know where the Ark of the Covenant went. GodMagnus: "Defying gravity" made me laugh a lot. I liked your take on The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly! The dashboard idea is done well again for your "Very Fast" - did you have a story prepared in case you got pulled over? (How about you, Mattallica?) The alien abduction was nicely done - loved the "yoink!", and I thought your "Size Does Not Matter" was brilliant! Egon's body language in the Art Asylum pic is priceless. Blacksun1520: Your photos comprise an intersting mix of the good, the disturbing, and the funny (there's a film title in that somewhere). The good: the fabulous hair salon, the halloween party backdrop for the Battle Beast costume, the lighting on the librarian picture, the chase scene for "Very Fast", the cylon/skrull identification chart, and Size Doesn't Matter. Having your 'mate as one of the Ghostbusters for the flaming Staypuft was a nice touch, and you had another good disco floor. The disturbing: the two Art Asylum pics, and the Disney zombie (which was a little *too* disturbing for my liking). The funny: The evil lair (which also made me think of Invader Zim) The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, and the Henchmen participating in "Jazzercise". The dragonfly pic is incredible, "Flirting" is very sweet indeed! I'm getting a very strange impression of TBT! from all this. Day four: vbpanizzi: Well... I like most of these, you've done some very nice stuff with your pirate theme. I guess the standouts are: preparing (that's quite a box of bits!), the Battle Beast, celebrating (I love that one of the monkeys is wearing the mask!), the rowboat at the waterfall, a great unique, the museum (no, don't touch that!), the goth girl, and your interpretation of the Art Asylum. Your choice of restaurant was a great way to stick with your theme, the librarian idea was a very good one, and the disco made me laugh a lot! Maxcarnage: Oooh, you made a very evil-looking evil lair! Also an excellent (if slightly freaky) abducted by aliens, another disturbing Disney zombie, and another good but strange Art Asylum. I also liked the Battle Beast(s), the pirates, the very nice shot you got for your unique, and the tiny bowl for Mr. White in the restaurant. Great choice of museum! I think you've also found the most enthusiastic librarian yet. Day five: Bob Harris: Ah, what can I say? Your avatar's making me laugh in pretty much every picture. Great work on all the comments and various signs. Extra-special mentions for the pirates, the Kang and Rob Leifield signs, the Prison/Photo ministory, your Staypuft model, the glider for "Very Fast", and my favourite offer of the contest! Congratulations to Bob for winning (I hope you're not going to be in too much trouble with Deadpool after all this), and to the rest of my fellow competitors, I think you all turned out some great work. Many thanks as well to all those who made this year's Hunt possible - I had a lot of fun, and really hope that it won't be the last.
  8. Thoughts on the second day's pictures: Geohound: That's some precarious-looking posing of your minimate in "Up High"! Things I particularly liked here were: the plastic being peeled back and Spymaster's look of triumph upon his release, the Kang protest (some great placards! ) and the evil lair plans. Best of all, I thought, was your Henchmen pic - some fabulous lighting creating a great atmosphere on that one. Your librarian looks worried. Mattallica: Nice idea for the "Very Fast" picture! And the Staypuft looks - err, looked - great! Loved the alien abduction, the evil lair, and the Battle Beast; was rather worried by the "Size Doesn't Matter" (although not as worried as poor young James there). The waterfall looks pretty impressive - I have to wonder how much trouble you had keeping your poor mate from being swept away. NorthRaider: Wow, there's a lot to comment on here! My favourite bits: the goth girl band, the preparation audition, the jail-break (I especially like that Psylocke and Gambit got straight to work after being released themselves), and the very sophisticated-looking Cylon Detection Module. On the other hand, Quicksilver in a disco wig is a disturbing sight, and I don't think I want to know where you got your ideas for the Art Asylum... Other things that deserve a mention include "Flirting" (you must have some very understanding friends! ), your "Unique" (is that a real dog sneaking into the picture and giving Hawk of Fate a wary look?), the tiny Happy Meal, the incredible fountain (do make sure it's not really an invading Tripod), Tony trying to show off in the (converted microwave?) museum, and the Kang/Falcon 2010 banners.
  9. Wow. Well, I'm glad that TBT! went with the staggered approach this year, there's just so much to take in! I doubt I'm going to be able to say half as much as I'd like about all the fabulous pictures everyone's taken, but I'm going to try and do my best. I'll start with the first day's: Ivan: You've certainly convinced me of two things: Firstly, that I want to learn a lot more about photography, and secondly, that I want a lot more lego. I suspect I may end up spending a very long time trying to figure out just how you did a lot of your pictures. I particularly liked your evil lair (I'm very disappointed that I didn't have time to do my own one) - the sharks are a fabulous touch - the disco picture, the posing on "Unique", the strange machinery of the preparation room (reminds me somewhat of the Ultron assembly sequence they kept using in the 90s Avengers cartoon), and of course, the various lighting effects you managed throughout. Groundhog: I continue to love the idea for your mate. Great job getting him to cling to the box in the TRU pic, and very brave of you to set fire to the Staypuft so close to both SCIHM and what appears to be a lot of dry leaves! I also liked that one of the Henchmen is armed with a fish, and the Kang protest poem (nice to see someone else sneaking a Squirrel Girl mention into their entry! ) Dio: My favourites here were: the Battle Beast, the fact that Egon and one of the Henchmen seem more interested in looking at the camera than Spider-Doom, the posing in "Not a Cyclon", and the title on "Flirting". Many thanks to everyone who's had something nice to say about my own pictures - I've been very worried about just what kind of reception they would receive. Ivan: Glad you recognised Conan the Librarian, I really wasn't too sure how many of the references people would get! I was wary of using my Frankenmate for the very reason you gave, but didn't manage to come up with a better plan in the time. Bob Harris: Yes, that is my "Very Fast" picture - it was originally meant to have a bit more to it (and tie in with "Taking the Photo"), but in the end I didn't have time to do a lot of what I wanted. Cappy: The Squirrel Girl sign was wishful thinking on my part as much as anything!
  10. ...and a good Pietro face tampo.
  11. Looks like there's now another way to get hold of Goth Girl - if you're happy to advertise the new book on your webspace. http://barrylyga.com/new/get-minimate.html
  12. Looks like another great wave to me. I wasn't too sure about Menace initially, but I daresay some of those pieces will be great for customising, especially for folk looking to do generic fantasy 'mates. I suspect I may have to get quite a few of the sentinels, though I hope the hand-flames will be removeable. Add me to the list of people wanting a tattooed second face for Rachel, a slimmer Anti-Venom, and most importantly of all, a Meggan/Nightcrawler two-pack to complete classic Excalibur (a Meggan with extra claws and a second face for her battle form would be particularly welcome).
