  1. Best of luck to those who enter - I really had a blast doing it for so long, but was lucky in that it was the early years when there wasn't so much product! Later on I was really lucky to get some superb reviewers, who all came from the Multiverse (so I knew they were all great guys too) so hopefully the same can happen for Luke with this contest.

  2. Hi Danny, been awhile, glad to see you pop in. Your name actually came up at the meetup. So are you officially out of collecting minimates?

Afraid so, I haven't bought any for well over 4 years now. I think the last stuff I bought was Iron Man 2 and Minimates MAX stuff. I do want to support Luke with his exclusive though, because it's so cool that he/his store finally has one. Plus Carnage is one of my favourite Marvel characters, so it's all good!

  3. Agree with most of the sentiments here. Walking Dead is a great license for DST to get. Hopefully the cvilian/zombie ratios are 1:1. Slightly sad that Maximum Zombies are on hold, but sometimes you just have to go with the licenced stuff, especially in these troubled economic times.

  4. I can totally related to how you are feeling now, drgn316. Sometimes you do have to walk away because the drive you had once is not there anymore. It's especially hard when you feel you have a responsibility to a website you have poured a lot of time into.

When I initially closed Minimates Central in 2007, I didn't foresee myself getting back into Minimates, but it reopened after a few months with Rad doing the reviews, and I actaully got excited about Minimates again and started buying them and reviewing again.

I think a lot of people's interest wax and wane. As said, it's so long running that it's hard to keep motivated sometimes. In some ways I prefered the old days when there were only a couple of lines and I could be a completist but that's just be being nostalgic and somewhat selfish.

Good luck in the future and I hope Minimate Headquarters finds some contributers - this community is amazing and I always "recruited" people from MMMV because you can tell a lot about people from how they post on here.

  5. Thanks to everyone for the kind words about myself, the site, the redesign and the new ownership.

I readily admit that Minimates Central has been treading water for a long while as my toy interests blossomed elsewhere, but it has always been clear how much affection people have for it as a simple fan-run site, which makes my decision to hand it over to Luke the correct one. I think he will do an amazing job re-invigorating it for old fans and hopefully with the changes he will be able to bring in many new Minimates fans, which is what we all want.

As for myself, it's never really goodbye - 8 years is a very long time to want to cut ties completely. I shall still be lurking and posting when somebody mentions "boobies", but as a line of toys I collect I am now finished with Minimates.

The last few months I have been active on a large Lego forum and it has been weird "starting over" and being a complete newbie but I am enjoying it. I have been learning photography techniques and digital image manipulation and have been reviewing Lego sets.

Thank you again for all your kind words, it means so much to me that I was able to touch so many people (oo-er!) and certainly Minimates Central has been a huge personal accomplishment for me.

  6. Hi all,

On 21st September 2003 a website was created called Marvel Minimates Central, dedicated to a niche line of 2" Lego figures of Marvel characters that had had a film or a new series of comics just that year.

That website grew and evolved as the Minimates brand evolved, with a proper domain name (dropping the "Marvel" prefix), a new server, covering more lines, and later adding some more reviewers other than just myself. It has been a massive part of my life for 8 years, either reviewing or latterly just running the website and putting up reviews that others have done. It's still the first hit that comes up when you type the word Minimates into Google :)

And now, today, Minimates Central is 8 years old! And it seemed somehow fitting that on its 8th birthday, I step away now.

I know some of you will remember the closure and subsequent 3 month hiatus Minimates Central took in 2007, I can assure you that this will not happen again. This is because our very own Minimates superstar, ace customiser, MMMV staff member, and owner of his very own Toy Store, Luke Porter, will be taking over the ownership and management of Minimatescentral.com.

He has been working on a redesign of the site with many new features, such as video reviews and social networking options, all in a much easier-to-read format. Bear with him as the rest of the hundreds of previous reviews are added into this new format.

I am incredibly lucky to be able to pass on Minimates Central to someone with such talent and enthusiasm for the Minimates brand and I am genuinely excited to see what else Luke has planned. Current reviewer and MMMV staff member Lurch77 will continue to provide top-notch reviews. Thank you to him for all his hard work since becoming a reviewer, and thank you to Rad and Sam for being the other two main reviewers over the last few years.

I hope you will join me in wishing Luke and Minimates Central all the best for the future. I am sure this new chapter in the life of the worlds biggest Minimates review resource will be a huge success!

    Thank you and goodbye :)
