  1. Kaine and Jackal look dope!
Kanie's design never struck me as especially practical looking... more a case of riding the wave of flowly caped, dark/edgy characters that Spawn epitomised in the 90s.... but in pink! I think they've captured the essence of his windswept hair and cape and 90sness perfectly.

I think Inhumans is a tough sell right now. Maybe when the show came out there was a small window, but it was REAL small.

If we're talking about the live action show that ABC produced... that window probably existed in the lead-up to the show's premier.
The second that first episode went to air, it killed any hope for The Inhumans being touched again for a long time.

  3. I am... not ok after the most recent episode.
I'll shield this for those who haven't watched it yet.

    Spoiler

Hearing that sassy, brassy voice that I've had in my ears since I was 12 years old... hearing her heart break like that was absolutely devastating.
I know this was a 30 minute cartoon for kids, but DAMN.

On a more clinical note - the pacing of this episode felt better. Some of the previous episodes felt like they blew through a story that should have taken 2 or 3 episodes. This felt more even and a bit like the jumping off platform for whatever is coming at the end of the season.

And that last 10 minutes... that was viscerally upsetting. It felt so intense.

If the rest of the season manages to keep going like this, I'll be very impressed.

I said in the other thread - Polaris as Malice matches some clues. I'd much prefer her to a Wolverine with a spikier mask.

I may stand alone on this one... but I would 1000% be down for a Malice-possessed Polaris. That costume SCREAMS 'toyetic'... and don't think we've ever seen her in toy form.

  5. I don't think this is much a spoiler for the show, but for the sake of anyone who hasn't seen it yet:

    Spoiler

Goblin Queen has just debuted in X-Men '97. Interestingly, Hasbro *did* in fact censor the toy. It's only minor, but the bare upper thighs are ok in a children's cartoon, yet for some reason not ok in the kids toys?
Although the cleavage stays either way. Go figure. 🤣

  6. Episode 3 just dropped. I'm loving the tone, animation style and character design for the most part. My only issue so far has been pacing. Episode 3 felt like it should have been stretched over 2 or 3 episodes.
I am also VERY much digging the Morph cameos, but I do hope we see those characters actually show up and get some attention in future episodes.

  7. They're back, back, back, back, back again!

Just watched the first two episode of X-Men '97n on D+ last night. I gotta say - the creators of the show KNOW who they're making this for: If you were a kid who liked this in the 90s, you are going to be well fed.

    My spoiler free review:
There are certainly a few things here and there to adjust to (the animation style is a little less lush/more streamlined & some voices have obviously changed), but the feel of the series... the heart of it feels firmly in tact. There's a LOT that could have gone wrong in trying to cash in on a classic, but the creators seem like they have really tried to stay true to the OG while giving a few modern flourishes.
There are some fun cameos and a LOT of easter eggs for anyone who knows the original series by heart.

What did y'all think of it?

  8. If it *is* indeed the Inferno storyline, I can live with a regular bikini for Maddie, sans underboob.
She's just been promoted in Marvel Future Flight and they're using something I'd consider 'close enough' to the source material. It bears some resemblance to the proposed HasLab version, but with a little peekaboo window for the cleavage.

Whatever this X-Men set is, I think it will be well received, with five figures, two women, three villains, two new characters, and one micro-figure.

'two women, three villains, two new characters, and one micro-figure' combined with '80's X-Men story' sounds like a winning combination to me, whatever it is.

Selene/Black Queen is pretty inappropriate, but so is Dazzler, and she wasn't even THAT long ago. Things have obviously changed.

I see a lot of people online blaming the Mouse literally everything they don't like about Marvel right now, but I'm wondering: as someone working within the toy industry, have you got any idea on what has created this shift/change?

Is there any consideration on how different sets might be aimed at different audiences?
I get that a set featuring characters in a recent animated Spider-Man film could be assumed to be for children. So - try and keep it from being too raunchy.
For a box set featuring a story from the 80s- anyone who's old enough to remember those comics and costumes is in their 40s+ now, right? Maybe that set is more of an adult collectible?

oddly enough though (and proof you never know someone until you know someone) i tried messing with him by implying i was bi-sexual b/c i honestly thought it would get him to stop talking to me.  instead he tried to set me up with his brother.  :D

Was his brother good looking, though? (asking for a friend 🤣)

  10. I take some umbrage with the idea that a hint (or even hefty portion) of bosom is somehow damaging to and inappropriate for children considering the extreme violence of the subject matter at hand.

Cyborg lady with needle fingers who stabs people? Fine!
Dude with knife hands who severs limbs? Awesome!
Future soldier with massive guns who shoots up the place? Perfect!
Women with breasts? 🚨🚨🚨 all hands on deck! We need to protect the kiddies!

Last time I checked, the number 1 cause of the death of children in America was firearms.... not jugs.

EDIT: in case I was unclear, this is not pointed at you, Zach - I'm guess I'm kinda just shouting into the void about my frustrations.

  11. If there's a way to get a Marc Silvestri Goblin Queen, I'll be thrilled.
Hasbro seem to think they aren't able to release a classic GQ in comic book stores. Even their Hasbro Pulse version was considerably tamer than how she was drawn in the original Inferno run.
And now we're getting a D+ '97 animated version that's covered from head to toe, seems like there's a directive to make characters a little more prudish?

  12. New X-Men coming in 2025.... probably.

No plans for new/current X-Men looks -- I think we've decided that new and fresh is not always the best way to go, in case looks turn out to be short-lived or not well-received. The next few sets are decidedly nostalgic, and the X-Men set we have planned is very 1980s. BUT it does have an obscure X-Villain in it!

The X-set is Series 87, so it would PROBABLY be early 2025.

Even if it's not locked in,  it's good enough for to get excited and to start wishlisting.
The 'obscure X-Villain' clue has me hoping we might see a member the Marauders from Mutant Massacre or perhaps S'ym/N'astirh from Inferno.
What obscure 80s villain are y'all hoping to see?

We love the 80s and we LOVE an obscure villain. Is this a set we're expecting this year?

Any chance we could get some new X-Men minimates from their latest comic line? Some really cool designs in those new series.

Right? That X-cutioner figure hrom Hasbro has my hopes up high that we'll see more slightly obscure villains turn up in the show and in toy form.
Would be great to see a couple of Minimates sets too.

  15. Just had a little brainwave: Lady Deathstrike has played both sides of the fence & she was once in the body of Ana Cortes (so not always the same person).
And there are a few costume options we haven't seen as Minimates yet:

    X2 movie
Messiah Complex era (Might have been a Humberto Ramos design?)
Sugar Skull/Dia De Los Muertos (Ana Cortes)
