  1. Marvel = All chase

    BSG = Series 4

    Star Trek: Series 2 & 3

Less concerned about everything except Marvel, for which I got last lacking chase, Vision 2.0, this week. I have this disturbing trend of either being very proactive about chases and the line in general, or running behind and having to deal with ebay and trading here in a effort to catch up.

  2. Iron-Man is a classic example of a character who is pretty much defined by him having various outfits, so makes sense to have multiple versions. I have no objection, at least this year with the movie anyway, especially as DST are making an effort with new molding. Now if we were getting a heavy parts reuse wave...

  3. Save for the Rhodes as chase, all very good news.

I have no objection with a new Black Spidey, that two pack is basically "Fearful Symmetry" with Kraven, but I'm torn on full mask which would be a way to uniquely and definitively make it different than the original, but which make bulkier than most Spideys.

  4. It does, based on the page 4 it claims that as well as not adhering to contracts with sport guy that they also violating the terms of contracts with owners of Speed Racer which would seem to imply to my non-legal eyes that they DID have a contract for speed racer... just they exceeded what the contract allowed them to do.

It would be amusing and somewhat sad if all they had the rights to do was produce webepisodes and related content, with no ability to release the "classic" stuff they did...

  5. *blood vessel burst*

    So we had Civil War

    we're getting the Avengers...

    Stark-aploza too....

    and now the Invaders.

WOW DST, I'm also happy despite the hoop jumping this poor Aussie will have o go through to get 'em.

  6. While fan-designing seem incredibly unlikely based on pass Q&As and the like, I think most would be happy with just fan-voting on a wave slot/2-pack.

I'm talking about the Shulkie Marvel Select figure which was originally exclusive to 2005 summer conventions and was chosen in a fan poll run by ToyFare magazine, allowing respondents to pick from five characters. Two of the characters were later released, which seems to imply that all were seriously designed and that the poll was really just to decide which to release first.

Say DST develops a wave and hold a poll with for the final two-pack or even just the chase figure, with a selection of options, with the "losers" perhaps appearing in later waves. Chases are meant for fans after all.

Yeah, I know, very unlikely. But just throwing out an option that IMO more likely than "design from scratch".

  7. While Wave 10 was a bit much, IMO it is a a female hair piece that can stand being reused, unlike most of the others which are fairly speific styles. The Storm on Shulkie also made me weep for this reason, if I look at her hair all I keep seeing is that frigging lightning bolt :(

The Sabertooth one has the same problem but mangified due to the distinct and unique molding to work with Sabertooth's coat. At least Nitro doesn't have a cape, but still guessing it sits slightly off kilter like Raft Sentry.

  8. it's all good to me, although i do share the sentiment of character costume variants being less important than all-new characters getting the minimate treatment for the first time. i wouldn't mind if they saved most variations for boxed sets like these and having the mass-release 'mates focus on new characters.

I tend to agree and for the most part exclusives have stuck to variations. Personally I'd rather Marvel movie mates work like DST's other movie licenses and just have a boxset per movie instead of a wave too.

There seems to be just as much chance are that happening as us not getting some of the suggested Wolverine variations in a exclusive boxset just in time for a certain Wolverine movie next year...

  9. Is it me or anyone else think we're due for some Spider-Man love?

We did last year, movie preview two pack.

Nothing like movie to drive the line and open the purse strings. This set is like the AA Fantasic Four boxset, a movie tie-in without directly being related to the movie, probably cheaper and faster to get approved as an exclusive that way for AFX. That said, AFX also had the earlier Iron Man exclusive 2-pack so maybe they just really love Stark too and a sense of perfect timing.

As to the set itself, it's a beaut with all the variations. I tend to agree that more sense for Iron-y-man variations than most other people. I'd prefer more new sculpting, but seems a vain hope. The gold if it makes it to the production mates, unlike vac-metalised Silver Surfer who we never saw a proto all shiny, is a bit jarring and seems amusing that no re-use of the repulsor hand too.

  10. Hulk/Iron-Man 2-pack would be sweet, but I wonder if a movie preview would be allowed? Iron-y-Man is Paramount, Hulk is Universal, two entirely different studios. Seems unlikely to mix.

A comic based two-pack would be possible, but new molding would open up for anybody else.

  11. Is it me or has every Marvel movie we've gotten true mates of (ignoring merely having comics mates out at the same time ie Wave 1 being out around when Daredevil and first Hulk film were out, Wave 8 close to the first FF movie) has not been...well.... good?

X-Men 3 didn't do great compared to the preceding movies, ditto Spidey 3, and IMO if Ghost Rider had be more successful we would have gotten them too, even delayed like the Last Stand mates were. Arguably if DST got better at the license timing thing, which admittedly is often out of their hands, having mates out before/during the cinema run of even a lackluster movie would drive them reasonably well.

  12. IMO I think DCD was hurt more by the costs of larger mates and higher degree of unique molding rather than having chases or not.

Personally I think Minimates are really on the borderline of just being able to support chase figures, the production runs are rather low compared to mass-retail lines and small retailers are much less likely to absorb either ordering cases to ensure chases or the left-overs that people don't buy because they can't get the chase.

  13. The old ones could levitate up stairs too. How quickly they forget...

That brings up a interesting point, New Doctor is very very light on past Doctor stuff (Sarah Jane, Tristian Doc), Sarah Jane Adventures can't show K9 makes me wonder if we will see past Doctor mates. Things like a Doctor Who children's character book on Captain Jack that only references information/events from the new series and nothing from Torchwood really doesn't inspire me with hope...
