  1. I already ordered mine a week or so ago from AFX, since I was already getting some other stuff & it didn't make the shipping go up by adding it. Not sure I'll like them, might have to wait a few years to give them to the kiddo...wouldn't want to freak the little guy out for life, he takes his heroes pretty seriously at present...
  2. I am horrified to realize I can't remember our first foray into all things minimate...I think it may have been something c3...but anyway, after the first one, it didn't take much! Interestingly enough, it was minimates that first got my son to finally talk, which may seem like no big deal...until you realize he was almost 5 at the time...of course, you couldn't understand the difference between "Superman" and "Spiderman" at first, but I give a lot of credit to my little 2" friends!!! Anyway, after the first ones we stumbled on, I couldn't get enough of them...I have the same problem some of you have, in reverse...hubby thinks "our" hobby (mine & my son's) is getting a little out of hand...but they're just so darn cute...("cute"...hmm...too girly?? Get over it.)
  3. True, and explains why I would probably lose in bidding on one anyway, to one of the aforementioned "completists" but the mention of it still inspires hope, if only temporary. We're pretty strictly into the superheros/villains as that is where the wee one's obsessions lie, but the bomber holds a special tie to those I've spent a few years talking with (...networking with...finding the elusive batcopter!...) This is at least the third different forum I've arrived at only to find, once again, Timbo and the rest of the die-hard club, like old friends I hadn't seen for awhile after some old sites (who shall remain nameless) disappeared and left me feeling like no one else understood how totally cool the little guys were! (Hubby still thinks kiddo & I are a little "out there"). It was like, "Aha! So that's where you guys went!" Personally, we'll never have the 24 cast, the Rocky crew, or even the Battlestar Galactica gang (just don't take my DVDs) but I guess to me, Bombermate would be similar to my USAT membership card, something that says, "Hey, I take my (triathlon/minimate) obsession seriously so lay off". I know its a touchy subject, and not to stir up any negativity, just to put out there another point of view; obviously since they have a name on the bag they won't likely remain imprisoned in it if resold, but inevitibly someone will say, "Hey, who's that one there supposed to be...?" From my experience, there are a great many people on this board who would give you the shirt off their back if they heard you were shirtless, and who wouldn't want something that says, "These are the type of people I care to call friends". You are exactly right in that it is the story behind something that gives it its value, and I have a few stories (those of you know who you are!!!) Hope that helps to explain the "draw"...again, just one point of view.
  4. Not to mention it's the only way some of us who "chased" previous forums from place to place in previous years just trying to keep up (and whose #1 & only son & minimate collector was not yet born to inspire them to collect) have of getting one! People forget that for every person who dares to sell (gasp) their prized 'mates, there is another of us eagerly waiting to cherish it and give it the coveted spot in the glass case in the den, and never ever sell it again, so at least I would consider it to be "staying in the family". I don't have any family members who avidly collect these things to "will" me any when they pass, so forum member auctions is as good as it gets, IMO! ...The only thing worrying me is that buying something from ebay with the name "bomb" in the title will somehow get my name on a domestic terrorism watch list...
  5. No big mystery here...most of you already know my screen name is for my son, Mikey, who is my "batmite". Batmite, the well-meaning little urchin from an alternate dimension, was always trying to *help* Batman (being his self-proclaimed biggest fan), but of course somehow his big plans always seemed to backfire and cause trouble for our hero. Bat-mite was of course my favorite character from the late 70's batman animated series, and if any of you has (or has had) a 3-4 year old with a Batman obsession, it just seems to fit so perfectly. My Mikey-Mike is the ultimate Batman/Superman/Wolverine/Spidey fan...but at 3 years old knows the names of ALL the superheroes and villains, including their alter-ego (everyday) names. He is the reason I got into (first c3, then) minimates, and now I just think they're the coolest little things on the planet, so of course I have to make sure he has plenty to play with, as well as an awesome mint collection for when he gets older and realizes they're actually collectible. Since I would do absolutely anything for this kid, he should have a pretty decent collection some day
  6. Oh...and xVashx...thanks for the awesome trade! Don't know if you saw my +1, but I got that sucker in only 2 days, unbelievable. Hope mine got there as fast! Thanks again
  7. I ordered 3 sets of each, not realizing that if I just went ahead & ordered 4, I would (theoretically) be sure to recieve the variant. Wonder if I can up my Qty. before the next one comes out (my pre-order is already on file). As for shipping, because I ordered them all at the same time on the same order#, I only pay one shipping; they don't charge any extra for each release (which is good, b/c the shipping I paid for the first shipment WAS hefty). Shanester, to answer your question, I was just hoping to get the variant for each new wave being released (I'm assuming one for each new "set" as usual). If you have an extra to sell, I'd be interested. Thanks for the input gang, now I know what to order in the future!
  8. I pre-ordered several multiples of each set of the new series' mates from AFX, in order to increase my chances of receiving at least one of the variants; so far in 2 shipments (one still to come) I have received NO variant. Just wondering if ordering through AFX hoping to get a variant is a trick-bag; Do they open all the cases and keep all the variants for themselves to sell at their huge variant mark-up??? Has anyone EVER received a variant from AFX just by ordering one or more sets in a "normal" order (ie: without paying their increased price and specifically ordering the variant)? I know they have the disclaimer that you can't "request" specific sets (meaning variant or not) but I still expected them to play fair. (Am I kidding myself there?) And, how many variants are released? Is it one per case? And if so, what does a 'case' consist of: the display box that holds 12 boxes of 'mates, or the larger cardboard box with all the display boxes in it? ('cuz if its the display box, I definitely should have rec'd a variant!) Figured someone has some inside info on this stuff...
  9. Yes, and it just makes it twice as expensive! I'm addicted to them too, just cuz they're so darn cute (what a 'girl' word!) but whereas I'm perfectly satisfied just to look at the little critters, I have to buy a second set for the little guy to play with (except for the obvious high-dollar collectible variants, exclusives, & such). Luckily, he's too young to realize there are *some* I'm holding out on him...b/c yes, he would just rip open a gold spidey and go to town on the bad guys! Plus he's satisfied just having one of each character...except for Wolverine, which is good news for AA, b/c I think my son is the ONLY one who's NOT tired of Wolverine and his 18 zillion variations by now! By the time he's old enough to realize he's got a really nice collection in the display case, he'll (hopefully) think I am ONE cool mom
  10. Boy, you just can't miss a DAY around here!!! That's the best custom I've seen yet, Lurch Way to go!!
  11. Its not that we hadn't ever been to MMC, just that (well, speaking personally) I'd already read all the reviews long ago (had to end up bookmarking the damn batcave...("%*&$^@#!"), and its been so long since new ones came out, I figured there wasn't much point in checking back (Sorry, Danny...I've seen the light!)..."we're not worthy...we're not worthy..................."
  12. Oh he did! Every time he turned around his eyes would light up again...there are lots more pix that wouldn't fit on my FTP webspace at the moment ...he took pix w/Wolverine, a Ghostbuster (with a really kick-ass homemade plasma ray gun!), Darth Vader & Boba Fett, A couple of stormtroopers, and another (!) Batgirl...(he really liked those batgirls) (Oddly enough, he also liked the karaoke room...should I be scared???) Plus the ORIGINAL Lois Lane was there (from the show I used to watch on Sat. Mornings as a kid--in black & white, no less!) So yeah, we had a blast! Thanks for looking
  13. Here are some pix from our first comic-con trip this weekend http://members.cox.net/colorado97/Micheal/indexComicCon.htm
  14. <--------------Hello! Chick who likes minimates here... Ok, yeah, I buy them for my kid (I think) , but I still think they're really cool...who else would buy them for him! Every time I spy any more boxes of them I HAVE to look and usually pick up one or two...and my hubby gives me that eye-rolling look (you all know the one...) :o
  15. Also, at least one member DID mention their spouse (in that case wife) wanting to do a cover, and was told to have her create her own posting ID due to only 1 submission per member. My husband was thinking about signing up too just to do one, unfortunately he won't have the time, since he's doing security for the comic-con this weekend. Heck, I'll be lucky to get mine finished! Even if these 2 are roommates, I would think that would fall under the same guidelines. (Although, I personally would be worried having a roomie with a 'mate addiction...had enough trouble in college keeping them out of my clothes & food...but the 'mates...BACK OFF!) LoL ...luckily my 'mate affliction only arrived with the 3rd birthday of my boy child...
