  1. It is getting almost impossible to find old variants at reasonable prices. On the one hand it seems like a good sign that minimates are getting more and more popular, which is good for the line, and on the other it seems like crazy prices would drive off potential new collectors, which is not so good... I got heavy into Minimates pretty much just this last year or so, so I can tell you that a few HTF pieces that you have to pay $$$ for is not that bad. Most Minimates are so easy to come by for reasonable prices, that you can save on them and put them towards the more expensive pieces. Really, it's only the variants, Power Man & Iron Fist, Classic & SC Iron Man, the Super Skrull, and Nightcrawler that are really cost prohibitive. It's a good wagon to jump on.
  2. I *think* it's probably Hawkeye, because he's just about my favorite character, and his 'mate is just about perfect. Though actually, most of my quick customs are the ones I feel the most affinity towards. Makes me feel all creative. My most valuable (at least the one I paid the most for) is a black suit Spidey.
  3. God, somebody lock this thread before it's too late....
  4. Off the top of my head: -Black Suit Spidey (sigh....) -Black Suit Spider-Woman -J. Jonah Jameson. BTW, I stuck his "mask" on a different head and put that on the body of 24 series two's George Mason. Looks very cool. Someday I'll get around to taking and posting pictures of these things. Those are about the only ones I'd want. I'd get an Angel if it had the classic look (short hair and the mask-like thing he wears), but he doesn't so I didn't. I'm glad that DST seems to be following the DCD model more of including hair pieces and the like for unmasking, rather then making these variants.
  5. Captain Marvel Mockingbird ... that's all I've got. I haven't read the book since issue one. Yellowjacket? Jarvis?
  6. So I guess we can officially say that no, no one thinks this is too many Iron Men. I bend to the masses! I'm still not buying all of them, though. For the record, my objection wasn't to the amount of Iron Men, but the amount in such a short period of time. But I do agree that he lends himself much better to multiple figures then just about any other character in comics, unless you count "Green Lantern" as one. So rock on Iron Man!
  7. I didn't know that either, but it makes sense since they sell loose 'mates. I also tend to only want one version of a character, which is why I will often buy 'mates loose. It's usually not very expensive per 'mate, and that way I can avoid being stuck with extras.
  8. One thing I would recommend, if you don't do so already, is to sell your unwanted things on eBay. The nice thing is that you can build up a nice Paypal balance and then buy stuff using that, so in essence you're "trading". It makes it a lot easier to justify expenditures to your wife (and yourself!).
  9. Wait, the Rocketeer?! That will be my first Kubrick then.
  10. My three choices have all been named-- Lost, Arrested Development, MST3K. How about... Curb Your Enthusiasm? No, wait, Flight of the Concords. That would be cool.
  11. They could make Spider-Man dressed up as Deadpool and Gambit....
  12. Well, I guess they shut me up about Iron Man... I accept that, to get the Spidey villains we want, we'll have to sit through a few more Spideys. They're not going to release a wave of Spidey villains without him. It sure makes that Spidey box set (with only one new baddie, and Hydro-Man at that), seem more like a huge wasted opportunity. But, whatever, you had me at Shocker.
  13. Your comment was "that it was an awful lot of space to devote to one character" I just showed you that Spidey has had the same amount if not more space devoted to him. So it's ok to flood with the same figure if it's someone who is 'universally popular' rather than 'currently popular'? - should DST stop producing anyone but Spiderman in this case? I know there are a lot of IM mates about to hit... but the mates are a lot better than some of the labored Spidey mates we've seen ( how many half dressed P.Parker mates do we need?) . As I said post wave 23 I suspect we wont be seeing any IM stuff for a while. T. I would not say that it's "okay" to keep making Spider-men (or Spidey- related characters) but it sure makes sense. Personally, I find it frustrating that we have Minimates of the Scarlett Spider, Ben Reilly and Iron Spidey but not the Black Panther, Captain Marvel, or the Red Skull, but that's just me. I understand that any Marvel based toy line will inevitably cater to Spidey and the X-Men. Unfortunately. In any event, the issue isn't really how many Iron Man Minimates there are overall, but how many are being rlease within this calender year. Did we ever see 15 Spidey or X-Men related figures in a calender year (that's not snark, BTW, I'm really asking). Heck, I also think two Captain Americas in one year is too much, but that's just me. That would be awesome! How about: -WCA Hawkeye (with long sleeves) -Kate Bishop ...okay, I'm out too. The Swordsman maybe? Oddball?
  14. Yes, but Spider-Man is Spider-Man, meaning that he is one of the most universally popular characters in all media. Iron Man has largely been several rungs down the ladder. It's kind of like comparing the amount of Batman and Superman toys made to Flash and Green Lantern; they just aren't as universally popular.
  15. I like Iron Man as much as anyone, and I know that the character's profile, between Civil War and the movie, has never been higher, but does anyone else think DST's gone a little nuts on the Iron Man related Minimates this year? Let's count how many their are for 2008.... The Civil War box set saw the release of modern Iron Man (1). Then we learn of the Classic Avengers box, with a gold Iron Man (1). Of course, there's the entire movie wave (7), and the two Iron Man characters (War Machine and Spymaster) in wave 23 (2). And finally, there's the SDCC exclusive box set (4). 1+1+7+2+4= 15!!! And that's not including the WM variant with the Tony Stark head! Obviously, the number of different unique costumes Iron Man has sported makes him a valuable asset to any toy line. And, of course, not every figure is Iron Man himself. But that seems like an awful lot of space to devote to one character, when there are so many other characters crying out to be 'mated. Personally, I'm probably going to be skipping the box set, though I may pick up a "pointy mask" loose. I'm curious if anyone else feels the same.
  16. If you get a chance, could you possibly post some pics at some point? I'm a Krypto fan, so I'm curious to see what he looks like, but I haven't been able to find any googling, looking on eBay, etc. Yes, I should be able to tonight. Sorry, I meant to snap some photos yesterday....
  17. I picked up the Superman one for one reason... he comes with Krypto the Superdog! Perfectly sized to stand next to Minimate Supes. There's some other accessories and stuff that look good for 'mates, particularly the Batcopter. Hopefully the line will expand to other characters and we'll get some cool Green Lantern constructs and other stuff.
  18. I mentioned this in the other DC 8 thread running: I used the shirt & tie torso from a BSG Wave 2 Gaius Baltar. For the hat I simply used the hait/hair piece from Rocky II's Tiger Jacket Rocky. It's not 100% perfect, since the hat is cocked on his head, but I'm really happy with it. In fact, I'd used this formula to make a custom Question months ago, and just swapped out the other parts for the androgynous Montoya parts. I'll try to post pics soon.
  19. Can you buy the upcoming exclusive box sets there?
  20. I have thought from his first appearance in the toon that JLU Question was a not-so-lightly-veiled nod to Rorschach (who, of course, was initially supposed to be, and was heavily based upon, the original, 1960s Question). I mean, the episode was called "Fearful Symmetry." Until recently, though, post-Watchmen Question was never an important DCU character in the comics, from what I have seen (apart from a mini-series or two). So, any substantial character development probably happened in the last few years. The JLU Question is not all that different from the comics version: Steve Ditko created him as a crusading reporter that never backs off a story (with the Question persona being a means to an end); Denny O'Neil expanded upon this in his excellent 1980's series (currently being reprinted!) that cast Sage as a man constantly "asking questions". The cpnspiracy theorist in JLU is a pretty logical extension of this character. Incidently, JLU created a lot of new Question fans, and he was really poised to be the breakout character from 52. So what did they do? They killed him. Brilliant.
  21. Both of these are very very nice. Good work.
  22. You have good taste in indy comics and 'mates, sir. Add in the Rocketeer and we're good to go.
  23. Way way way cool. I love the wide character selection. I'm going to try out a Rocketeer for me and a Strongbad for the wife.
  24. For the love of God, don't pull it!!!! You can't say "no one" just because you don't. I don't either, if that helps his cause.
  25. Couldn't have said it any better (except that I don't have a nephew). Although, ironically, I kinda hate the Batman figure in a similar style that was part of DC Universe Classics Wave 1.
