  1. Did anyone actually get these? I know that they still have a ship date of 4/8 on DST's web site, but they were nowhere to be found on Diamond's weekly shipping lists, nor were they in my store. This is the same thing that happened to me with the last Marvel wave. You would think the company OWNED BY THE ONLY DISTRIBUTOR would be able to get their ship dates right, wouldn't you?
  2. I think those voters should be given another shot. The polls are still open, so why not? If anything, it may give us that much more ammunition for the winning box set.
  3. I don't disagree with the "we should be thankful for what we're getting" sentiment BUT I don't think that means that we shouldn't voice our displeasure. Particularly when it comes to an exclusive, which by it's nature is going to have a smaller production run and be geared towards the collector rather than the casual buyer. In my mind, the upcoming Champions box set is the perfect exclusive, and seems very much in touch with collector's desires. The Dark Avengers set is a step backwards. Furthermore, I think DST/AA is running a real risk of overexposing the core Marvel characters of Spider-Man, Wolverine, Iron Man, Hulk, and Captain America. By relying on these same few characters over and over in a short period of time, DST risks burning their core base (us!) out on these characters. Hey, I accept that there will always be more Spider-Man Minimates on the way. He's Spider-Man. But constantly shoehorning these few characters into each new wave or set doesn't give us a chance to miss them.
  4. Yes, and I personally was completely disappointed that the Civil War set included those characters instead of, say, Speedball or Captain Marvel. Same thing with Wolverine's inclusion in the Secret Invasion box set. I'm not saying they won't look nice in the end, but the character selection is still poor.
  5. Sorry, but this set really bites. A SDCC exclusive set should be a chance to make characters that wouldn't do as well at retail. So what do we get? More Iron Man, Wolverine, and Spider-Man variations. And Marvel Boy becomes a Minimate before Captain Marvel. Bah.
  6. I did not think of Juggernaut when I was doing my list here earlier, but he's the perfect choice. Now that the Goblin and Doom are done, he's the mate that most needs an update. Please disregard Powerhouse Rhino from my post above and substitute Powerhouse Juggernaut.
  7. Not really. It's funny, because I really like them on the Thing, but on the Hulk they just look terrible. He's going to win worst figure of the year, I can already sense it. I dunno what's been going on with the Hulks recently, but this is several in a row now that are just not very good, with the last successful Hulk being (IMHO) the Defenders box Hulk. I understand that AA is trying hard to work around the size restrictions and give him some mass, but it's just not working.
  8. It's a good idea, and I agree it's different from the AFX survey. So.... Heroes: -Thor is his current outfit; -The Thing in a more Mike Weringo style (with long pants); -A new Human Torch; -The Black Panther (I know he's not a major player, but he is having a cartoon out soon). Villains: -Girl Loki (or the Enchantress!); -Powerhouse Rhino; -Baron Zemo (I know he doesn't match up with anyone, but whatever); - And of course... Kang, dammit! KANG!!!!! BTW, if you do Electro-shock Spidey, shouldn't you also do, y'know, Electro?
  9. I'm kind of on the fence about the Ultimates. Much as I liked the Millar/Hitch books, I never really felt the need to have action figures of them. Guess there's no nostalgia. I hope the Hulk and that soldier are coming together, so I can avoid that pack entirely. But the Wolverine wave is terrific. I know a lot of you have waited a long time for Gambit, Psylocke, Sabretooth and Deadpool (I'm not a fan of any of those characters, and even I think they are ridiculously overdue), but seeing how well they turned out makes the wait worth it.
  10. Normally it would be, but I think those two can pass reasonably for their comic book counterparts.
  11. Stopped by my local TRU last night and didn't find anything, but I may make a quick run down to another one tonight. Must... have... Union... Jack....
  12. Thanks for doing all this, Bob; I hope it turns out to be worth it!
  13. Wow! It's only March, and it looks like we have the winner of the "Best Custom" for next year's poll already!
  14. So I just did the Black Manta thing... well, except for the fact that my superglue seems to have dried up! But he looks awesome. Not hard at all either, although sawing the neck off a Minimate is more work than a quick customizer like me is used to. I guess the one bright side about the end of DC Minimates is that you know your custom won't be replaced by an official one!
  15. Yes! I just scrolled down to to bottom of the page to ask that question. Okay, it's all reused from others. But that's the point of Taskmaster!!!!
  16. I guess this really can't be considered "beating a dead horse" since this is a legitimate mystery... wasn't it iron-Cow or somebody who said he knew who they were but just wasn't allowed to say so because of DCD? I kinda like karamazov's guess (I'm almost POSITIVE they'd do Martian Manhunter), but I'm hoping they would've at LEAST put in some of Batman's most iconic villains in too (like Mr. Freeze, Two-face or Poison Ivy). Oh, and maybe Black Canary too, though that seems highly unlikely. Thanks... that's why I asked the question in the first place! I just wanted to know if it had ever come out. I'm pretty sure that we would have seen at least one classic Bat villain paired with modern (red pants) Robin. Two Face would have been my guess. And I think we would have gotten Solomon Grundy as an oversize 'mate, probably with Alan Scott. And I think we would have gotten Martian Manhunter with another JLAer, either Black Canary, Firestorm or Zatanna. Sigh. Get yourself a Black Manta Pocket Hero and a black blank, cut the neck peg off and glue the Manta head/oxygen tank on. Perfect Mini-Manta. I did that. Got a picture of it, too. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=3143...amp;id=70302941 Okay, that looks really good. I'm doing that.
  17. That's what I thought too (and why I didn't start a new thread). So I guess the question is: How many of us will be getting these re-release two-packs? Has there been any word on when these will be released? I can't recall. Who is going to be buying multiples of Wolverine to make an army of X-men? I won't be. I wasn't planning of getting the heroes set anyway, since I have no real need for new versions of any of those characters. My only worry is that TRU won't be carrying the box sets now, which seems like a real shame if that's the case.
  18. For me, it was really the DC Minimates that pushed me over the top. I'd picked up a couple Marvel guys, and a couple C3 sets, But it was the DC 'mates that got me to commit hard core. And now I've got a whole raging collection, and guess what? No more DC Minimates....
  19. Remember when DC Direct broke all our hearts and decided not to do any more DC Minimates last year? Sure you do. Anyway, they (or Art Asylum) said that they had designed two more waves, but they weren't being produced. Was it ever revealed who those were? Anyone have any idea? Am I just setting myself up to be depressed by asking?
  20. Who are you talking about anyway? Yeah, apparently my brain has been running on a dismal logic capacity lately so for all intents and purposes I'll just say I liked the whole TPB. (Standout chapters for me though were the ones centered on Triton and the young Inhumans and "Window to the Soul.") I'm lousy at reading comics. That was Paul Jenkins. It was a pretty good series. However, you should look for "Son of M" and "Silent War" which are de facto Inhumans books by David Hine, and are terrific.
  21. Yeah, I've only ever seen them in with the Marvel Superhero stuff. I keep hoping to find some Trek mates, but no such luck so far.
  22. I'm with her. I only knew there was a Johnny Blaze character, in the comics and in the movie, and that he looked like that, and that at one point Punishher and Venom and GR all teamed up. Beyond that, I care little for a C list hero, and am just happy to have a mate or two of him. He's got a skull. He's on fire. Cool. What more is there? Also, if what you say is true and Johnny came back, and now wears a costume like that, who's to say that that ISN'T modern Johnny? So if you don't know anything about Ghost Rider, and don't care about him, why are you stating as "fact" that a Classic Ghost Rider Minimate has been made?
  23. Well, that makes sense, actually, because Toy Fair is designed for companies to sell toys to retail outlets, so they wouldn't bring product that already has an exclusive home.
  24. When did Urban Outfitters start carrying toys? I've lived by several in my time, and I've never seen toys there (outside of novelty toys). Anyway, $14 a pack?! No thanks.
  25. I don't believe they put in a release date... I never actually buy Toyfare, but just flip through it in the shop. Isn't that what it's there for?
