I’m betting that the difference for Transformers and Joe is that, as a property, Transformers is more widely liked than GI Joe.
Numbers alone, Transformers has had multiple billion dollar films and it’s rare that a Transformers show isn’t running on some network.
Joe on the other hand has had two commercial failures and, I believe, one modest success that led nowhere. There hasn’t been a GI Joe cartoon since somewhere around 2011 it seems (and even then that looks like was a miniseries.)

People who give a fuck about GI Joe *REALLY* give a fuck about GI Joe. But it’s more of a pure nostalgia property than a living ongoing brand. Maybe that’ll change with the next one, but that’s going to be a Transformers crossover. So Joe just can’t seem to stand on his own.

The minimates kick fucking ass though. I don’t give much of a fuck about GI Joe (despite liking Retaliation a lot) but even I think I’m gonna crack and buy the damn minimates soon.

Yeah, I think this is a good read. I think we tend to conflate the two in our minds, but I think Transformers is significantly more popular.

  2. Cool, thanks. 🙂

AEW has such an impossibly deep roster. You could make a set just of people that have debuted (or will debut) this month and it would be awesome: Ospreay, Okada, Mercedes next week. Just an embarrassment of riches.

I'm considering making a Timeless Toni Storm black and white custom. There's definitely enough pieces in the Sin City line to start with, though I think a different hairpiece will be needed. More research must be done (hail Ivan).

Not going to lie, having a guy that's only been on AEW tv five times to sell Sting's retirement match, an energy drink and generic erection pills take a spot is a little disappointing. I know it's Flair and he's a legend just personally not a fan.  Danielson and Sting are the two of the set I definitely need.  Just hoping for someone like Swerve, Kingston, or Toni Storm.  Still a great set.

I agree with you, but I also totally understand Zach's point and if they can sell some extra sets and we get more AEW Minimates because of that, it will be a good thing.

    Many thanks

Whenever a new Marvel minimate figure is solicited I always think about whether it is 'deserved' .  That might sound a bit pompous of me & probably is but it works for me :D

Bullseye is deserved.  We've had 4 Bullseyes ( I wait for the response  "4?" ) & the last one was (apart from a zombie) 15 years ago !  It is expensive on eBay & was pretty rare even when it was released IMHO.   Good choice .

I have to agree that ...with my new found knowledge....a Bullseye army builder seems wishful thinking .

I am not up to speed on Echo as a character but a brief trawl of the internet reveals that her suit/uniform is hardly 'unique' &  I can think of several existing Minimates that 'would do the job' .

I do the same thing, especially now that we're getting so few Marvel Minimates compared to years past. On the other hand, I'm pretty far out of what's currently going on in Marvel Comics right now, so a character that *I* don't think deserves to be 'mated may be one that's actually pretty prominent right now.

  5. If anyone is still looking for these, they are being carried by Hasbro Pulse, and the Heroes set is part of their Season's Savings deal, so you can get 25% off your order (35% if you're a Pulse premium member, which I am not). This is the first time I've seen them carry Minimates, so I was pleasantly surprised to find this set as part of the sale.

I actually purchased one of these a while back:

The torso template that Luke created (thanks, Luke!) can be set to print almost to scale on this little machine through the app.

The prints can be a bit shiny but they are a lot easier to trim with much less waste than a full page of photo paper, especially if you're making one at a time.

And, the paper it does use is adhesive.

Oh that's a great idea. I'd love to hear more about it.
