  1. I thought that at first, but then I saw this: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...ER&v=glance Free shipping!! Honestly, I don't know what the heck is going on there. . .
  2. Perhaps another example of DST doing a little more than they need to with the Minimates (with the engraved words, etc.)? Look how well the sign works on the Pocket Super Hero Bizarro, with the words just printed on there:
  3. Spider-Spartan: I only have Halo Kubricks, but those guns fit well, anyway. . .
  4. They must not have sold too fantastically, as these are available from an Amazon.com seller for 72% off! http://www.amazon.com/Diamond-Comics-Distr...884&sr=1-38 What, you didn't pay 32 bucks per single pack when they first came out?
  5. I live in Louisiana, and they were available yesterday (those handles on S.T.R.I.P.E. are very cool, by the way, though I would trade it away in a second for a Golden Age Stripesy and Star Spangled Kid. . .).
  6. Given the movie, that's got to be the musical pocket watch with Mortimer's sister's picture in it. She shot herself rather than experiencing the pain of being raped and possibly killed by Indio, and ol' Indio waxes nostalgic by carrying her musical watch around. Its very touching. . . This gets me thinking, this would be the most awesome toy set ever (next to that Aliens Kubrick power loader deal) if DST provided a musical box like the recent GI Joes have, playing Ennio Morricone's theme.
  7. Now I guess I'll never get those shovels for my Minimates to dig trenches with. . .
  8. I just picked up three of the four new packs from the local comics shop (I had no interest in the Wonder Woman variant and manimal Cheetah). With the exception of S.T.R.I.P.E., who is just too unlike a Minimate to me, I love them. Bizarro and Superman are now standing upon my computer moniter. Also, that Blackhawk's face would be perfect for the Mini-GI Joe Flint custom I've been thinking about doing for a while. More money to spend. . . By the way, I seem to have bought the very last Blackhawk/Sgt. Rock pack in the store, whereas the others had a few more in stock. So, I guess its the most popular of the series, at least around these parts.
  9. Damn. In some sick way, I was actually glad that the prototype Bizarro face looked so bad. Now that the actual release pics come out, and he is beyond awesome, there is 7 more dollars that I should be saving for food. . .
  10. I saw the Racer X at Toys R Us last week, and it was on the very end of an aisle, facing the back wall of the store, hanging out with other random items that didn't fit in the regular aisles. He costed me $5, which wasn't exactly half price, but it was low enough (I passed on him and only got Speed earlier in the year b/c of the cost). Perhaps more importantly, though, I saw a couple of Darktide sets and Street Fighter 4-figure sets, which were $4 each a few weeks ago, going for $1.90 each (!) in some clearance baskets right inside TRU. That's less than .50 per figure!
  11. Those 3" Star Trek figures are exceptions in my mind, as well. I think McCoy's face is great there, but again, with the Star Trekkers, they have iconic outfits and guys like Spock and McCoy have faces that are easy to caricature on a Minimate. That's not always the case with real people (see the Back to the Future-Mates). I don't blame AA, I think they do what they can (and sometimes, as with the Tony Almeida pic, I think they hit a homerun), but there are certain constraints on these small, simple figures.
  12. Instead of a Megaman line, I would like to see a Nintendo 5-pack, with Megaman, Link, Simon Belmont, Samus, and Mario (or something along those lines; getting the licenses from Capcom and Konami, etc. might prove difficult). I think that the iconic nature of these characters would make for some great Minimates. Regarding the "real people" Minis, like Star Trek, 24, the proposed Heroes and Veronica Mars sets mentioned here, etc., I'm actually not such a big fan of these ideas. Though I think some of these figures work (like Spock), the Minimates seem far better suited to cartoon and comic book characters to me. I got the Back to the Future set the other day, and I only recognize Marty b/c of his iconic vest and hair, and Doc b/c of his hair. Biff looks like Eddie Brock to me and Lorraine just looks like a generic 50s girl, and I think this is the case for a lot of these figures (does anyone think the President Palmer figure looks right?). Again, just looking at the top of my page here, I think that Tony and Michelle from 24 series 2 look awesome, but overall. . .many misses.
  13. Those are the only two from this line that I plan on buying, but I really wish they would place more of a focus on some classic JSAers at the expense of some of these newbies. The "classic" Batman coming soon gives me hope.
  14. Those are great! Particularly, I like the Iceman slide effect, Kitty invisibly climbing up the building, and the wind effect around Storm in the X-Men diorama. That's some clever stuff. Also, based on his positioning and poses in these pictures, my interest regarding this Sentry character is piqued (I am an old school comics fan, and haven't kept up with Marvel in several years, so I don't know much about him). He always seems to be cringing in a corner somewhere. . . Seeing these pics, though, I'm curious what kinds of blocks fit into the Minis feet? Are these all from C3 sets, or do Legos or some other kinds of feet-peg-sizes work as well?
  15. Yesterday I went to my local comics shop and picked up the BTTF Minis, and noticed as I was checking out that the Daredevil/Giant Man Zombie packs were on sale for 5 bucks! So, since I was splurging anyway, I got that and the Wonderman and She-Hulk pack. Now I'm thinking about getting a another Zombie pack to attempt a custom, regular Giant Man. . .
  16. I have never bought any Kubricks, though the MGS and Muppets figures have attracted my interest now and again. . .but there is one Kubrick-related item that I think I absolutely have to have. It is crazy expensive, but. . .well, I think its one of the most awesome toys that I've seen in a long time: http://www.hlj.com/product/MED30108 "Get away from her you bitch!" They definitely need to get the Colonial Marines crew, "Game over man, game over!"
  17. I actually can't believe they have gone this long without him. He's got to be coming in the next line or two that they announce. . .
  18. Thanks! Regarding the place here in BR, There are a few statues there but not many, and I don't know if their prices are reasonable or not (I'm not into busts so I haven't paid attention). I know they have a huge Wolverine head, and for a while they had Dr. Doom on his throne, but he may have been sold. Just a few things there on display, really. In terms of those kinds of things, the place to go in Baton Rouge is this shop on Sherwood Forest (not far off of the I-12 exit). Can't remember the name of it, but the last time I went there (which was months ago, admittedly), they had loads of statues, busts, that sort of thing. Though again, I have no idea if they were expensive or not.
  19. Baton Rouge only has three options that I know of, and the only one I ever really go to (i.e. the one that gets Minimates) is called "School of Comics." If any of you are passing through, despite the fact that its quaint, you could do worse. Friendly people tend to work here, though like all comic shops, the prices tend to be a little high. Shanester, which shop do you go to in N.O.? I used to go to a couple around there from time to time when I was a kid living on the Westbank, and I would be curious to stop by the "good one" at some point. The only one I go to around New Orleans nowadays is that place off of Veterans near Lakeside, which I probably go to once or twice a year. I remember that guy in the wheelchair was running another comic store when I was much younger. . .
  20. I just googled and found this: http://www.toywiz.com/c3julemifipl4.html
  21. I think that 24 is a show where a more a typical, 4-5 inch action figure release would make a lot of sense. However, given that the bulk of that show's audience is of the adult variety, maybe the powers that be think these kinds of things wouldn't sell too well except to collectors, hence only statues and Minimates being made, targeted toward a niche audience instead of the regular figs that might be targeted to a mass Toys R Us crowd. Personally, I got burned out due to the redundancy and staleness of 24 after season 4 or so, but after seeing these pics. . .of course, I'm going to have to get them. I'm definitely getting box set 2, as well. Tony Almeida and Michelle Dessler, hell yeah! They look perfect! Though those sunglasses on Jack. . .I don't know. So here's an important question: which of your Minimates will Jack torture first? Doc Brown did steal plutonium, but Captain America disobeyed the government during that whole Civil War thing. . .choices, choices
  22. Regarding Deadwood, I would be really curious to see someone trying to pull off Swearengen (the only essential Deadwood Mate to be made, in my opinion). He's got such a distinctive, detailed face, that I'm not sure how it would work in Minimates form. Maybe Biff from the BTTF line 2 + facial hair and a custom 'do? Still not enough lines. . . As for Trixie and the other whores of the Gem, just get a bunch of Minis of Emma Frost and Scarlet Witch, change their color, hair, and faces up a bit, and there you go, whores!
  23. I'm going to have to get 2 sets so that I can try out some classic western customs. I need Liberty Valence, Shane, and Harmonica Minis, for starters.
  24. I've got a few grails that I've had for a while, and foremost among them are: a MEGO Speedy in good condition, a yellow shirt Zoot from the Palisades Muppets line, the DC Direct Classic Heroes Blue Beetle (seems like a lifetime that this son of a bitch has eluded me. . .), a complete G1 or reissue TF Hound (sounds pretty easy to get, but I've run into so many hurdles trying to get this bad boy), and most recently, that damned Nightcrawler Minimate. He's just too damn cool, and so damn hard to find nowadays. . .
  25. If they just had a DVD feature that let you delete awful, out of character, waste of framespace, scenes.......I'd be a happy camper . neo I have mentioned this twice on these board already, so I don't want to, y'know, beat a dead horse. But that kind of cheap, juvenile, mind-numbing crap meant to play down to the absolute lowest common denominator (see also the extremely racist stereotype of a black character in the TF movie played by Anthony Anderson) epitomizes all that Michael Bay is about to me. And ultimately, Bay's many, many drawbacks far overwhelm any positives that the movie brought to the table, in my mind. Sure, he can make stuff blow up, but that's not all there is to action, and that certainly is scarcely enough to make up for the fact that he doesn't understand drama, timing, comedy, or human behavior generally. Using slow motion all the time does not, in itself, mean that you are creating drama. I will take accidental, but well-meant, cheese like Hollow Man, an Ed Wood movie, or Costner's the Postman over empty, pretentious, corporate garbage like Pearl Harbor or Transformers any day of the week. . .but, you know, different strokes for different folks.
