  1. I picked up my Galactus yesterday. He does seem awful small for the $70 I paid for him, but he is truly cool. He looks great standing in the collection with all of the other FF minis. I'll have to wait until next paycheck to pick up the Sentinel, but he's there waiting for me too...

I really wish that they had stuck to the original release schedule for these. When I ordered them, they were supposed to come out in seperate months... Not two at a time... Oh well...

  2. Thanks guys. Always appreciate the feedback.

jcastick - They're not for my collection. I haven't made a minimate for myself all year...

My entire catalog of work is now posted. I've also included all nine of the new figures that I've got. They can be seen in this lovely shade of Purple. I've also included the Sorceress figure that I built for the CVC this year.

Hope that you all like the new figures. Feedback is always appreciated.

  3. Marvel Comics

    - My first Custom Minimate: Moon Knight. (Repainted Mini Body with a modified Dr. Doom cloak & Daredevil billy club)

    - Second to come: Iceman was done not long after I found the Clear Frodo figure. (Blue-tint Twilight Frodo with an Ultimate Cyclops belt)

    - Next we have Cloak & Dagger. Some classic characters that I loved as a child. (*Dagger - Repainted Mini Body with fully sculpted hair and bracelets & Clear Poly Light Dagger accessory. *Cloak - Repainted Mini Body with fully sculpted cloak)

    - I've always really liked Namor the Sub-Mariner. I had to make him, just to keep Sue Storm company on those long nights... (Repainted Mini Body with fully sculpted hair and a trident made from Lego spears)

    - It's a shame that the license doesn't allow for vehicles. Some characters really do need something to ride on. Ghost Rider's Bike is a definate. Once I found the Lego motorcycle, it was only a matter of a new fairing and some flaming wheels. (Lego 4+ Police Motorcyle with a scratch built fairing and sculpted flaming wheels)

    - I've always been fond of Havok's original costume. The cool headgear and the simple logo really made the character unique. (Repainted Mini Body with scratch built helmet)

    - Original Iron Man was a must-do. AA made a great figure, but I always prefered it in the gold. (Repainted Classic Iron Man Mini)

    - As soon as I saw Blade: Trinity I knew that I wanted to do some Nightstalker Minis. Hannibal King and Abigail Whistler were really the only redeeming things about the movie. I had to make a Kris Kristopherson Whistler to go with them. (*Hannibal King - Repainted Mini Body with fully sculpted hair. Scratch built Vest & Right Holster. Assault Punisher Left Holster. BBI Elite Force Pistols. *Abigail Whistler - Repainted Mini Body with re-tooled right arm & fully sculpted hair. Scratch built quiver. Cut down GI Joe Bow. *Whistler - Repainted Mini Body with fully sculpted hair. Cut-down New X-Men Wolverine Jacket for the vest. Cut-down BBI Elite force shotgun.)

    - The last Spider-Man variant that anyone needs: Spider-Ham! I was bored... (Repainted Masked Spider-Man with sculpted snout & cut plastic ears)

    - Here is my entry for the Custom Contest: Apocalypse. I used a LOTR 2.5" Minimate, and scratch built all of the armor. (Repainted 2.5" Mini body. Scratch built chest piece, gauntlets, belt, boots & weapon arm)

    - Everyone's favorite British psychic lass turned Asian psychic ninja: Psylocke. Part one of my Custom-A-Day Event... (Repainted Mini Body with fully sculpted hair. Scratch built "Psionic Knife" and sash. Retooled LOTR sword)

    - The Fourth figure in my Custom-A-Day Event... Ms. Marvel. I'm really happy with the way that she turned out... Almost wish I could keep her for myself... (Repainted Mini Body. Repainted Phoenix hair. Scratch built sash.)

    - Beezelbub, Satan, The Darkness, Mephisto... Whatever you call him, he's evil. He's not the Devil from the Bible, but he does rule a fiery dimension that he calls Hades. I'm really happy with this figure. I think that I've captured the character pretty good. (Repainted Mini Body. Fully sculpted hair. Scratch built loin cloth. Modified Demitri cape.)

    - Gladiator, leader of the Shi?ar Imperial Guard, has battled both the X-Men and the Fantastic Four. I'm quite pleased with this figure. I really like the way that his uniform turned out. (Repainted Mini Body. Scratch built Mohawk. Modified Demitri cape.)

    - I don't know anything about Quasar. He was a commission, and I only had one picture to go off of. I think that he turned out pretty good. (Repainted Mini body. Fully sculpted hair. Reworked Justice Lords Superman gauntlets. Modified Demitri cape... Gods, I do love that cape...)

    - Perhaps more powerful than the Hulk, definately more intelligent, Abomination seems to be everyones most wanted Hulk villain. This was another commission, and I'm pretty happy with the way he turned out. In person, the figure is darker than the pictures turned out. (Repainted Mini body. Recast Big Chest attachment. Modified Thing brow.)

    - We need Ultimates Minimates! There, I've said it. Even if we do get them, Giant Man could only be done in the 2" scale. Here he is how he should be done: 3" of Mini-Goodness. I'm very happy with the end results here. I painted this guy three times before I got a Maroon that I was happy with. (Repainted Mini body. Scratch built helmet.)

    - Leader of the Inhumans, Blackbolt cannot ever speak for fear of leveling everything around him. This was another commission, and the little guy that destroyed my thumb. In spite of all of that, I'm very happy with the way that he turned out. (Repainted Mini body. Recast Cap gloves. Recast and Reworked Flash Mask. Scratch built cape.)

    - The Horsemen of the Apocalypse were another set of commissions. I've been working on the group of them since January, and finally got around to finishing up Archangel. I rebuilt the wings twice. Wasn't very happy with the first set. Like the Sorceress figure, they're articulated a bit. After I built Sorceress, I went back and redid the attachment for 'Angel's wings like I did for hers. Originally, I had them as a "jacket" that slipped over the top of the torso. I think that the newer way works much better. (Repainted Mini body. Scratch built mask. Scratch built wings.)

    - One of the AOA Horsemen: Abyss, is a character that I really had a hard time with. I had originally wanted to do him out of a clear figure, but felt that the banding really didn't stand out enough. I repainted a regular figure light blue and redid the banding on top of that. For the extened arms, I took some sheet plastic and cut it into strips. Then using the ol' Toaster Oven of Doom! ?, I heated that up and twisted it around a rod until I got the shape that I wanted. I'm pretty happy with the end results on this guy. I think that he turned out quite well for a character that's only got like six panels of appearance. (Repainted Mini body. Fully sculpted hair. Scratch built extendo arm coils.)

    - Another AOA Horsemen: Holocaust was a bit of a challenge. In the comics, this guy is HUGE! I started with a 3" figure. I scratch built the entire chest/shoulder pad piece to help bulk up the figure. My wife donated (She doesn't know it yet) a cap from some hairspray for the dome. Under that is a Repainted Ghost Rider head on a stick. Yet another charcter with very little appearances in the comics, but I think he turned out quite nicely. (Repainted 3" Mini body. Scratch built chest / shoulder pads. Scratch built boots, gauntlet, and holey-arm-thingy.)

    - The last Horsemen, and brother to Colossus is Mikhail Rasputin. Out of all of the AOA Hosemen, he was the hardest to find art for. He only showed up in like four or five panels of X-Men Universe (I think that was the book). I'm very happy with the results here. I just love the way that he turned out. He's probably my favorite of the Horsemen that I did. (Repainted Mini body. Scratch built belt. Reworked Wolverine boots. Recast and Reworked Cap gloves. Hair accessories for the tubing.)

    - Rounding out the Apocalypse series here is Mr. Sinister. All said and done, I know nothing about this character now-a-days. I haven't read an X-book for over a decade, so I'm a little lost continuity-wise. I used to love the character. He always seemed cool to me. Always lurking in the shadows, pushing people to do things. Regardless, I'm very happy with how the figure turned out. At least we know AA would never give us a cape that cool. (Repainted Mini body. Scratch built shoulderpad / chest / cape piece. Recast Assault Punisher hairpiece.)

As a bonus, here's the whole gang, with Ady's Apocalypse figure looking over in the background.

-Everyone needs at least one old person on their shelf. Aunt May here was fun to make. Now I'm just a Ms. Lion short and I've got the whole cast... (Repainted Mini body. Recast & reworked Dr. Doom skirt. Modified New X-Men Wolverine jacket. Fully sculpted hairpiece.)

    - Here is a quick update to the Havok figure that I built awhile back. The original mask broke, so that gave me a good reason to revisit this one. I'm much happier with the new mask. I dig the silver part a lot better than on the original. (Scratch built helmet)

-CFAD3 - Day 2 - Day 2's figure is probably my most requested custom... You build one for a guy, and everybody wants one... For the Apocalypse: Version 2 figure, I went back and redid a lot of the parts to be more rounded. I also replaced all of the dark blue with black. I couldn't be happier with the way that old Fishlips turned out here. (Repainted 2.5" Mini body. Scratch-built shoulder pads, gauntlets, belt & boots.)

-CFAD3 - Day 5 - Today's figure I confess to knowing nothing about. He's one of Galactus's heralds, that's about all I know of him... Airwalker does have a pretty cool look to him, though. A sort of Billy Zane coolness. I'm completely happy with how the figure turned out. For a character that I don't even know, I've developed a fondness... (Repainted Mini body. Recast and Reworked Big Chest & Doom skirt. Recast Cap gloves. Scratch-built helmet and fiery wings.)

-CFAD3 - Day 6 - Today, Terrax the Tamer shows his ugly head. Once a herald of Galactus, this guy got his ass handed to him by Squirrel Girl once. He's got a big ax, and seems to always be drawn by Byrne no matter who draws him. I think he also tussled with the New Warriors for a bit... I don't know too much about these guys... I do like the way the figure turned out, though... (Repainted Mini body. Scratch-built head gear, shoulder pads, belt, gauntlets, boots and ax.)

-CFAD3 - Day 7 - Day 7's figure, Firelord was another herald of Galactus, after Airwalker was killed. He's got so much cosmic flame, that it's just pouring out the top of his head... I'm pretty happy with the way that these guys turned out, but I don't really know too mucha about them... Here's a picture of the whole "family". (Repainted Mini body. Human Torch head piece. Scratch built Flame staff.)

    - We've got X-Men: The Last Stand Minimates coming. Long before that announcement, I got a commission to make a movie version of Nightcrawler. Yeah, he wasn't in the third movie, but he was in the video game. This figure is based off of his appearance there. I really did have a blast making this guy. All of the detail in his coat, pants & vest were really fun to paint. (Repainted Mini body. Fully sculpted hair. Modified Jean Grey Trench. Scratch built belt, pant flares. Recast hands and feet.)

    - One of my favorite books from the last year had definately been Vaughan & Martin's Doctor Strange: The Oath. When I get excited about something, I tend to make MiniMates of them. Doctor Strange here is a figure that I've wanted to do for awhile, but just never got around to. When I decided to do the Oath figures, I knew that I wanted to make them as close to the artist style as possible. I couldn't be happier with the way that Strange turned out. (Repainted Mini body. Recast and Reworked Demitri cape. Recast and Reworked Doom skirt. Fully sculpted hair. Scratch built hands.)

    - One of the main characters from The Oath is Bendis' Night Nurse . I've always loved the character ever since she showed up in Daredevil awhile back. Again, I used the actual art from the book for the face. I love the figure, and I know that there will never be an official one, so... (Repainted Mini body. Recast and Reworked Demitri cape. Recast and Reworked Doom skirt. Fully sculpted hair.)

    - What's a guy to do with a ton of extra Captain America figures? Turn one of them into U.S.Agent. I like the way the figure turned out, even if I really don't know anything about the character, other than he replaced Cap for awhile... (Repainted Mini body. Repainted Captain America mask, gloves and shield. Scratch built boot tops.)

    - I've finally gotten the first "production model" of Onslaught completely finished. I reworked him a bit from the WIP that I posted awhile back. All-in-all, I'm very happy with the way that he's turned out. He's built on a 3" Mini, and is massive. Definately the biggest 'Mate I've ever done. I build an extra thick belt piece to give him a bit more height, and I think it works out alright... (Repainted 3" Mini body. Scratch built boots, gauntlets, chestpiece & belt. Recast and Modified Magneto helmet. 5 Piece Limited Run.

Cosmic Spider-Man was a fun figure to make. The figure represents the time that The Uni-Power, an extra-dimensional force that possesses an individual in a time of crisis, transforming that person into Captain Universe, took over Spider-Man as its host. I started with an ECCC blank, and went from there. I had originally wanted to do the silver portions of the costume in chrome, but it didn't take to the blank very well. (Repainted Mini body. Scratch built power bursts.)

-A few figures ago, I posted the X-Men 3 Nightcrawler. Today, I've got the X2 Nightcrawler. I think I like the way this one turned out more. The bellbottoms were alot of fun to paint, and really help the figure to stand out better. Also, I shortened the fingers on the hands to make them a little stubbier. (Repainted Mini body. Fully sculpted hair. Modified, recast Assault Punisher Trench and hands. Recast feet.)

    - My entry to the Villian Mate contest was a much needed figure from the Spider-man Movies... Since the license only allows for SM3 figures, that means we'll never get a Movie Green Goblin without making him ourselves. I had a blast making this figure. I like to challenge myself, and this figure was quite a challenge. I scratchbuilt the helmet and the glider, and heavily modified a recast big chest. I love the way that the figure turned out, and am honored that I won the contest with this figure. (Repainted Mini body. Scratchbuilt helmet and glider. Modified, recast Big Chest. Assault Batman belt.)

    - All credit for this idea goes to AmazingJL... He said that he was toying around with an idea for a Spidey-Sense Spider-man, and I took his idea and ran with it. I think that the figure turned out really cool. It doesn't look near as good in the pictures as it does in person, but that's the main draw-back to the clear figures - they're hard to photograph. I spent a lot of time recreating the tampo design from the original Spider-Man figure, and that's all this really took. I want to make a clear acrylic headpiece that represents the little squiggily lines of the Spidey-Sense, but at this point I am unsure how to attach it... There's no hole in the head of the clear figure... If I figure out how to do it, I'll post updated pics. (Repainted Mini body.)

-Since I already had the Spidey tampo recreated, I decided that the only way I would ever own Gold and Silver Spider-men was to make them myself... Nothing too major or exciting here, just custom duplicates of some of the rarest Minimates ever made... (Repainted Mini bodies.)

    - From Annihilation, I've got the new Nova. Endowed with all of the power of the Nova Corp, this guys pretty tough. This guy was a blast to make. Lots of details and a really cool costume. It's a little dark in the pictures, but the suit is actually a dark blue & metallic gold. (Repainted Mini body. Heavily modified Magneto helmet, Big Chest, New X-men Cyclops belt, and Ryu bracers. Scratch built boots)

    - I know there's alot of debate about this new Captain America costume that Alex Ross designed... Personally, I like it. It keeps with the "feel" of the classic, but seems a bit more like armor. I hate the super-shiny aspect of it, though. The Minimate wouldn't really work with all of that detail on it anyway... Too much going on, so I left it alone. (Repainted Mini body. Modified Big-Chest recast. Modified Utility Belt recast. Recast Deathstroke boots.)

    - I've got a redone Mephisto. I went with a darker color scheme on this one, and I really like the way that this one turned out. The whole figure feels more evil to me now. (Repainted Mini body. Modified SF2 cape. Scratchbuilt loincloth. Fully sculpted hair.)

    - I don't know anything about Captain Marvel here... He was a commission, and a fun project. The Dark Blue ECCC blanks provided the transparent body. This is a great costume, and was a blast to paint. I spent a couple of nights putting the little stars all over him. (Repainted Mini body. Scratchbuilt gauntlets. Fully sculpted hair.)

    - Several months ago, I posted pics of this figure in my blog... I finished him around September of 2007, but was never able to get decent pictures of him. I've finally got those. Here is the completed Spider-Man 2 Doctor Octopus. I really, really like the way that he turned out... The tentacles took forever to build, but they are completely possable, and can even hold another Mini in them. I also made a seperate head without wearing sunglasses. (Repainted Mini body. Scratchbuilt tentacles & trenchcoat. Modified Doc Ock hairpiece.)

    - Long ago, I was commissioned to make an Ultron... Before I got around to it, the official 'Mate was released. I figured that I owed an Ultron, so I was going to make an Ultron... From the pages of Mighty Avengers, I've got the naked, silvery female Ultron. This was my second attempt at her. The first time, I tried painting the silver on with a brush, but was never really happy with it... With this figure, I used the airbrush, and much happier with the result. The pictures really don't show the figure all that great, but in person, the silver really shimmers... (Repainted Mini body. Fully sculpted hairpiece.)

    DC Comics

    - I've always been a fan of Oracle. Once I found the TRU 4 Pack with Jean Grey & Xavier, this custom was as good as done! I hope to one day make her her own face instead of a reused Jean. (Repainted Mini Body with New X-Men Jean Grey hair. Repainted Professor Xavier wheelchair)

    - I confess to really knowing nothing about Black Flash. He was commissioned as a custom for a board member, and I know that he's "Death for Speedsters". At the time, I didn't have an extra Flash mask, so I sculpted this one. (Repainted Mini Body with Venom hands and fully sculpted mask)

    - I'm a HUGE Superman fan. I'm an even bigger fan of Supergirl! I never really did like this costume, but, as seen in her last appearance on JLU, she's back in the red and blue... You know this figure is gonna have to be redone! (Repainted Mini Body with re-tooled Gwen Stacey hair & skirt. The cape was cut down from a Gwen Stacey coat)

    - John Stewart rules! He's by far my favorite of the Green Lanterns, and I was unbelievably happy that they chose him for the Justice League cartoon. (Repainted Mini Body. Plastic plug inserted into hand for the ring.)

    - The saddest thing about the demise of the DC license was that we never got a completed League core. I based my Hawkgirl off of the unrelease AA prototype. At the time, this figure was my biggest project, and sported the most parts I ever had to make for one figure. (Repainted Mini body with fully sculpted headpiece. Scratch built chest piece, wings and mace.)

    - Rounding out the Justice League core was Wonder Woman. I didn't really like the AA prototype for her, so I went with my own design. I'm really happy with the way that she turned out. Plus, I've got the Justice League core! (Repainted Mini body with fully sculpted hair. Scratch built belt & bracelets. Hand braided lasso.)

    - Having finished up the core members of the League, I was ready to start on some of the other members. Captain Atom started as a test to see if I could chrome a

Silver Surfer mini. I'm really not too happy with the way that he turned out. I don't really like the bulkiness of the hair with the chrome foil on it. Someday, I may remake him with just paint. (Chrome foil covered Mini body with fully sculpted hair)

    - Vigilante was always nice to see in the background. Once he got a featured episode (& was voiced by Capt. Reynolds - Nathan Fillion) I had to make him. I'm very happy with the way that he turned out, and he still remains as one of my favorite pieces. (Repainted Mini body. Scratch built hat, 'kerchief, gun belt & spurs. Re-handled Lego revolvers)

    - After my last few builds (and while working on some commissioned re-builds) I needed something quick to occupy my time while I waited for paint and Bondo to dry. B'Wanna Beast fit the bill. He was a great character and was featured in one of the better JLU episodes. I've still got to get around to making that little "Wonder-pig" to go with him. (Repainted Mini body with scratch build loin cloth and mask.)

    - I really liked the redesigned Amazo that they used for Justice League. I based my custom off of the JLU version, but hope to get around to the older, grey version sometime. (Repainted 2.5" Mini body)

    - Amazo just kinda hangs around with Dr. Fate these days, so I had to make him. Currently, he doesn't have a face under that helmet, but I hope to get one on there eventually, as soon as I figure out how I want him to look. (Repainted Mini body. Re-tooled Iron Man helmet. Re-tooled Gandolf cape. Scratch built glove tops and belt.)

    - Everyone loves a clone, right? My favorite powergirl Galatea is(was?) a great addition to Justice League. I love her design, and she serves as a place-holder until I can get an honest Power Girl built. (Repainted Mini body with fully sculpted hair. Scratch built glove tops.)

    - Steel remains a crappy comic character. His appearances on JLU almost make up for his origin. I'm hoping to one day re-do this figure with a removeable helmet. I just think that his little head looks odd on top of those massive shoulders. (Repainted Mini body. Scratch built shoulder pads, gauntlets, belt & hammer.)

    - They really used The Question well in the last "season" of JLU. He really became a central character. For my Mini, I took a nod from the PalZ line and gave him a reversible head. Now, I've just gotta finish up my Huntress to hang out with this little guy. (Repainted Mini body. Fully sculpted headpiece. Extended New X-Men Jean Grey trench coat.)

    - The second figure in my Custom Figure A Day Event: Captain Atom 2. Not so much the second Captain Atom, just my second custom of him. The last one was chromed, and I never really liked it. This version is more of the comic version, what with the blue boots an' all. I think that he turned out much better. (Repainted Silver Surfer Mini w/ C3 feet. Retooled Tony Stark hair)

    - The third figure in the Custom Figure A Day Event: Aquaman. I've always prefered the "classic" look to the bearded, hook hand version. I will have to do the newer version eventually, to fit in with the rest of my JLU figures, but for my first Aquaman, it had to be this version... (Repainted Mini body. Retooled Unmasked Spider-Man hair. Repainted Captain America gloves. Scratch built belt and fin thingys on his legs.)

    - Day Five for the Custom Figure A Day Event, brings us everyone's favorite "stretchy guy" Elongated Man. I've always been a fan of this costume over the red & black. Once they used it on JLU, I had to make the Mini... Here's a pic just for fun - for anyone who's read Identity Crisis... My main gripe with the Mr. Fantastic Minimate is it just looks odd with only the stretched out arms. I built an extended torso for EM. I think it looks much better. I'm really happy with this one. (Repainted Mini body. Retooled Mr. Fantastic arms. Reworked Unmasked Spider-Man hair.)

    - Day Six's Figure: Atom Smasher is here. One of the coolest things about JLU is the lesser known characters that are just in the background of any given episode. Atom Smasher here, can be seen in most of those episodes. He's a size-shifter, so I decided to make him in the 3" scale. My League is really growing... (Repainted 3" Mini body. Scratch built belt & gauntlets.)

    - The Seventh figure for the Custom Figure A Day Event: Wildcat. There's not alot to say about Wildcat. I thought he was a pretty cool character when he showed up on JLU. There's just something about those heroes that don't have any powers... I'm pretty happy with the way that he turned out... (Repainted Mini body with Big Chest attachment. Scratch built helmet.)

    - Booster Gold & Skeets are great characters. I loved the episode of JLU that they were on, "The Greatest Story Never Told". The episode really showed a full range of personality in the character of Booster. I'm really happy with the way that Booster & Skeets turned out. (Repainted Mini body. Fully sculpted headpiece. Scratch built collar. Modified hands. Fully sculpted Skeets on scratch built stand.)

    - The Huntress rules! I love that they used her so heavily in the last season of JLU... even if she did get kicked out of the league. The relationship that she developed with The Question was great... I've been working on this figure for awhile now... It took me way too long to around to finishing her up, but I'm pretty happy with the result... (Repainted Mini body. Fully sculpted hair on scratch built mask. Retooled LOTR cape. Retooled New X-men belt. Scratch built boots. Scratch built crossbow.)

    - Two things I love: John C. McGinley & The Atom ... Put them together, and it's awesome! This is by far my favorite voice casting on Justice League ever... I've been a fan of the Atom since I was a kid, and I bought those old "Sword of the Atom" Specials... I really am happy with the way that The Atom turned out... (Repainted Mini body. Scratch built mask. Scratch built belt. Scratch built Mini Mini-Atom.)

    - The Kryptonian computer: Brainiac was supposed to be released by AA & Play Along... It wasn't, so I made my own off of their prototype. One thing that I changed from the prototypes, was the chest piece. I thought that he looked too "blocky" with the full chest piece. I'm very please with the way that Brainiac turned out... (Repainted Mini body. Scratch built helmet, belt, chestpiece & gauntlets.)

    - Born on a Monday, Solomon Grundy came together really quick. I couldn't tell from the one picture that I could find of the AA prototype what their Grundy was going to look like, so I did my own design. I think he took one night start to finish. He's built out of a 2.5" figure so he would be bigger than the JLU heroes that I've got. I really like the way that he looks... but something just looks "off" to me... (Repainted 2.5" Mini body. Fully sculpted hair. Scratch built jacket & belt)

    - I've always been a fan of Black Canary. She's always seemed like she could have been a throw away charcter, but she's what got Ollie to join the JL and keep him there (on the cartoon, at least)... so that's a good thing. I went with the more "animated" version of the character. I'm very happy with the way that she turned out. Now, I've just got to finish that Arrow, so she's got someone to hang around with... (Repainted Mini body. Reworked New X-Men Wolverine Jacket. Fully sculpted hair. Scratch built boot tops.)

    - I like Shining Knight. He's got a flying horse, and he's from the middle ages. Nowadays, he hangs out in the Watchtower with Vigilante & Atom Smasher. I couldn't be happier with the way that this figure turned out, or the way that the character's been used on JLU. (Repainted Mini body. Scratch built helmet. Recast & Reworked Big Chest piece and Doom Skirt. Reworked LOTR Theodon scarab. LOTR Theodon sword with Grimtongue hilt. Repainted Lego horse with scratch built wings. Snap-on Reworked Minimate Lower body, glued into position.)

    - Blue Beetle will always be Ted Kord. This figure sat on my desk for about a month before I finally finished it. Even though he never showed up on the cartoon, Beetle has appeared in the JLU comic book. I based this figure off of his appearance there. Now Booster Gold has someone to keep him company on the Watchtower... (Repainted Mini body. Recast Bullseye belt. Scratch built helmet.)

    - Showing up in one of next episodes of JLU Deadman was begging for a figure. Who was I to deny him that? They used him great on JLU, and now my Watchtower has it's own spectral entity... The figure is actually painted in a darker red with brighter red highlights. The photo doesn't show that too well...(Repainted Mini body. Scratch built collar piece. Captain America gloves.)

    - Art Asylum's prototype for Lex Luthor showed him in what became his JLU costume. As a place holder for that figure, I've decided to make ol' Lex in his more respectable business attire. There truly is nothing more evil than a man in a suit. (Spot Repainted Chameleon body.... That's about it...)

    - Bane is a pretty cool character. He broke Batman's back years ago, and was a pretty useless movie villain... c'mon, Robin(?) beat this guy in the movie... Anyway, I based this figure off of the new DC Superheros figure. I'm extremely happy with the way that he turned out. (Repainted 2.5" Mini body. Scratch built Venom delivery device, belt, and boots.)

    - Finally, Professor Zoom, the Reverse-Flash is another character that I knew nothing about when I got the commission. He comes from the 25th century where he found one of Barry Allen's costumes. He came back to the 20th century to battle The Flash on numerous occassions, until Barry ended up snapping his neck and killing him. (Repainted Mini body. Recast Flash headpiece.)

    - A little late, what with the DC Mate announcement, but I'm still proud of Hal Jordan here. I really don't care for him as Green Lantern (John Stewart's my favorite), but as a member of the JLA, he needed to be made. Hopefully, he'll stand up well next to the official one when it gets released, I know I sure like the way that he turned out. (Repainted Mini body. Modified Assault Punisher hair recast. Plug inserted into hand for ring.)

    - Also, a little late, but I have an OMAC ready to go. The arm pieces and the fin on the head were scratch built, and since I've never seem an OMAC not floating around, I rreworked the feet so they look like he's hovering. I'm very happy with how this guy turned out. I had originally wanted to do a few of them, but since DC's making them, what's the point? (Repainted Mini body. Scratch built fin & arm pieces. Reworked feet. Games Workshop flying stand.)

    - Again... A little late (Damn You DCD! Damn You!) but I finally have my Green Arrow finished. I don't know what took me so long. I've had everything sculpted for him for probably six months, but I just really dragged my feet painting it... I hate painting green... Regardless, the figure is done, and I couldn't be happier with the way that he turned out. I added the upper bicep joint so he can turn his arm like he's shooting his bow. I went with a true joint this time around. I don't like the way that Abi Whistler's arm is always turned... May have to go back and fix that someday... (Repainted Mini body. Modified Peter Parker hair recast. Modified Big Chest recast. Scratch built quiver with removable arrow, belt, hat and bow.)

-CFAD3 - Day 1 - With the announcement of the DC Minimates, I was heartbroken. I had already made most of the characters that were coming out, most of the others, were on the way. Battle Armor Lex Luthor was one that I was doing. I'm very pleased with the way that mine turned out. I built mine around a 2.5" body, because I think he should be big. My design is a bit of an amalgam of the suit through the years, but my suit does have a Kryptonite power core, which plugs into the back of the armor. (Repainted 2.5"" Mini body - Modified to accept 2" head - with 3" hands. Scratch built shoulder pads, belt, boots & gauntlets.)

-CFAD3 - Day 3 - Another one that I've had built for awhile... Yeah, DC's making him themselves, but I'm kinda partial to my version of Deathstroke. I had made mine with the removable mask before we found out that the real one was going to have it. Still, I really like this figure. He was alot of fun to do, and I'm very happy with the final result. It was a bit of a trick to line the eyehole in the mask up with the eye on the head. (Repainted Mini body. Scratch built mask, bandolier, boots, staff and holster. Recast Cap gloves. Reworked New X-Men Wolverine belt & LOTR sword/sheath.)

-CFAD3 - Day 4 - I finally got around to doing this one: Zatanna is one of my all time favorite characters... Period! I've always loved this costume, and had planned on doing her in my Justice League Unlimited line, but never got around to it. I'm much more pleased with the actual figure than the design I did for it. Painting the fishnets was a bitch, though...

(Repainted Mini body. Reworked Joker tuxedo. Fully sculpted hair. Scratch built hat and wand. Reworked hands with cuffs.

-CFAD3 - Day 9 - Doomsday.... He killed Superman.... He's a bastard.... But at least I beat AA to him...(Repainted 2.5" Mini body. Fully sculpted bones.)

-CFAD3 - Day 10 - Probably my all-time favorite character as a kid was Blue Devil. Don't know why, I always really liked the guy. I was stoked when he showed up on Justice League Unlimited, but never got around to finishing his figure. Now I've got him done, and I'm pretty happy with him. (Repainted Mini body. Scratch-built headpiece, boots, gloves, belt & tail, & pitchfork. Recast and Modified Big Chest.)

    - Another of my all-time favorite characters as a kid, and one that I KNOW DCD (or anyone else, for that matter) will get around to making: Amethyst: Princess of Gemworld. Her comics were pretty cool when I was younger, and the sword and sorcery thing always called to me. I've read since that she was designed to try and get girls into comics, but I still liked her. She was one of the three figures that I made for CustomCon15's Women of the DCU, and I'm almost completely happy with her. (Repainted Mini body. Fully sculpted hairpiece. Recast and Heavily Modified Doom skirt. Recast gauntlets. Recast and Modified Demitri cape. Repainted, cut-down LOTR sword)

    - The second figure that I did for CustomCon15, was the new Supergirl. I really don't care for this version of the character, I've always prefered Peter David's, but I did need to make her for my collection. I'm very happy with the way that she turned out, much happier than my JLU version. Next, I'll have to make David's version. (Repainted Mini body. Fully sculpted hairpiece. Recast and Modified Demitri cape. Recast and Modified Doom skirt.)

    - Zatanna was the third figure that I made for CustomCon 15... Sure, I made her in the magician costume, but she was wearing this costume when I first learned about her, so I needed to make this version too.... I couldn't be happier with that way that she turned out. Zatanna is probably my all-time favorite character, and now I've got two of her costumes 'Mated. (Repainted Mini body. Fully sculpted hairpiece. Recast and Modified Demitri cape.)

    - It's been awhile since I made some JLU figures. Justice Lords Batman was a fun one to do. I started by building the shoulder pad out of plastic to mimic the JL Superman that we already have. Then, I took the chest piece from an extra Batcave, sliced the cape off, and resined it on to the shoulders. I recast the gauntlets from the JL Superman figure, and added the spikes. Then it was a only a matter of painting some grey and black. I'm very pleased with the way this one turned out. Might have to make some more of the Justice Lords down the road... (Repainted Mini body. Scratchbuilt shoulder pads w/ existing cape. Recast and modified JL Superman gauntlets. Repainted Batman cowl.)

-The same order wanted a Justice Lords Wonder Woman as well. Diana was much easier than the Bat, but I think I like her better. I love the way that this figure turned out. May have to make one for myself someday... (Repainted Mini body. Scratchbuilt gauntlets. Recast and Modified Assault Punisher hairpiece. Hand braided lasso.)

    - {100th Figure}

Visinary Writer/Artist Paul Pope brought us a wonderful story with his series Batman: Year 100. The story was just released in trade, and includes his "Berlin Batman" story from a few years back... I highly recommend the book. It's a great Batman story, and a perfect example of what comics should be.

I've always loved Pope's artwork, and really enjoyed his take on a future Batman. I tried to make the Minimate as close to Pope's artwork as possible, and think that I did a pretty good job. I opted for the newer, full-face mask that DC has been doing, so that there could be a normal, non-fanged face under the mask... I absolutely love this figure. It's probably my favorite of all of them that I've done. (Repainted Mini body. Modified "glove-roll" hands. Recast Utility belt. Scratchbuilt cowl, cape and shoulder pads.)

    - Back to the DCU after awhile away, but I've got the Green Lantern Kyle Raynor done before DCD has... Pretty straight forward figure, but I'm really happy with the way that he's turned out. It's a shame that my camera sucks so much, because I think he's sporting the best hair that I've ever sculpted... (Repainted Mini body. Modified ring hand. Fully sculpted hair.)

    - Gotham City's other protector Simon Dark. I really enjoy this book. I'm not a huge Steve Niles fan, but I think he's doing something interesting with this book. I really wanted a figure to add to my shelf. (Repainted Mini body. Recast Assault Punisher trenchcoat. Scratchbuilt mask. Fully sculpted hair. Recast and modified Dr. Doom Skirt.)

    - The Sinestro Corps' "Guardian of Fear", The Anti-Monitor was a really fun figure to make. I used a 3" body to give him the bulk that a character of his size needs. Also modified the torso so that it was longer to give him more height. The tubing around the torso was the hardest part to figure out. Doesn't show in the pics, but the eyes and mouths are actually carved out of the head. (Repainted 3" Mini. Scratchbuilt helmet, shoulder pads, belt, gauntlets & boots.)

    - One of the Anti-Monitor's heralds, Superman-Prime was another fun figure... For some reason, I like doing these characters with tubes... (Repainted Mini body. Modified GhostRider shoulder pads with LOTR cape. Recast Alt Superman gauntlets. Recast and Modified Tony Stark hair. Scratchbuilt boots & belt.)

    - Also joining the Sinestro Corps, Cyborg Superman is a favorite figure of mine... I really liked painting all of the details on him. Pretty easy figure to build, but I spend along time painting it... I really tried not looking at the actual Cyborg Supes Mini while I was building this and just worked off memory, trying to see what I could come up with. (Repainted Mini body. Superman cape. Recast Superman belt. Scratchbuilt "fleshy" head part.)

    - Rounding out my Sinestro Corps set is Kyle Rayner as host to Parallax. Another fun figure. (Repainted Mini body. Modified Batcave Batman boots. Recast and modified Bruce Wayne hair. Modified M. Bison cape. Scratchbuilt gauntlets and belt.)

    - Sinestro Corps Group Shot

    Indie-Mates

-CFAD3 - Day 8 - As a young pup, I was always partial to comics like Conan, Warlord and the like... Red Sonja was a charcter that I loved. She was, I thought, much cooler than Conan. Hey, chicks with swords are hot, right? When Dynamite started releasing new Red Sonja comics, I was very excited... too bad I never read any of the comics... until lately. I was astounded by the book. It's well written (Can Oeming do wrong?), well drawn (Rubi's got potential) and has some of the best cover artists in history... I had to make myself a Red Sonja Minimate, excuse me "Indie-Mate"... I couldn't be happier with the way that she turned out. (Repainted Mini body. Fully sculpted hair. Scratch built loin cloth, leg armor and boots. Recast and modified Cap gloves. Re-bladed LOTR sword.)

-CFAD3 - Day 11 - I've been a Chaos! fan since day one. I loved those books when they came out. I've wanted to make a Lady Death figure for a long time now. I figured now was as good a time as any. Even though it was a pretty simple figure, I'm very happy with the way that she turned out, and it got me wanting to make some of the other Chaos! characters... (Repainted Mini body. Recast SF Demitri Cape. Repainted New X-Men Jean Grey hair.)

-CFAD3 - Day12 - Another Chaos! character, Evil Ernie loved Lady Death. Truly deeply loved her... Like Gosling loved McAdams... Ernie loved her so much that he killed nearly everyone east of the Mississippi, all in exchange for her love... He's pretty messed up in the head, but I had a blast making this figure. (Repainted Mini body with modified torso. Fully sculpted Smiley, hair and magic stomach bubbles. Scratch built knife)

-CFAD3 - Day13 - Again, another Chaos! character, this time it's Chastity, the vampire assassin. She's probably my favorite character out of all of the Chaos! universe, and I'm pretty pleased with the way the figure turned out. (Repainted Mini body. Fully sculpted hair. Re-bladed LOTR swords.)

-CFAD3 - Day14 - I had the other three done, so I had to make a Purgatori figure to round out the Chaos! Big Four. She doesn't sport the cool articulated wings like some of my past flyers, but I'm pretty happy with the way that she turned out.... Most of these Chaos! girls had very similar outfits. It was fun to try and differentiate them by the time I got to the third one. (Repainted Mini body. Fully sculpted hair. Scratch built wings)

    - From Brian K. Vaughn and Tony Harris' wonderful book, Ex-Machina, comes The Great Machine. I've been a fan of this book since issue 1 (The last page remains one of the greatest comic images, ever...) and have wanted to make a MiniMate since I first started customizing them. I couldn't be happier with the way that the figure turned out. The jet-pack was a tremendous amount of fun to make... I really pushed myself to see how much detail I could fit into this guy. (Repainted Mini body. Scratchbuilt jet-pack and belt. Recast and heavily modified Big Chest & Magneto helmet. Fully sculpted jet exhaust on a modified Games Workshop flying stand.)

    - First in a series of figures from the wonderful Image Comics book, Invincible, I've got Invincible, himself - Mark Grayson. Mark's, well, he's invincible... so it's not just a clever name... He can also fly... Read the comic. It's seriously the best written super-hero title I've ever read... I made the top portion of the "I" on his suit as a seperate piece, just like it is in the comic... (Repainted Mini body. Scratchbuilt collar. Modified Bullseye mask.)

    - Next in the Invincible line, we've got Mark's dad, Omni Man. Nolan has super-speed, super-strength, flight... the whole bit. He's also kind of a psycho. (Repainted Mini body. Modified Bison cape. FF Gloves. Mr. Fantastic hairpiece.)

    - The third figure in the Invincible line, is Atom Eve. Eve Wilkins has the ability to change objects at the molecular level... She can change anything into anything else. Also, smoking-hot red-head... (Repainted Mini body. Fully sculpted hair. Modified Demitri cape.)

    - Fourth (Final?) figure for the Invincible line, fan favorite Allen the Aline shows up today. I've had him done for awhile now, but haven't gotten around to posting him until now. There are so many great characters in the Invincible universe, but Allen is so cool, he had to have a Mini. Once I realized that he was easily built from existing parts, he was a shoe-in to finish up the first Invincible box-set. Really happy with the way that he turned out. (Repainted Mini body. Martian Manhunter headpiece. Nightcrawler hands and feet. New X-Men Wolvie belt and jacket.) Bonus: Group Shot

    - Will Eisner's The Spirit, the way that he should look... in color... Frank Miller can Suck It! (Repainted Mini body. Recast 24 jacket. Scratchbuilt hat & tie.)

    - From Jason Pearson's comic, Body Bags, I have Clownface. I really dug this comic when it came out. There's going to be a new book out this November & when the Indie-Mate contest was announced, it got me really excited to do this figure. I love the way that it turned out... I went with his appearance from the first comic, Father's Day, which explains the red Chucks and the lack of the Iron Cross necklace. (Repainted 2.5" Mini body - modified to accept 2" head. Scratchbuilt and recast 2.5" Big Chest. Scratchbuilt mask, gloves, knives, sheathes, pouches, belt, & pant cuffs. The grenade comes from a 1/8th scale weapons pack)

    Various Figures

    - mcchris. I'm a huge fan. I had to have a Mini. (Repainted 3" Mini Body with fully sculpted hat. Scratch built microphone. Custom Tube package)

    - Steve Zissou from The Life Aquatic. I really loved this movie. Bill Murray gave a great performance within an impressive cast. I had to make a Mini. (Repainted 3" Mini Body with fully sculpted stocking hat. Scratch built holster. Parts box Glock)

    - From [adult swim], comes The Venture Bros. A great cartoon. I've been a fan of this show from the original pilot. I needed Minis... (*Dr. Venture - Repainted Mini Body with scratch built communicator watch. Re-tooled head with ears and beard. *Hank Venture - Repainted Mini Body with scratch built communicator watch and ascot. *Dean Venture - Repainted Mini Body with fully sculpted hair and scratch built communicator watch. *Brock Samson - 3" Torso & Arms - 2.5" Hands and Legs - 2" Head - Repainted with fully sculpted hair and scratch built communicator watch and knife)

    - Board member MiniJeff recently had triplets (His wife did actually). I made him BabyMates to celebrate.

    - Fujis asked me to be a member of the build team for the 2006 Concept Design Contest and I gladly accepted. Once I saw Lurch77's awesome Sorceress design, I had mentioned that I would love the chance to built her if she won. She won. I built her. Probably the most detailed, labor of love that I've ever produced. She can be seen here. I scratch build the head peice, staff, boots and wings. I recast a Dr. Doom skirt and heavily modified it. Her bracelets are recast and reworked Justice Lords Superman's, and Games Workshops provided the flight stand. All in all, she is definately one of the pieces that I am most proud of. She was very hard to let go of, but I know Lurch will give her a good home.

    - Here's my entry for Fujis 2006 Custom Contest: David Bowie as Jareth the Goblin King from the movie Labyrinth. I'm a huge Bowie fan, so the figure was a blast for me. I'm very pleased with the results. I see the line like the LOTR Minimates: 3" Ludo, 2.5" Humans (Jareth here, and the forthcoming Sarah figure), 2" Hoggle, Sir Didimus, Toby, Goblins, etc... (Repainted 2.5" Minimate. Fully sculpted hairpiece. Scratch-built frilly collar and shirt cuffs. Scratch-built open, crystal-holding hand and cane.)

    - The other figure that I made for the Contest, but didn't enter is: Shaun from Shaun of the Dead as played by Simon Pegg. Hands down, the best RomZomCom of 2004. I loved the movie, but ultimately decided to go with a different figure for this contest. (Repainted Minimate body. Fully sculpted hairpiece and flower bouquet. Scratch-built Cricket Bat & watch. Modified doll house record. A bit of red on him.)

    - My entry for the MMV Sci-Fi Mates Custom Contest: Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. Cloud took me nearly a month to build, but I couldn't be happier with that way that he turned out. The pictures turned out really dark, and don't show alot of the detail in the figure, but this figure is loaded with detail. All four of the individual swords combine into one, and that was alot of fun to figure out. Hopefully, I'll finish Sephiroth shortly, so he's got someone to beat on... (Repainted Mini body. Recast Cap glove. Fully sculpted hairpiece. Scratchbuilt swords, sheats, skirt, pant cuffs, shoulder pad, collar and straps, sleeve cuff.)

    - Kratos from God of War was a figure that my mother wanted me to make for her for awhile now. I've played most of the game, and thought that it was superb. For the figure, I sprayed the whole thing in a chrome paint, and then went over it with a lighter silvery blue. The pictures really don't show this, he just looks blue, but he looks much nicer in person. I has a great time making this little guy, and my mother loved it. (Repainted Mini body. Scratchbuilt loin cloth and swords.)

    - Perhaps the most evil man in the world Sephiroth, shows his face today. Cloud's nemesis, the respawn murderer of Aerith, was a long time coming. How does one try to convey his evilness in such a cute little 2"? Overall, I'm pleased with the way he turned out. I think the shoulder pads are a tad too big, but I've built them four times now, and am happy with them. (Repainted Mini body. Scratchbuilt Shoulder pads on a modified Jean Grey trenchcoat. Scratchbuilt sword and cuffs. Fully sculpted hairpiece.)

    - My contribution for the Charity Mate Project: Frankenstein's Monster. This figure was a blast. I didn't want to make it look like any established version of the character, but there's only so much you can do with a giant stitched together from others, then given life through the scientific process... I did alot of dry-brushing on this figure to try to give it some more "ick"... My idea was that some of his "bits" were newer than the others, and that's why the left arm is a sickly yellow color... and that's why the brace is there... It's helping hold the arm together until the body heals. The face is the first one that I've ever painted from scratch without a decal, and I really like the way that it turned out. I modified 3" feet to fit the 2.5" figure, because I wanted him to have that heavy feel to his feet. Also, this figure is the first time that I've used the 2.5" Big Chest that I built and cast... It worked out alright. (Repainted 2.5" Mini body. Scratch built & recast Big Chest and boot tops. Sculpted fur vest and headpiece. Scratch built arm brace & manacle. Modified LOTR belt.)

    - My entry into the Zombie-Mate contest: Zombie Magnum P.I.. I had a blast with this figure. The shirt was fun to paint. Carrying around the head of Higgins, that's just funny. I almost sculpted the 'stache, but decided not to at the last minute... I think I like it better this way. It's hard to tell in the pics, but he's got one C3 foot (the bare one) and one Old Style foot (the shoed one)... Subtle little thing, but it get's the point across...(Repainted Mini body. Scratchbuilt hat on fully sculpted hairpiece. Modified Mini head (for Higgins). Random Gun)

    - My entry to the 2008 Charity Mate Project: Captain Lupus - Scourge of the Moonlit Seas. The first thing I'd really finished all year, this guy was a blast to make, and I was really sorry to see him go. (Repainted Mini body. Scratchbuilt wolf-feet, muzzle, hat, tail, arm extensions, coat cuffs, and hook hand. Modified Assault Punisher trenchcoat, Dark Phoenix sash, 2.5" hand, Lego pistol, Playmobile sword.)

    - From Joss Whedon's wonderful Doctor Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, Doctor Horrible, himself. I'm not totally happy with the likeness of NPH here, and will no doubt attempt another head in the near future... Other than that, I love this figure. The idea behind Joss's whole project is great, and everyone involved was wonderful... (Repainted Mini body. Scratchbuilt smock & goggles... Modified Batman hairpiece. Fantastic Four gloves)

    - Dr. Horrible needs his arch-enemy so, Captain Hammer had to be made. I'm totally happy with this figure... I love the Nathan Fillion likeness. (Repainted Mini body. Fully sculpted hairpiece. Captain America gloves)

    - Doctor Horrible's Sing-Along Blog Group shot.

    Non MiniMate Stuff

    - My mother is a huge video game geek... Bigger than I am! One of her very favorite games is Voodoo Vince for the X-Box. Microsoft made nothing promotional for this game, which is a shame. She was bugging me for about six months to make her a Voodoo Vince Minimate, but I couldn't "see" the character in a block figure. Her birthday was coming up, so I decided to try something that I hadn't done for awhile - complete sculpting!

    Here is the result:

    1, 2, 3, 4, 5
