  1. Though I knew it was a long shot, I'm a little disappointed that a BSG Raptor will not be forthcoming. I'm even more disappointed that the Ecto-1 is not part of DST's current license - however, based on the number of questions, I'd say that there is interest

  2. By the way - for those still looking - I got those from the TRU on Winchester Blvd (by the Winchester Mystery House) in San Jose. They were in the Marvel aisle, and they still had quite a few sets when I went back on Saturday.

I am oddly interested in this bit of information --- isn't the Winchester Mystery House, well, haunted? And to think we're talking about ghosts in this thread too :ermm:

I think they did a Ghosthunters episode there and didn't find much - but if they filmed there to begin with, it suggests that there is at least rumors of paranormal experiences.

  3. I got to see the travelling Star Trek Exhibit on Friday at the San Jose Tech Museum.

I have very mixed feelings about the exhibit... as a Star Trek fan since I was a kid in the 70's, I was really excited to see the exhibit.

Some of the high points included:

Life-size walk-on replicas of the Original Series Bridge, The TNG Enterprise Transporter Room, TNG Ships Corridor and the Guardian of Forever as well as a look-in exhibit of Picard's Quarters.

Costumes from Every Star Trek Franchise

Massive timeline of the future detailing major events from Enterprise through Nemesis and alternate timeline of Star Trek(2009).

Lots of various displays with crew & show bios as well as details of alien races and theoretical star trek science explanations.

Shuttlecraft ride simulator & Star Trek (2009) in IMAX

However, I was disappointed that the exhibit was very light on props and not very long. Given what I had seen many years ago at the old Las Vegas Star Trek ride & exhibit, there were not a lot of phasers, tricorders, weapons, or much else. Some of the drawbacks were:

There were only a few 24" filming models (Excelsior, Enterprise D, Klingon Vor'Cha cruiser, Stargazer, Borg Cube and a couple of shuttles).

No photography - unless you wanted them to take pictures of you in the Captain's chair/On the transporter or In the Guardian of forever... fore which they would be happy to take your pic & sell it back to you at a premium.

    Few Props (except costumes)

Extra charge for Shuttlecraft ride simulator & Star Trek (2009) in IMAX

I thoroughly read and looked at everything I could and was in and out of the exhibit in about an hour (including a thorough browse through the gift shop) - for $25 (exhibit only), that seemed a little un-fulfilling.

I did find that they drew a lot of their Merchandise from DST's Star Trek product line - albeit at hefty markups in some cases (Science Tricorder that sells at TRU and online for $39.99 was selling for $69.99, TWOK Phaser regularly $30 was $35 etc), including the last ST wave of minimates. There was also no shortage of the Playmates Star Trek(2009) merch (which can be purchased on clearance everywhere, for about $20 of the gift shop price). The only safe bet in the gift store were books, because they did not markup above publisher's price.

Final Recommendation: Visit at your own risk - If you're a Trekky, then you might not be able to resist (after all, it's futile) - but expect to add $8 for IMAX and $5-6 for the Ride simulator to the $25 entry fee, in order to get the full effect. Prepare to be underwhelmed. If you're not into Trek - best to take your $25 to your LCS or TRU and get a few 2-packs of minimates and go home and enjoy those instead.

  4. Funny thing is... I went to an out of town TRU while my son was participating in a school event. I saw the GB mates and was surprised that Egon & the Library Ghost had survived the holiday blitz, as well as all the other GB mates on the shelves - especially since they were cleaned out of every other type of minimates.

It wasn't until I got home that I found out about the re-release GB wave and the variant Slimer & Louis Tully.

Firtunately, I got another chance to go back yesterday and grab up the Peter/ variant Slimer and variant Louis/Slimer packs. Just got lucky there - none of the TRU's in my area have rec'd those sets yet.

By the way - for those still looking - I got those from the TRU on Winchester Blvd (by the Winchester Mystery House) in San Jose. They were in the Marvel aisle, and they still had quite a few sets when I went back on Saturday.

  5. I have the kidrobot Futurama and Simpsons vinyl figures - I think they're nice likenesses, though I regard them somewhat differently than minimates.

The one think I hate about Kidrobot is all that goddam blind box business - which is also a stike against Kubrick

  6. I'm gonna hold off judging these - I want to see some better prototypes before passing judgment - I'm definitely excited about the DeLorean (regular, not frosted). The Terminator tank-thing looks intriguing, but I think the exclusive figure will probably sell it for me. As for that Jet - it's a nice idea - I'm thinking that it will complement the laboratory as part of the Max line

  7. I went to pick some things up for my kids and looked in on the 'mates - no dice. However, I've learned that stores stock for the ad on Black Friday - since there were no mates in the ad, I really had no expectation that there would be anything new. In actuality, the best shot will be the week AFTER black friday - now that all the shelf space has been freed up, store like TRU will begin filling with their regular merch.

  8. I just asked about these at a comic shop and the guy said they're shipping next week, so I pre-ordered it then and there...

    Who knows, right?

These were on DST's "TBD" list in the last shipping update (end of Oct) - I think the release date for next week goes back before the line got put on hold. Not sure that I bank too heavily on seeing these next week

  9. Maybe I've been through just a few too many "Some Assemby Required" Christmas seasons w/ kids - but that wire tie through the bottom of the toy isn't exactly new or unique to DST - and didn't prove too challenging with the miniflyers. I've learned to keep utility shears or wire nippers someplace near my desk or the kitchen for just such an eventuality.

By the way - I have an interesting question - what is it about the BSG license and mates that seems to invite all this negativity? Is this one of those love 'em or hate 'em licenses? There seems to be 2 types of posts - the "I'm really excited and can't wait to get mine" posts or the "I really don't like these, and I'm not gonna buy them, and they're clogging the pegs, and the mini-flyers suck too" posts - anyone else notice how much hate there seems to be for this license (and the fact that TRU has brought it back from the dead)

  10. I found the Viper & Raider last night (yay me!) but my Hot Dog doesn't have any hair...:blink:

Let me try that again - I didn't find any separate hairpiece for the minimate in the Viper package. Was it packaged in an out-of-the-way place?

When my Wolverine was missing a shoulder pad last month, I wrote DS Customer Service and they sent an entire replacement Wolverine, including alternate hands and hair! You can never have too many Wolverines...

As I recall, the hair piece was conspicuous and not easily missed when opening the package

  11. The Viper I ordered showed up a week ago (which I really like). However, I waited for the Raider to hit the shelves, 'cause I wanted to see it beforehand. Well, I finally got the Raider today, and when I got home I realized that the package insert stated Mark VII Viper w/ Hotdog. I didn't even notice if that was the case with the others on the shelf.

BTW: What I noticed seem to confirm what we've already heard - each case seems to be 4 pcs, w/ the distribution 50% Raiders-50% Vipers
