  1. I found these at the Union Square (San Francisco) Borders this week. I scored the Happy Hogan Variant and Exclusive for myself and another Exclusive for one of the members who lives nearby. Oddly enough, I think that the other Borders (Westfield) must have sold the case or something... 'cause I never got the call they promised, when they "came in stock". I'm sure glad that I "cultivated additional options" and didn't wait
  2. ... and which Boarders might this be that's putting them out in a day or two? San Francisco - Westfield shopping center.
  3. I went to Borders to check on the IM Exclusives. According to the clerk, they arrive today and will hit the floor within a day or two. They were good enough to ask for my name and said they'll call when they get them. They already had the large format DST exclusive IM statue
  4. This looks like a QC. Who's the face? My guess would be BSG Cavil
  5. I'm pretty selective about what I get... though there are some licenses that I try to complete, like BSG or Ghostbusters - there are others like Marvel, where I pick and choose characters that I like. Several of the box sets have been a pass and I often order 1 or 2 packs of a Marvel wave. I also will not spend crazy money on a minimate like a Gold or Silver spidey or exclusive - if a single mate is over $10, then I'll probably pass. I am also partial to the newer looking mates and don't really care for some of the earlier designs, like Sue Storm, Lady Deathstrike or the Thing. Also, as a general rule, I've passed on all but 1 or 2 DC mates.
  6. Give this a try: Instock @ $18.99 is about as good as it's gonna get http://www.youbuynow.com/item/Ghostbusters_Minimates_Box_Set
  7. I went to Borders to check on the exclusive set... no dice. However, I asked (since borders is kinda large and convoluted and the location of these types of Misc items aren't always easy to find) and they are in their order system... but with no delivery date. The best I could get from the clerk was that their arrival was imminent (code word for she didn't know $h1t but wanted to sound intelligent and informed - is it me or do bookstore people always want you to think they are a lot smarter than they really are... but I digress). Her order system only indicated 6 packs were "imminent".
  8. I scooped this set up on Wednesday - not at all impressed. Color snafu or not, Vulture is pretty darn cool with the wings... otherwise... My friends at Krazy Glue took care of Doc Octopus... I could only get one tentacle to stay as designed... Black cat is pretty nice, only to have the color mismatch be a huge letdown - it looks like her torso was set upon by vampires. BD Spidey is just sloppy - The only thing that even remotely redeems him is the webline accessories... barely. Looks like the "worst of 2010" bar has been set pretty high (or low, depending on how you look at it) and we're only a quarter of the way through the year.
  9. Gotta be the oddest request for an addition to the line... ever. I mean 'Glee'? Really? Frellin' Glee? Everybody like different stuff I guess. I know, right? I mean, come on, why would they waste plastic on Glee when Gilmore Girls clearly deserves Minimates more? If any show deserves some serious Mateage it's The X-Files. However I would be incredibly happy with just a boxset or two of Gilligan's Isle and some Hogan's Heroes. Yeah - what you said.... and don't forget Jaws
  10. Gotta be the oddest request for an addition to the line... ever. I mean 'Glee'? Really? Frellin' Glee? Everybody like different stuff I guess. This question gave me flashbacks to the Q&A where Desperate Housewives was requested. Seriously, after the success of Desperately Seeking Susan, the popularity of minimates never cease to amaze, but when I saw the detailed request for a couple waves of Glee minimates and their numerous variations, I had a WTF! moment.
  11. Though in some ways it's not surprising, it sounds like the playset is dead. I'm sure TRU.com just hasn't caught up with the cancellation. It looks like the corpses of of dead minimate lines like Ghost Rider, Rocky 3, 24 Season 3, Godfather & Beverly Hills Cop now have a tomb.
  12. There is one other change in the Louis Tully pack - In the original release, the nametag on the uniform was printed with "Tully" However, it was repeatedly pointed out that Louis wore Egon's uniform in the actual movie - so the "Best Of..." release rei-issues Louis with the nametag "Spengler" in order to be movie-accurate
  13. That's strange - those were the only two sets I could find in the store, too... I didn't look too closely, but of the partial case I saw, there seems to be an abundance of the Egon/Captain set and the Venmak Vigo Set, and the Scolari Brothers sets might be short packed... Without seeing the case when it opened or knowing who had been thru to buy what, I can't be 100% certain... but when I got mine, there was only 1 or each of the courtroom fight sets... but 2 or 3 each of the others.
  14. Found these out in Norhtern California too... looks like they got a case + a refresher on the best of... series.
  15. I went to my TRU to look and found that all the figure aisles had been re-arranged. I found a few pegs for Marvel minimates and 1 for Secret wars, but the got relocated to the aisle with the Indy figures like Bioshock & BSG - no longer with the rest of the Super heroes
  16. Maybe this is a crossover opportunity... Haunted Vagina??? Who ya gonna call?
  17. Thank God Sam I thought I was losing it there I guess I don't see that choosing age approriate material for my children as "having a problem with it". I don't think the subject matter in an R-Rated movie is age approriate for younger kids - as I don't want my kids too scared to sleep becasue they think Zombies will eat them, or because I think that they lack the filter mechanisms to not use the F-word in second grade. However that doesn't necessarily imply that I have a problem with them.
  18. Interesting point... This would seem to be a impulse buy, gift item - not an "order 3-4 months in advance item) - which kind of aces out the LCS channel. Father's day isn't a TRU holiday (unlike other general merchandise retailers). Maybe this is a step toward getting back to Walmart or Target, who put out a holiday display of Father's Day related items. I'll be interested to see how these hit the market - they don't really fit into anything existing... at least not well. I've got so many Kirk & Spock variants, when there are so many additional characters I'd still like to see. However, I think we all know that to keep momentum with this license... that Kirk and Spock have to figure prominently in order to draw new consumers, or those who don't appreciate the significance of more obscure characters... I don't see that changing anytime soon
  19. I'd be surprised if it was the 3rd or the 10th... DST's relaease dates are more voodoo & witchcraft than science.
  20. If you" have no problem with them at all" then why "keep them away from " your son ? Seriously?! I think this license is cool also (and "don't have a problem with it") - but I also know that it isn't kid appropriate. On a different note... Why is it that many of those who don't like this license insist that DST not make these mates and are already gathering pitchforks & torches & picket signs... Do you really live in such an intolerant, egocentric world that if it's not something you personnally like or that offends your sensibilities, then you have irrevocable veto rights for everyone else. How about this - don't buy them (and/or cover your eyes when you see them online or in the store)? This license may not be in the best taste, but it certainly not illegal, nor does it skirt anything illegal (unlike most adult anime with all the jailbait-looking caricatures). Overly sexual topics and adult-only themes are nothing new to this industry.
  21. Exciting Minimates news from Toyfair this year... lots of things that we didn't see coming... of particular note: 1. Universal monsters - though I hat to wait a year between waves, these are are fantastic likenesses... I just hope they don't peter off before finishing all the sets... There isn't 1 set that isn't amazing. Maybe some Zombies next? 2. Tarot - Haunted or not - I like the comic and I like these... put my name on the list (Though if you've seen the comic it begs the question: Why no Powergirl-esque power chest?) 3. Elite Heroes Police & Fire - they're cool... will probably get these. I like the heli and the APC, but I'm not quite sold on those w/o more pics 4. Pirates - I got two words: Hell Yeah! - That being said, I like the fact that it's a good mix of pirates and navy officers for some variation. I really like the mini ship. 5. Marvel wave 36 - Lots of cool charaters - though I hate to say it, but stiltman is not a favorite (I'm just not crazy about the exagerated appendages a la Mr. Fantastic & Stiltman etc). Otherwise, very light on future Marvel selection... I wonder if this is fallout from the Disney buyout 6. Spiderman Friends & Foes - Nice looking set, 7. M.A.X - The robot suite aren't too exciting for me - jet pack is pretty OK, and I was interested to see double seating in the jet that is coming out. 8. GB 4 - nice to get a non-possessed Dana - not too excited about the rest - i hope they round out the wave with something that's got a little more flash. 9.BTTF Delorean- nothing new there, though I still want to see which mate is packaged witht the tru version 10. IM2 & T2 - No surprises, all very nice looking 11.The Galileo is cool - nice proportions AND it seats a family of 4 - that is a must buy. The BD Spock makes sense given the Galileo Seven episode. Perhaps newer versions (like ST5), DS9 or TNG will follow if this does well 12. No re-show of Beverly Hills Cop or Godfather... looks like both of those lines are "sleeping with the fishes". 13. Fathers Day sets are cool... the fisherman hat and vest would allow a cool custom M*A*S*H Henry Blake Figure. On a broader DST note - noticed little shown for 7" ST, SG or BSG figures. I wonder if those are losing momentum. I was also hoping to see the TWOK communicator that was previewed at SDCC. The large ships look amazing, though the cost of my minimate addiction prevents me from collecting those.
  22. I see these in the LCS and specialty chains only - First, becasue it's linked to a property that is distributes through comic stores and secondd, because this is too risque for a TRU type distribution. TRU seems OK w/ Resident Evil & Bioshock toys and whatnot - probably because these are familiar videogame licenses - and gore & violence are already accepted as a result of the video games. . Tarot is far too sexual to be appropriate for TRU or other mainstream retailers. Considering all the adult anime content and collectibles (you only need to check out the selections at BBTS or Entertainment Earth) - Tarot is nothing new to this distribution channel
  23. Tarot is an interesting comic if you're look for something "porn-y". Most of the stories some how involve a close battle where Tarot ends up losing most (if not all) of her clothes. It's like almost every porno you could imagine, where there is some forced or implausible reason to strip or have sex or whatever. That being said, "Porn-y" isn't necessarily a a bad thing, especially if you like pics of naked comic-book women. To be completely accurate, Tarot should have removeable armor. Just let me know where I sign up for these mates.
  24. Has anyone seen anything on the exclusive figure that is coming with the TRU Delorean. I haven't seen these show up on TRU's site for pre-order either
  25. The economy is slow everywhere, and lay-offs aren't always a sign of financial trouble. Many companies, including the one I work for, are using this economy as a catalyst to start sharpening the pencil and reducing costs anywhere and everywhere (including staff reductions) to boost lower-than-average profits. To layoff staff, in order to eke out a few extra bucks, is a crappy, heartless thing to do - however, it is how most businesses operate when times are lean. Though I don't know the specific circumstances of DSTMatt, nor do I pretend to know how DST is structured, there are numerous factors that could have brought about the decision to lay him off such as job/position/task redundancy as just one possible example. Considering the aggressive lineup of Minimates that we've already seen (Minimate vehicles, Iron Man II, Marvel, More Ghostbusters), as well as product from other lines (Ships, Action Figures, Trek Tech, Replicas), it doesn't seem that DST is holding back or hurting too bad. Further, the partnership with TRU has given DST much better, mainstream exposure than they have had in the last few years. I'm sorry to see DSTMatt go...
