  1. I'm drowning in mates! I wish two series wouldn't come out the same day! oh well I can't complain much, these are awesome! The only thing I will say is that if they were going to go the extra mile to give us "over size feet" for Hulk and Abom they might as well have also given us slightly bigger hands, iot just looks kinda strange that they heave these big feet, tall bodies, and normal sized hands.
  2. Wait do those "tall feet" come with Hulk/Abom or is that a custom? If they come with, isn't that sort of a violation of the size rule for Marvel? Not that I'm complaining AT ALL. Personally I've been begging for a Smart Hulk and Abom for a long time... and while this isn't quite the Smart Hulk I was hoping for (wanted the black tank top, glasses and HUGE gun version) this still makes me cry with joy. NO NEGATIVE COMMENTS ON THESE WAVES BY ME!
  3. It is kind of weird to have a Hulk/Abom pairing one wave a part, but didn't that happen with Cyclops/Emma? In any case, I'd kind of like to see what the movie version of Leader looks like, since I wouldn't mind getting a new version of him (not that I don't like my high-head from way back!). And I've been wanting a Doc Samson period, classic 616 or movie would be good (not that we know what he'll look like in the movie). However, slightly different topic, I've been hearing that in the movie his name won't be "Leonard Samson" but "Samson [insert different last name]" ... I don't know why, this seems like an arbitrary change *sigh*
  4. You know I think I was the only person to say anything negative, LOL so it's all directed at me here and I didn't even say anything negative. I agree with everyone who likes this wave, I think it's friggin awesome! That Iron Man stuf is really cool. But there's nothing wrong with pointing out what I think the short comings in these waves are *shrugs*
  5. Wouldn't Mandarin been better? With such a Iron Man centric couple of sets and him being in the recent story arc, and mini series, and apparently in the movie (though we haven't seen anything about it). I'm just sayin.. Mandarin or Spymaster *shrugs*
  6. Lovin' these for the most part, but I need to weigh in with some of my complaints. First off, I don't know why everyone loves the Cloak... I don't see what's so great about it. The paint job on the face and the cloak seems kind of muddy, and the head-part of the cloak doesn't even fit all the way down (which is one of my complaints about the task master mate). Also, I know I'm in the minority here, but "civilian mates" don't turn me on... I would prefered something other than a minimate version of Gweneth Paltrow and Terrance Howard. And Spymaster is a waste of a slot. Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of doing fan favorite or obscure Marvel characters... but Spymaster isn't someone anyone really cares about. There are other obscure characters that people would be more prone to geek out over. And I don't even know who Gamora is. Here's to hoping that one day I get that Man-Thing Werewolf by Night 2-pack.
  7. So could anyone explain to me how Taskmasters Bow and Arrow work?
  8. I don't get why so many people dislike iTunes. It's probably the best and most well thought out music delivery platform that benefits everyone from artist to record label to consumer. Awesome product/service.
  9. Currently at 1679 songs with 4.5 Days
  10. And ironically enough, these may be the first non-super hero minimates I pick up, lol.
  11. To be fair, the shape of the head wouldn't really allow a standard sized mask to fold up and down. I just wish there was a second set of holes that would allow the mask to be clipped on in a different position. I understand, but they were still marketing it with images that heavily implied thta you could. Just dissapointed. They should have just solicited it with the face plate on. Dirty trick.
  12. The Black Panther is actually perfectly how I would want that figure to be. No complaints. Iron Man was also mostly cool, but the face mask kind of dissapointed me. I was really expecting for it to be the kind that flips up and down while staying attached to the head piece.. but no, it doesn't. Oh well.
  13. I still don't have one I checked all the Fyes around... nada.
  14. This gives me hope for a Lockjaw minimate in an Inhumans pack possibly. ok, ok, I'll take my butt back to the marvel forums...
  15. Wow. Horror stories like that remind me why I'm thankful to live in Los Angeles where there are 10+ LCSs I can think of off the top of my head that are within driving distance.
  16. What a let down. I went to the nearby Fye and they didn't have 'em
  17. Wow. Considering that they haven't even announced what the next waves will be, I'm assuming we won't be getting 21 and 22 the following month....
  18. huh, dunno why I never noticed that. me dodo.
  19. No, the last wave with the AVengersw characters was only 4 boxes.
  20. I still don't like the packaging, but who cares... I don't keep it anymore, the cardboard is in the garbage as soon as I open it. So wait, 19 and 20 are coming out simultaneously like 17 and 18 did? is this the new norm? Yikes, it's gonna be expensive...
  21. Another example of this.. there's no release events! Yesterday the Spider-Man 3 mates came out... no update to AA's website, no nothing. There should have been a big deal made about it. Oh well... I just want this to be a bigger community and I want the community and AA to have a closer connection, kinda how over at the www.MarvelMasterworks.com tyhe editors in charge of the masterworks line are always on the forums, and taking polls from people, doing interviews for the site, etc...
  22. I dunno about the hasbro toys, but in the movie itself black suited spider-man didn't look ay bulkier than regular. In fact, he actually looks slimmer and more agile, at least as I remember the movie.
  23. Wait, are they out NOW? There's a Fye in the mall near by I can run to right now if they are.
  24. Spider-Man 3 Minimates Since I’m not going to bother figuring out which figures fall into which “series,” I’m reviewing it all as one big set. Red Spider-Man: I was just a little disappointed with the Spider-Man figure because I was expecting the webbing to actually be silver, kind of shiny. Instead it’s a flat gray. Otherwise, it’s just another Spider-Man… not a bad one, but we certainly have enough “regular” spideys. New Green Goblin: Now this is really the gem of this set. One of my complaints has been that recently the Marvel Mates don’t have many accessories. Well this one is packed full, possibly beating out Assault Punisher in sheer number of parts! Just on the body alone he has a shoulder/chest harness, wrist braces/blade, a belt, a sheath on one leg, and over sized boots. In ADITION to that, he has two different size blades, a helmet, and the glider. If I was to have one complaint, it’s that the peg for the glider doesn’t really fit too snugly on his foot and it keeps falling off. Also, the glider only seems to be at like 2/3 scale with the figure… seems like it should have a longer wing span, but I guess they don’t want to violate any “vehicle” stuff in the contract, so they had to keep it a midget glider. Power House Black Spider-Man: I don’t like the fact that ‘Red’ Spider-Man and ‘Black’ Spider-Man are different scales. There’s no reason for Black Spidey to have a power chest… if anything, black is a very slimming color and actually makes him look more agile, not bulky. However, AA was nice enough to provide us with enough non-power house black Spidey chest pieces to swap them out. Now, onto the figures themselves… Flint Marko/Sandman: The civilian Flint Marko is exactly what you’d expect… nothing spectacular, but it looks the part. The attachable arms with sand fists is a nice touch, but I just wish they were a bit different than the ones that come with the full on Sandman. Speaking of which… Sandman: WOW! Along with Green Goblin, this is the other gem of this set. Just the sheer idea behind it is cool, and really pushes what you think a MiniMate should be. Considering Marvel can’t do 2.5” figures, this really shows how much you can play around with the structure of a mate even at 2” size. It’s just a really inspired figure that stands out among the rest. Maskless Black Spider-Man: A cool idea, we haven’t had a full unmasked Spider-Man since… well, when WAS the last time actually? I don’t think there was on. I absolutely love the way this figure looks with the unmasked face and hair piece. It’s nothing spectacular, but it is just a really nice looking figure. However, the half mask piece that slips on over the head I’m less than crazy about. First off, it just seems pointless to have it be a whole head piece. Why not just have the mask part be the molded fitting and have the mouth portion just be the actual mouth from the figure head? Right now, when you slip it on, it just makes his head look a lot bigger compared to his body than it should, and it looks slightly ninja turtle like. Considering I have two (due to having to buy a variant) I may try snipping the ‘flesh’ part off of the head piece and see if that works better. I have a feeling it will. Mary Jane: It is a successful figure in that it is very bland and uninteresting looking, just like the actress it is based upon. Sorry, I just absolutely loathe the Kristen Dunst Mary Jane, and this figure reminds me why. Even the Minimate has a depressing look on its face! And wearing all black! My hatred for this character and its subsequent Minimate is ironic to me since 616 Mary Jane is possibly my favorite female comic book character. Gwen Stacy: I absolutely LOVED Bryce Dallas Howard’s Gwen in the movie (I actually think, considering she’s naturally a red head, she would have played a WAY better Mary Jane) and this figure really does represent that adorable, innocent, daddy’s little girl next door appearance. The coloring is nice, but not too pop-art like, it looks like it was based on a real person while still being stylized. And, unlike the Mary Jane mate, the skirt on this figure goes straight down and looks right, while Mary Jane’s pouches out in a kind of awkward way. Peter Parker: I’m not generally a fan of ‘civilian’ mates, but I kind of like this one. I think it boils down to the jacket accessory, which is nice, and the Black Spidey chest piece underneath. I just think that looks cool, and it’s another piece we can use to swap out that ridiculous power house chest piece on the main black Spidey. Eddie Brock: Again, a civilian minimate. Looks fine, nothing spectacular, the jacket is a nice touch… if you want to make a Civie mate look good to me, give it a jacket, LOL. The Camera is a nice accessory to, I just wish it also came with the variant version that way I could have two cameras… one for Peter and one for Eddie. Peter should have one too, or did AA forget that he’s a photographer…? Transformation Eddie Brock: Interesting… that’s all I can say. It’s a civie trying to be a super mate… I don’t really see the point, but whatever. Transformation Peter Parker: See above. Venom: Considering we just got a powerhouse Venom in the torment set, this just seems like re-treading, and way too soon. What I would have preferred is something a bit more kin to the Sandman minimate where Venom is a huge, hulking black goo-monster thing with tendrils coming out everywhere. Instead we just get a more or less repeat of a figure that came out not too long ago. Well, that’s my review… over all I like the set, though I think it could have been consolidated into a single series rather than two... just take out the civie mates and the “transformations” and we could have saved some money and some plastic. Oh well, I really view this set as “one step closer to classic marvel mates”… which I can’t wait for!!!
  25. Should we break off into a reviews/critiques thread or just do that here? I gots me opinions!
