  1. What are some of the more common or recurrent reactions (especially first time reactions) to minimates (and other block figures such as palisades palz :P) do you hear from people? I'll start: calling the minimate a LEGO. this is of course fair enough, as it's a much more well known brehren. Often in my IRL life though, when i notice someone has a figure (often a LEGO minifig) at their place or w/e of a certain chsracter i endeavour to bring a minimate of the same character by when possible...so many folks with exxxtensive lego collection just call the 'mates "lego (character)" even when they're playing around with it alongside an (as WE know) several times smaller and less articulated danish minifig another iconic is of course "whoops i broke it" when first discovering the interchangability of the parts Have any 'normies' responses to minimate you've shown them/they've seen stood out to you?
  2. brilliant touches for scale, especially the laptop incredible stuff as ever and VERY groovy maxi Manhattan! not sure if I've seen him before; you've always got such a good eye for super characters that makes sense at super scales
  3. Victor Vector though 😛 i'm not much of a gamer myself but i picture your pitches with a similar vibe to the mass effect minimate box
  4. Oh. My. Giddy. Aunt! the master mold indeed, so sorry to have missed this cylonchaney but wooohoooo fantastic work on hiller and bishop! lovely colours, and of course, everything else you've been showing off since (and before, looove the breaking bad minimate so much!) also very informative to hear about the actual process that's gone into the chaneymate, and to those sentinels! such scale, such numbers. i recently received my first ever six-armed spidey so i was double flabbergasted to see that beast of a sential! i love how you can fit a 'mate into his hand too, *chef's kiss* gosh you're an inspiration ps good luck on your own printing journey @Captain Paco i too am hoping to get a tiny bit of access to a 3d printer later this year 🙂
  5. Thank you so very much for your suggestions and insight gentlemen! Glad to hear it's not all that uncommon Shanester (and as as ever you've left me chuckling BHM!) and I'm very grateful to have not one but TWO methods to have a stab at. I've left the 'mates in question tucked away (and quarantined!) a little far away at present but rest assured once I'm back near them I'll see if i can get 'em down to the lab and see if i can get them looking (or at least feeling) fab and of course I'll try and report back how i went for posterity! cheers again gang
  6. no, no, not that exceelent 'black oil' accessory included with the newborn alien in x-files Palz wave 2 (with included feet holes!) although i suppose history will tell. i'm posting here in case this is a problem more readily apparent in lines beyond minimates (and for somewhere to put it of course, if there's somewhere better let me know) What's the deal with black plastic sometimes going gooey/sticky/oily? I have been meaning to ask for a while, and i recently purchased a sun-damaged spider-man 3 2-pack where both figures (but especially black spiderman) were afflicted by this, and i wonder what causes it and what one might do to treat/avoid it? I initially thought it was to do with either the sun or this particular plastic, but now owning that i own some stealth cylons i see they too have the sort of sticky plastic; which i feel i was able to somewhat rectify with a rub across some rough fabric (denim to be precise). Could this just be the Queensland summer heat over the years, even?
  7. happy new year one and all! I hope 2024 brings happiness galore gang, such a pleasure to be a part of things here!
  8. thank you so much for the kind words everyone! One hell of an epiphany there, fantastic to hear you managed to make it down under @buttheadsmate , and that it treated ya well what a place to land though: I studied in (& have lived over) Brisbane! reading of your travels has me all sorts of excited to return there next! the lego mick's gas can is from COBI while mini mick's hails (hail ivan) from the hard goodbye set from sin city @elhonez another custom premiering soon...
  9. the mystery continues 😮 i concur on be@rbricks looking a bit abysmal and yes indeed, the 'trick' and the 'fake' do indeed have the clocks and gauges and rivets and meters: i fancied their look as a little like retro robots, not realising their promo nature til i was quids in 😛 does anyone have much experience with minority report kubricks? i've been trying to assemble one of the 'spiders' from that line but i can't seem to get the balls into the joints
  10. so much bang for the 'blank' minimate buck, so smooth 7 sleek! i too would have perhaps preferred a tampo'd hoodie but what we've got's rather nice
  11. thank you very much! i'll follow you
  12. cheers for the details there Zach, always giving the good run down i'm glad to hear it's a somewhat snug fit in there
  13. that's so cool, i love that! also when a toys backing forms a little backdrop/diorama scene; this is sooo very classy though
  14. BHM! i was just typing a reply to you (in the kubrick thread of all places!) and here you are splendid. I had a feeling you'd remember The Cubes, though I had no idea kubrick cases were a thing but as ever you're expanding my horizons to no end. you make a good point on the black base trim on these; though perhaps, circumference permitting, mounting a 'mate on one of their clear circular stands might go some way to alleviating how...footless and fancy free these might be, now that you mention it. Indeed, they might not take a standard minimate stand. I was hoping to be able to bodge one in, even if just for the foothold keeping everything from rattling...imagine my joy hearing of an inbuilt foot stud, let alone stackability! It sounds like medicom not only cracked the blind box format but also MiP (or near enough) and space efficient storage of the result! my character building doctor who microfigures stackable blind boxes aren't quite the groundbreaking innovation i once thought they were 😛 sideways stacking what will they thunk of next...
